Aside from these guys, how highly do you rate Waterman?

Very. He's floated between 10-35 on my board all year. Like his ability at ground level and ability to create space for himself to move the ball forwards instead of laterally. Footskills exceptional for an inside mid. Physically dominant already. I think he put the cue in the rack this year to save you fellas a few rounds. Heard rumours he set his price too high for Claremont to play him up, for example.

I think Garlett at 11 is a real stretch. I don't see him having the ceiling you want players at that range to have. I'd love to be wrong though as I took a real liking to him the first time I saw him early in the year - he's a bit of a personal favourite. 11 just seems way too high for mine though, 15-25 far more acceptable.

Not deliberately starting an arguement here, but i'd toss Freo up as an example.

They have one of the better midfields in the AFL and yet they are hilariously lacking in KP stock, both forward and back.

Because they have continuously drafted mids with their recent picks, they are totally screwed going forward and have been forced to try selling their team to power forwards who go on the market, like Cloke, Clarke and Franklin.

IMO balance is what's best. We've been lacking any power and skill in our vanilla midfield for too long so 'technically' my preference would be to address that first with some X factor. However, i wouldn't cry if Wright slid and we picked him up. Mids have less value then a gun tall.

Additions over the past 3 years:

Yeo, Wellingham, Cripps, Newman and Karpany are all quick and do have good skills, we just haven't seen much collective and consistent results as they didn't get on the park much in 2014.

Adding Ellis is another ex pick 3 midfielder who is flexible enough to play anywhere. Shuey definitely has pace and impact around the ball.

On top of this we have those not so flashy mids who do the grunt work in Priddis, Gaff, Masten, S Selwood, Rosa, Sheppard, Sheed, Colledge, Waterman

That's 16 mids on the list before the draft not counting others.

It's a hard one isn't it.. reminds me of that mini bump we had a few years ago thanks to Swift n co. We go from lock and loading Pickett to possibly a sliding KPP or a "nice" player in Ahern. Winning is great but those few meaningless ones towards the end when the other teams have put the que in the rack..

Yeah, I am. It's a good point, really. Part of me wanted to take Wright or Goddard there but I just wasn't convinced enough. Goddard is an option though, can never have enough elite KPDs and as a forward he's a bit different from the rest of your bunch.

An elite creative KPD would be my preference over a "nice" player like an Ahern. There is an argument that we could do with some depth there. McKenzie is an elite stopper but lacks creativity, Brown is perpetually injured and Schofield has been going backwards last few years. Would also help to release McGovern forward on occasion.

Yeah I can see that. The issue is that those around just aren't that. Goddard is similar to MacKenzie in a good few ways - he gets a bit of the ball but he's hardly creative. Marchbank has a good intercept game but again, isn't one to create and Lever who can will be gone by then. It leaves Durdin who at 197cm is certainly a KPD option and he's also a very gifted contested grab and fantastic field kick but quite simply doesn't have the runs on the board and at times is a headless chook. He's very speculative IMO, something I'd be staying away from.

There's a bloke next year called Jacob Weitering who I think would fit the bill perfectly.

In the scenario, however likely, that Cockatoo is gone, I'd hope we choose from Duggan, Weller and Durdin (in that order). I'd prefer to not go the Ahern route.

Well not apparantly, he was. Moved to the Gold Coast when his brother was picked up. IMO there will be 1 or 2 better players at that pick. Definitely not confirmed to be going to the GC

I've got no doubt that he could... I'm certain if he was fit and in form he would get games at the eagles in year 1 due to the fragility of our list. How many and to what standard is the unknown. Even Carter got games in year 1...

The three questions we have to remember are: who is more likely to be a star? who is less of a risk? who will the club get the most out of?

On those three criteria it becomes a bloody tough question, but I'm gonna say wright.

The good news is, from my perspective, the more I play around with it the less likely it seems that Cockatoo is unavailable at 11. I notice neither of us have Langford going top 11 despite the recent hype. I reckon 12 to Richmond unless the Menadue rumour is true.

Strongly strongly disagree with this, Mackenzie goes forward kicks occasional goals.
Has very very good rebounding numbers this year.
His footskill's have improved out of site, his left foot is amazing for a right footer.
He didn't just win the club best and fairest for being a stopper.
His creative run was excellent all year.
Your opinion from my point of view is very outdated.
