A few lines...

Buckley told AFL.com.au that players who are only strong in one dimension will find themselves struggling to get a game.

"We won't be playing players that only play one side of the ball and that includes purely defensive forwards. If they can't hit the scoreboard, they are not in our mix," Buckley said.

"We want to be a great transition side."

A few of you will really enjoy that line in particular, worth a read.

We'll see if that holds true. Jarryd Blair's charmed run with minimal impact on the offensive side of the ball in 2014 would indicate that this was previously not a focus of ours which is very frustrating.

We preached two way football in 2014, but so often the offence was neglected whilst the best teams are making an art form out of taking the game on with skill (Hawthorn), pace (Port) or both (Sydney).

Who else though? (if we give the benefit of the doubt to the coaching staff for not picking BenKen & KMart because of fitness/whatever).

What about purely defensive defenders that are turnover machines?

Think we'll probably be going for pace this year, Port were fantastic on the fast rebound, but they were 18th in slow counter attacking mostly due to their very average disposal (ranked third last I believe and first for clangers)

we didn't have the personnel to transition the ball fast enough last season so we had to resort to slow transition and that's where our foot skills were exposed.

Put Reid, Seedsman, Sinclair and Shazza when he gets back down there and add Freeman and Varcoe (maybe Crisp) to the squad and we'll transition the ball a fair bit faster.
Hopefully then we'll give our forwards more 1v1 opportunities, at least that's what i hope Bucks means by becoming a much better transition squad.

What Happened on CH7 about collingwood Mkcaptain

I didn't really listen to the finer details but essentially it was was a system to cool your core temperature down.

I think it was this. http://www.avacore.com/ Don't ask me how or why or if it even works :P

Apparently Germany used it during the World Cup

They create a vacuum in the glove which brings blood vessels closer to the palm of the hand and then put cold water through. This cools the blood going back to the heart and lowers core temperature.

Apparently the German World Cup soccer squad had one per player during the tournament, and a few other teams in various sports are using them too with decent results.

Wasn't just 14 Sco he had a similar 13 too.

Are you from an alternate dimension or what? That article is due to be released next monday @ 8:01am.......

Good stuff from Bucks though. Should make some people on here rethink a few things.

Thanks.

I found that very interesting. I love reading about medical and in particular sport science advances. Very cool. "Better than steroids" Looks like Essendon made a really bad choice now, huh!

I actually think Langdon will be our best transition player -

He may be good, but Sidey will remain our best.
I don't think Sidey will play that deep. I'm talking last line transition. He'll be a link up man no doubt, but I expect Langdon to lead intercept marks from opposition and rebounds. Sidey will be more inside 50 and kick the winning goal in this seasons GF

My heart hopes it doesn't come down to a 'winning goal' if we somehow get there :S. Maybe a kicking us 10 goals in the lead... or final goal of the game..

Anyone that was fit you just can't keep carrying players that aren't performing on both sides of the ball!

If Blair was Kennedy's age he would have been dropped by the first bye and we ended up carrying him for much of the season.

I know we're now 6 months removed from our season drawing out, but jeez it will take a while to get over how poor our team selection was in 2014.

That would be my hope as well because it will hide our skill deficiencies better by foot compared to slow build ups.

I can only hope that a run and gun approach with systematic ball movement is used from kick ins. In effect just take the game on when nothing presents itself forward of the ball.

To true!

The most annoying aspect is that his numbers comparitively with guys like McGlynn and Puopolo are good enough, but his complete lack of hurt factor negates it because defenders can just sag off him knowing they'll get it back soon enough...

Goldy has been named in the leadership team. Hopefully this means he will be playing in defence.

There's an interesting story behind the bolded...

Goldsack's another culprit though. Defensive pressure is great, but it's useless without scoreboard pressure which he unfortunately just can't provide consistently enough.

Macaffer in that role would be so much more valuable because he can provide a lead up option as a foil to the talls (think the old Tarrant 100m lead style), he can hit the scoreboard and you know he can do the business defensively. I think he's pigeon holed as a tagger now though unfortunately.

Well if Ben Reid is going to play in the backline I think he'll slightly pip Langdon in that.
