I've copied the whole article here.
So Carlisle has done a Hawkins & sought advice from the greatest ever player (no need to guess who).

This story links in with the "Maj contact Carey" story a while back.

WTF isnt Carey back at Arden St? Are people still too proud after 14 years (& 14 years in the wilderness). if so , we aint going anywhere real fast, IMO.

"
"Jake Carlisle’s determination to master his new role in the Essendon side led him to approach one of the game’s greatest centre half-forwards for advice on how to better play the position.
Carlisle contacted Wayne Carey last month through his manager Anthony McConville, and the pair spent time together in a cafe before Essendon’s round-10 game against Sydney.
Carlisle brought his laptop along so that Carey could talk him through some vision, and was filled with questions about how he could speed up his improvement after switching from defence this year.
Among other things, Carey spoke to the 22-year-old about not over-committing to leads and finding himself out of position, understanding his teammates’ habits and abilities when kicking the ball forward and doing the things that other forwards used to annoy him with when he played as a key defender last year.

They spoke about how he should not feel disheartened if he finds himself in three-on-one contests, and take pleasure in simply bringing the ball to ground if not in a position to mark.
''We had a good chat, just a basic discussion about how he’s going and the things we think he’s doing well and not so well,'' Carey said.
''We had a look at some vision and he was very inquisitive. He asked quite a few questions and they were all about trying to get better, not once did he mention wanting to go and play down back.
''I said to him: 'When you had your really good year at centre half-back, what did the forwards do to you that you didn’t like?'
''He said they were constantly on the move, they ran to dangerous spots and they were always in the play, they didn’t lead out and just stop.
''My advice was, 'Put that thought pattern into the way you play, think about what you didn’t like being done to you as a defender, and make sure you do that to whoever’s playing on you'.''
Carlisle kicked two goals in the game after his catch-up with Carey, albeit after starting as the substitute and coming into the game after half-time.
He had kicked just four goals in the first eight games of the season, as he and Joey Daniher were thrust into the two key forward roles despite Daniher's limited AFL experience and Carlisle's breakthrough season in defence last year.
Carlisle struck Carey as a confident young player, who in tandem with Michael Hurley and with continued development, could become a genuinely dangerous player at both ends of the ground.
He noted that neither Carlisle nor Daniher has had it easy at times this season, given Essendon’s often indirect ball movement into the forward line.
''He’ll develop irrespective of where he mostly ends up playing, but to have a player who can genuinely swing between centre half-back and centre half-forward will be invaluable to their team,'' Carey said.
''We know Hurley can play forward and back as well, so all of a sudden they’ve got a couple of players who can swing between both positions and give the team a bit of flexibility.
''It will be interesting to see whether they persist this year with playing him forward, but in the long term I think he’s going to be a really valuable player for them if he keeps working to improve those few things.''

  1. The * kid took a laptop to a cafe and showed Carey some highlights.
  2. Carey told him to do what the other forwards do when he played in defence and run his opponent around.
  3. * kid goes out and kicks a whopping bag of two goals.

Nekminnit Carey is King Mentor..

err are you saying the current forwards coaches are doing any better then? Another bloke with his head in the sand, & we havent won a flag since when?? 99 is my recollection.

Carey is a mercenary in coaching terms.

he consults.

he doesn't coach.

A mentor is someone who is as invested in the mentee's progression as the mentee is at getting better.

Carey is not that person. I get the feeling that it comes to the $$$

I think you're over-stating it - care fact is not less than zero, it's exactly zero. :thumbsu:
Not personally. This is when I go far beyond 'not caring' that it becomes impossible to be persuaded to care no matter what better news can come from the situation.

Couple of lines from the original that seem to have been chopped:

"Jake really took my advice on board, in fact he may miss a week after a latte glass broke in his hand."

"I also noticed he walked around the cafe offering a free critique of mammaries before dispensing advice on whether resizing would benefit the holder."

"But it was after I asked him if he supported Essendon and he answered 'Well, I support them but I don’t barrack for them, if that makes sense' that I knew the mentoring was a great success".

Carey says things =/= our forward coaches do not say them too.

Carey says things to player =/= player becoming star.

The specifics that Carey could bring in relation to body work, mindset etc are just that. Specifics. What worked for him may not work for other tall key position players because they all have their strengths and weaknesses, whereas the Duck had basically all strengths and only one weakness. I'd be fairly confident that our forward coaches have a shit load more to offer to a young forward in todays game that what Carey could offer. Tid bits of info, sure. Anything more, probably about as useful as **** on bulls.

For what it's worth, **** on a bull are underrated. They make the image of a bull in a chinashop much more interesting.
And depending on the age of the bull, all the more damaging.

Always thought they were tit bits when mentioned in the same breath as Carey?

Great player shit bloke, how he has no real passion for the Club he spent near 20 years at gives a real insight into the man. IMO

I almost feel he blames NMFC for him rootin' a team mates wife. Maybe a stretch, but yeah, we're a payin'.

And his critique of Daw left me as disappointed as Carey was when he finished reading his first ever book and suddenly realised it wasn't about him.

Although in fairness the title is somewhat misleading.

Our club probably brings back too many bad memories, he went from everything to nothing, and to this day people still remember him for 1 thing mainly...
Carey it a flog, but brought us years of joy through his footballing abilities. it ends there!!! He always says inappropriate and very harsh things about people. It's like he has an issue with the brain to mouth filter.... anyway, i wish him all the best, just stay away from North since you don't "Barrack" for us.

Some of you blokes either werent around in the 90's or you have very short memories. for almost 10 years Carey was the heart & soul of NM, the AFL'S first million dollar man & pin up boy, oh & as well he could play a bit too. Sure there were other good players but he was the man. You are in denial if you think otherwise.

Destroyed so many opposition teams , not once but time & time again. Busted packs, kicked monster goals & could take a grab too. Made ordinary teammates look good. Made good opponents look ordinary.

Sure he left disgraced & I was dissapointed as the next bloke. Carey didnt do anything that hasnt been done before & wont be done again. Unfortunately he got caught, silly Wayne was thinking with his di**, but what guy hasnt at some time. Sad but thats the way it is.

Anyway I dont care, I remember Carey for all the good things he did, not the bad. IMO while Carey remains estranged from the club we can never move on, & we need all the help we can get to overcome this inconsistency that we have.
