Random thoughts not worthy of a thread (Part I)

Impossible for some of you I fear, but, like him or otherwise, spare a thought for a very decent man who has tonight suffered the ignominy of losing his job before the eyes of the nation. He, and his family, will be hurting.

As a Liberal, I haven't been a supporter of Turnbull, but now that he's been elevated to the Prime Ministership, I sincerely hope he can find a way to unite us all, for a better Australia, and a prosperous future.

You say this, and I hear it occasionally from that side of the aisle. I spent most of my formative years as a small-c conservative but they've lost me. Frankly, as a neutral Abbott looks anything like a 'very decent man'. He's a career politician who from Uni student playing-at-politics clubs onward has had no more ambition than simply to be in the top job. Just like Shorten, just like so many others. He never wanted to govern, he just wanted to rule.

It's endemic on both sides of politics to be opportunists but the Right, both here and overseas, have raised "the ends justify the means" to an art form. For someone claiming to extol Christian virtues, "the ends justify the means" is the most un-Christian of positions. He was only ever in the seminary for the career advancement opportunities the Catholic Church offered. It was Howard's willingness to play Children Overboard for votes that did it for me with the Libs, but Abbott's willingness to toy with the worlds most vulnerable people 'pour encourager les autres', to continue to allow anybody, let alone children, to be kept in the inhuman conditions of Nauru and Manus, to downplay climate change and renewables to appease Gina, Twiggy, and a few marginal seats, to chuck out good policy for nothing but the sake of making the other mob look bad, are not the actions of 'a very decent man'.

He's a boil on the arse of humanity and may he long be remembered as the worst Prime Minister of the modern era.

Of course he's hurting, it always hurts when the karma bus hits.

If Abbott was a decent man he would have behaved differently during his 3 year dummy spit.

Right now Australia is undergoing a domestic violence epidemic. 2 women were killed by their "partners" on the Gold Coast last week. In public.

During Gillard's government constant references to her that verged on violence were laughed at. Liberal party figures (Steve Ciobo, Grahame Morris) and shock jocks openly called for her to be killed. They reckon it was simply a metaphor or colourful language, but it sets a tone.

If Abbott was a decent man he would have called this out for the bullshit it was. He would have been strong enough to say that while Gillard's govt was crap his side had to maintain standards if they were gonna take on the serious task of running this country for all Australians. And those standards included not resorting to promoting violence by men against women.

It wouldn't have ended domestic violence but it would have shown decent leadership. As it was the leadership Abbott preferred was that violence against women is ok in public discourse. If he'd stood against the disgusting treatment of Gillard (but not necessarily the valid criticism, of which there was plenty,) and said wtte of "we don't have to go down this path to call out this government, they have plenty of flaws but we don't have to sink that low." Well the truth is if he had those personal qualities Windsor and Oakeshott would have supported him.

Those two have certainly come out of this looking like they are more than capable judges of character.

Hopefully we can have some decent politics that focuses on the future and how we deal with it now. Funny as it is i think we need a break from this shit:

Any PM who asked the yanks to ask us to become involved in bombing Syria, to then say that we, Australia had to carefully consider the legalities of such an action before committing to such an action, is seriously s****** in every sense of the word. Got caught out trying to engineer a reason for running a khaki election.

Just watched the North bit on Footy Classified and Hutchy got absolutely torn to shred by Gary and to a lesser extent Caro over his attitude toward North.

That's not the surprising bit, this from Lloyd which I never thought I'd hear:
"I reckon there's only one team ahead of them and thats West Coast. They could beat Hawks tomorrow or Freo if needed"

This morning at about 6.30am I rode my bike past about eight Kangaroos in a paddock of green stock crop.

They were about 30 metres from the road.

There were two big males at the back up on back legs and tails taking swings at each other.

If ever there was an omen I thought...

Anyways your story reminds me of the time I was hurtling down Mt Macedon at 80 plus clicks when I noticed a Big Red bouncing towards me at a 45 degree angle. We were dead set on a collision course. I touched the breaks which slowed me up to 70 clicks but it wasn't looking good. The Big Red finally altered course and bounded along side me roughly a metre or so away for some seconds until it ventured back towards the trees. Must have realised I was a staunch North Man. Thank **** for that. :stern look

All the farmers in our area hate the kangaroos as they chomp down all the grazing fodder.

I think our place has become a bit of a sanctuary for them in more ways than one!!

FWIW I absolutely love my Sony Z3 Compact. I find a lot of phones too big - this bad boy is spot on for me. And it performs very well (make sure you get a cover and screen protector though).
