Analysis Stadium deals - what, how, when - why we need a new one and the SA footy paradigm shift happening

Didn't Weatherill say it had to be sorted by Christmas or he would intervene? They are cutting it fine. And if Olsen is returning from OS, maybe we should give him a police escort when he returns.
No he wanted a report from the SMA by Christmas.

If the news is as good as expected, I'm ok with waiting. I want Olsen to front a media conference about the new deal. He'll be burning inside while being forced to say all the politically correct things.

That would be a most satisfying Christmas present. Suppose he would still manage to slip in a comment about PAFCs drain on the SANFL and football landscape.

As the Adelaide Oval financial model review enters its 160th day, the focus shifts on Premier Jay Weatherill to help deliver Christmas cheer for the state’s AFL clubs.
What started as a two-month review of the revenue split between the SANFL, Crows and Power at Adelaide Oval was supposed to be resolved by Christmas.
“I will not hesitate in protecting the success of the Adelaide Oval - I will not have the Oval’s reputation tarnished by an unseemly dispute,” said Premier Weatherill last month.
The current Stadium deal has already been labelled ‘fundamentally wrong” by former Department of Infrastructure boss Rod Hook. The 2014 arrival of AFL in the city saw the SANFL take $14.9 million, Crows $12.86m and Port $9.75m.

Glad I didn't read the forums yesterday.

I heard today is the day.:)

Nah I have no idea but olsen is so far in the past he is flying home in a dc3 with many stop overs, so it won't be before Xmas.

I hope Ash wasnt trusting in Gil, he's too busy looking for a 10c reduction in the cost of tomato sauce at Docklands, damn difficult that eh Gil.

Nah I have no idea but olsen is so far in the past he is driving home in a DeLorean at 88mph, so it won't be before Xmas 2014.

ftfy ;)

It would be interesting to know how much road closure and traffic management costs the Clubs. Not sure why the AFL and the Clubs ever agreed to that one. Clearly these are costs that the Clubs did not have to bear at AAMI.

We know the Club subsides the Footy Express to the tune of $300,000 and if road closures are a big amount it adds up to a sizeable chunk out of profits. Personally I would be happy if the Club told the State Government to shove the Footy Express but I can see if they did that it would hand the Crows a marketing advantage.

I try to buy Dick Smiths tomato sauce but it isn't the cheapest.
Coles home brand is much cheaper but not much good

That road closures cost was a joke. The clubs shouldn't have worn that. The AFL should have worn that one as it is their game.

Given the amount of business AFL brings to the CBD the ACC should stand the cost but I know that will not happen. The Clubs are paying the Council for the privilege of bringing business into the CBD.

Day 160 - 'What started as a two-month review..'

Absolutely nothing new in that article, but does get the issue back in the mainstream spotlight after a couple of weeks of nothingness post John Olsen's blame Port for everything media blitz. Can't believe I'm saying this but I wish Rucci was here.
Me too

If not the ACC then the SA government. Conservatively creating a couple of hundred (non-AO oval) jobs and bringing in $25million into the city, $300k is a drop in the ocean compared to that. That's before you consider how many tens (if not hundreds) of millions the oval is going to be worth over the next 50 years by stopping so many young people wanting to ditch SA, just as they reach tax payer age, as it was a hick state with no reason to go to the city and it's showpiece in the biggest competition in the country was a 1970's concrete bowl in the middle of nowhere.

Still no announcement?

You guys expecting Jay Weatherhill to take any prompt decisive action are kidding yourself.

Have a look at his handling of pedophiles and rapists in the department of Education when he was minister and now all the Families SA cases. There was a fobbing off, buck passing, didnt want to know, type exercise when he was minister and then when the allegations came out after he was appointed premier and then the Families SA cases, it was all to hard.

What did he say? You could spend all of the budget monies on Family SA and still not prevent it from happening. Typical defensive lawyer cover my arse type attitude. Why didn't he get on the front foot and say we have to protect our most vulnerable, that is our number 1 job as a government. We have to allocate more resources and restructure the whole department and reporting of these matters and not try and cover them up. I am appointing X to be in charge of all cases involving kids across all departments and he/she has to report every case to me - no exceptions, no excuses. If we have to go and borrow $200m-$300m and our credit rating drops from AAA to AA or A. then so be it, that's the price we have to be prepared to pay to protect our most vulnerable.

But no, there is no vision, no determination, no desire to get his hands a little bit dirty. Weatherill is a classic sausage eater not sausage maker. The process of going and collecting the cow and then having to kill it etc to make the sausage is all too "yucky-poos" for Jay. There will be the same drift from the government with this stadium deal. Say some nice sounding words, but wont act decisively to fix it.
