Exactly. So why just reel of OMeara and Martin as though the Giants have nothing?

I'd take Treloar and Whitfield over those two. What of it?

Okay and I'll take Michael Hurley over Travis Cloke:rolleyes:

I picked Suns, but not with any certainty. If you break it down I reckon they just come out on top:
Backline - Suns - Suns with Thompson and May in the key posts, Harbrow and McKenzie playing smaller and using the ball so well coming out of defence, whereas the Giants have Mohr and Davis, however Davis cant stay on the park, whilst picking up Shaw and Hunt to add some experience down there. Suns also have gun recruit Koldashnniiinniny (or whatever his name is) who had 50 touches last week and is hugely rated.

Midfield - For mine, the Suns have the best midfield easily, though the Giants isn't that shabby, but still well behind the Suns. Ablett is the best midfielder of the two sides comfortably, with Ward on the next level. The Suns have Prestia, Swallow, O'Meara, Bennell, Rischitelli, with Martin obviously in the wings. Giants have Coniglio, Whitfield, Smith, Tomlinson who are very good, but a bit behind the Suns

Ruck - Mumford is the best Ruckman of the two sides, and Giles is probably next best. Zac Smith is a quality ruckman, but more on potential at this stage, whilst Nicholls shows a lot of promise. Boyd can also play in the ruck when he becomes established, whilst the suns have Doxon who can swing through there too

Giants have the better forward line, with 1 genuine forward star already in Cameron, with Patton seemingly a star and Boyd in the wings who could be anything. Suns have players that still have 'promising' next to their name, with Day, Lynch and Dixon, with none of those guys really grabbing a game just yet like the Giants forwards have. Matera adds some class in the Suns forward line, whilst the Giants seem to lack a quality small forward. Their talls though make it better overall

Still think that the Suns are just ahead, purely as their Midfield is stronger, defence looks better overall, and have potential in their forward line. But geez, both bloody good lists

No metion to Hampton or Williams in the giants backline.

I laughed :thumbsu:

What has Martin shown to say that he is worth picking right now?

I know he dominated the NEAFL but so did Patty Karnezis for what its worth.

Plenty of early/top picks have been busts. Right now Martin isn't worth a thing.

OMeara is a gun but so is Treloar. I'd go so far as to say he is the most under rated kid on either teams list.

So even if you have OMeara > Treloar there is no way to argue anything other than Whitfield >>> Martin based on what they have actually done.

The Suns can hype Martin all they like but until he produces he isn't worth any more than Kelly, ORourke, Hoskin-Elliot etc.

Which (if any) GWS mids would you have in front of Martin? I just wonder how highly you rate those 3 handballs of his...

Unless you rate OMeara more than Treloar and Whitfield combined?

Martin hasn't had a chance to show what his capable of but he is more than likely going to dominate the AFL. And O'Meara is far better than Treloar and Whitfield put together they'd be better than O'Meara but i'd rather one gun midfielder and one likely star than two mids who are both average.

People think he will dominate the AFL. People hope he will dominate the AFL.

People also said that about kids like Tambling, Muston, Rusling, Gumbleton, Dalziell and plenty of others who failed for one reason or another.

You're correct in saying that Martin hasn't had a chance to show what he can do. So until he does he is nothing but hype.

I'm not trying to trash the Suns here. They have a super list and an amazing midfield.

I just think that the Giants midfield is just as good (minus Gaz obviously) and terribly under rated, but that they are better off for KPP and overall depth.

Round 4 2011. We beat training cones with only 26 touches form Gazza and a goal. Does that count?

EFA and no it doesn't :p

You definitely have some talent in the squad from the games I've watched but the concern is how they'll go about it without the great man working his magic, its the big unknown at this stage. In saying that Gaz's fitness will see him go another 5+ years at this stage, will be a part of a big premiership push before he retires for sure.

Martin it's too early to tell. Lots of talk but let's see him in action before everyone places him in the top echelon of kids.

Treloar and Whitfield...VERY good players. Throw in a few more as well from GWS.

O'Meara on the other hand will be special. He just stands out to me as being the best of the best. He is something else.

Both teams have excellent depth across the park.

GWS tall forwards - likely to be special.
GCS tall forwards - very good.

GWS small forwards - good / very good.
GCS small forwards - good / very good. Ablett to end his career as a forward so put him down for a lazy 40 odd goals.

GWS mids - very good / fantastic.
GCS mids - very good / fantastic. O'Meara = special as is Ablett.

GWS backs - good.
GCS backs - very good.

Which list would I prefer? Give me either one and I would be a happy man.

One thing I noticed on the weekend is Ablett (despite 41 touches and 2 goals, I know sounds stupid) was far less influential then most of our wins.

He didnt have to bring the likes of Swallow, O'Meara, Prestia, Rischitelli and Shaw into the game. If anything they brought him in and Ablett played more on the outside.

I know that was only one game, and against an ordinary team at that. But for the educated SUNS fans eye (someone who watches us week in week out) the signs were promising.

For the OMeara v Treloar argument have a look at their first seasons per footywire.

Same stats all the way down the board bar 2 that stick out - O'Meara ave 2 more tackles and 2 more clearances per game.

This can be put down to a combination of a few things:

1. He is a pure on baller as opposed to Treloar spending time on the flanks.

2. He was coming into an established team while Treloar was with the patchwork Giants.

3. He had spent a year training with AFL level stars like Ablett and Harbrow while Treloar came straight from the u18s.

Again, not saying O'Meara isn't special. Just highlighting how massively under rated a gun kid like Treloar is.

People are saying the same thing about Patton and Boyd

Both have awesome lists. Another poster mentioned that you can always get midfielders. By definition you can't always get GAJ, but it is still a fair enough comment.

The thing that concerns me about the GWS list is that power forwards of the calibre they have will get big offers, and it will unbalance their list when that time comes. They look like they will develop well ahead of the normal timeframe that KPP's develop too. If they keep them together I think we are going to see some fantastic football from them.

GWS has the best list, bigger, stronger, faster, Sheedy made them look really bad though. Now we are going to see what they can do with an intelligent coach.

I'm not sure what your talking about.

They were kids. Dont see what you mean. They were always going to be better after a 3rd preseason. Especially after gaining some important players in mummy shaw etc

another words sheedy had no idea what he was doing, the silly old bugger

I was talking about Gold Coast's speed compared to GWS's. I think Gold Coast is faster.
