History has shown that when a big player is out of contract everyone has a punt on whether he's staying or going. I'm not worrying until I hear it from Dangerfield, The Club or Dangerfield's manager.

To me, Those 3 parties have thus farsaid more positive things about staying than anything else.

Great post!
Was it 2012 when all the Port people were worried Boak was leaving, he even had a Geelong group come over & visit him, the media had him gone too. Boak waited until the end of his contract, but he signed.
Hopefully Paddy stays with us & until I hear otherwise from a credible source (Danger, his manager or AFC) that's what I think will happen.

Not sure how many people here are on the Crows facebook pages, but Darren's son actually clarified this, reckons what happened is his dad was asked who he thought would have been named captain and said Sloane, but is happy Tex got it. Article has embellished on what was said shock horror lol.

And it was asked by Tom Rehn who works for Channel 9. Clearly trying to stir shit.

I don't think the impact of this can be understated. Imagine being a 19 year old kid having to front up in a foreign team each week and play with a group of guys who probably look at you as an outsider. Thankfully this is no longer a problem.

Imagine then having to wonder whether your car still has wheels when you leave training. Seriously though, I'm being serious. Nah, just jokes folks, although it's at least partially true. And when I say 'partially', you know I mean completely.

Depends how it would go down. If we were to match and play hardball and get fair compensation such as Geelong's first rounder and GHS it wouldn't be so bad. If we were to let him walk for a compo pick in the teens it would set us back a long way. That's on field. Off field, if we were to play hard ball and get a fair trade we come out with our pride and reputation intact. If we were to let him walk for nix we set back all the good work of the new admin and come across as a hopeless feeder club that can't stop the bleeding.

Reckon when we're talking about losing Danger, mid teens is not much different to nothing. Either way it's a disaster and I'd rather not mitigate it. Let's see what happens when the PSD or ND is the next best form of acquisition. Obviously, if we finish last, I'd take 1 in a heartbeat and we walk away if he's accepting a $1.5m/year deal for 5 years.

I wonder how many other Geelong-born players not playing for Geelong there are. I wonder how they feel seeing everyone and their dog falling over themselves to bring this one particular player home...

If Danger goes anywhere it will be Melbourne IMO.

Wont be Geelong.

And if he is going, the deal is already done.

The city or team?

I'm starting to hate the sight of Dangerfield.

If you want to stay, come out and sign a ****ing contract. If you want to leave, you should have said last October and we should have trasded you. This holding off is just giving me the shits.

The city or team?
Team.

I have a hunch that a journo got whiff of a deal during Trade Week. That is where the idea of us getting their first round picks in a trade was invented from. When in fact it is possible it was that Danger was in talks with the Dees to leave under Free Agency at the end of this year.

As much as Danger is a Geelong boy, I just can't see him going there as they are on the slide and Scott won his flag by default inheriting the list from Bomber. Melbourne are coached by Roos with Goodwin by his side, a person Danger does respect quite highly. I also think the Dees will be banging on the door of the 8 this year.

Danger is contracted for all of the 2015 season, there is no rush, cool ya jets big fella.

Why does he have to do this. He is not the only player on his last year of a contract in the league. Why not suggest that another player must make a decision and make it public?

The situation sucks, but get used to it. It will become more rampant in the coming years.

Yeah, to be fair to Gunston, if I had to go out to Elizabeth a couple of times a week, I'd want out of Adelaide too.

Now that the guys outside of our senior side are playing each week with the blokes they train and live with, hopefully that gives them a greater sense of belonging.

Many could handle it. But an affluent lad from inner melbourne? It's not too much of a surprise. I often wonder how much we offered him compared to Hawthorn. If Mackay (apologies AFC979810 ) is worth $400k, then Gunner was worth that on average over 4 years in a heartbeat. No need to hang around the northern suburbs on that coin, but I expect that we didn't remunerate on potential back then. I'd almost suggest that we rolled with a standard 2nd contract system back then. $180k mate, love it, like we do, because we've got mediocre role players who have been around for a while that are earning your coin.

His loss, I suppose.

Yeah, lets just remove all emotion out of the game.

That way, no one will give a **** about the game, club or players.

Ease up turbo.

Players come and go, but the club we love will always be here. That is the great thing about Aussie Rules. A champion team needs more than one player. It is not like Basketball where LeBron James leaves Miami and they go back to being irrelevant.

If we want to be a champion team, we need to build a team that is not reliant on one player.

Geelong is like Port Adelaide meets Elizabeth with a bit of Semaphore thrown in. That might help explain it.

Had a Geelong lad live with us in our casino days. Good kid, although hard to work out amongst the mist. Will say one thing, this stoner's second serve had so much spin it nearly cleared my head. Very uncomfortable playing tennis against a stoner when you're always returning serve around your shoulder. Anyway, good kid, actually same age as me.

I am relaxed mate are you? He doesn't have to sign until the end of the season. You are the one having a panic attack about him not signing and you "hate the sight of him". He hasn't left, he may not leave, stop jumping at shadows.
