Actually yes. Like I said, Varcoe was playing like an old nag put to pasture. We needed a foil for Hawkins.

We drafted Cockatoo in lieu who has more upside and more potential... not to mention it's allowed Motlop to fill the void left by Varcoe and play more minutes in the midfield, and its fair to say that scenario worked out well.

More like a rabbit scrape.

Following on from Hocking's previous comments about bringing in players to help even out the age group...

Joel was on AFL 360, discussing the premierships/his age at that time, and about how he's enjoying and understanding it's now his turn to grab that 19 year old player (that he was) and drag him along on a journey that he was able to get, etc. (He used Lang and Gregson as examples, so little Cory not going anywhere)

Robbo asked him if he likes dragging along 25 year olds, namely Patty.
Joel said he's obviously a class player and "we'll look to bring in some players at the end of the year that can add to us, we'll look to get sort of A-graders and the best talent that is out there."

I know it's live TV and clubs might "look" to do many things, but from Cook to Hocking to Selwood, there is a strong sense that we will be active.

Just curious as to how we're going to pay for it ;)

We are going to give aide the farm
And then use third round picks for seriously good players:rolleyes:

I decided to analyse our list a bit in light of all the trade talk. In terms of age we are coming well into the premiership window the next few years and have little issues with the list being too old after the recent retirements, though we will still lose a lot of experience when the over 30s retire.

I'm still in two minds whether it is a risk trading draft picks at this stage rather than recruiting more young talent while we have good first round picks. It has been rare in the last decade for us to get a top 10 pick.

Mahlepi.....the frequency and tone of your posting lately seems to have taken a big step back from your earlier belief that we would be very active and introduce some quality players to the club, including a 'mystery mid' that would get everyone excited on its announcement.

Have plans, strategies, and negotiations changed so much that you no longer stand so firmly by your earlier beliefs?

So we have 7 off the senior list currently, Jansen and Walker are looking likely trade outs so thats 9, and Simpson and Kersten are still uncontracted.

I am fairly confident that at this stage we will get all of Danger, Scooter, Henderson and a ruckman (probably Smith). So that would leave us with 5 spots to fill or 6 if we move Simpson on (which is likely).
After trades it is probably likely that our firsts and seconds will be gone so we will have #46, #64 #82 and #96 but the last two of those picks will move up as most teams wont pick beyond 60 so it might be say #46 #64 #70 and #71. We would still be hoping to get some 3rd or 4th rounders back from Adel/Carl/GC in the trades I think, unless we are going to try and trade any of next year's picks for picks this year in swaps with other clubs.

The other two options I suppose are bringing DFA's in from other clubs or we we could run at 38 + 6 normal rookies (Luxford and Lucey are outside the normal rookie list anyway) instead of 40 + 4 normal rookies which means 2 less senior spots we fill and saves on cap space, with 2 nominated rookies.

Basically, the Swans are interested in Leuenberger, Smith and Sinclair/Lycett. To me, that suggests that we have the best chance at getting Smith.

This is what the article says:

The Swans' interest in the Eagles ruckmen complicates their pursuit of Leuenberger.

The Swans seem to be locked in a two-club race for the Lions ruckman with Essendon, while fellow suitor Fremantle's interest is believed to have waned.

If the Swans did end up snaring Sinclair or Lycett in a trade for Jetta they would likely bow out of the race for Leuenberger.

Interesting the Swans are so keen, do you think that means they don't have any faith in Nankervis in a post-Pyke world? any chance they would move him on?

I have been on forced leave from too many threads
It might explain my posting frequency

All of the hawks mids are elite kickers of the ball, baring Mitchell but he never kicks it anyway. I'm not sure any in our list fit that criteria. Duncan probably closest but has had his games where he is a big turn merchant as well.

I would rather dp's over players. Fa is that very reason, he wants to go to the club of his choice....no concessions bk to them.

Yeah Duncan's our one midfielder that I expect to hit targets every time. Need more than one though.
