People massively overrating Talia in here IMO. The only reason he's valuable to us is because he's a Tall defender, something we don't have a lot of. He's not a good Tall defender, hence why he had no currency.

Tall Defenders take years to develop and Talia was starting to show some good signs.
My money is on Talia becoming a very solid defender for Sydney. A very good pick-up for them.

Agree - that's how I think it will play out Fronk. This late trading of picks was no accident or impetuous decision by JMac - there is a plan for sure.

A couple of tips for you blokes re Talia:

1. I probably would give him your weekly game plan only in exchange for his mobile phone, and his throw down phone as well.

2. Make sure Buddy doesn't

Whilst I agree with you there's more circumstances at play here them him merely being a good player or not.

He will be a fantastic deal for you blokes with the way you can develop players. He's one I always hoped made it but was a scapegoat way too much, it's hard to be a young KPD in a young & struggling team like we were.

Talia showed a lot Early in the season but might have got ahead of himself and not listening to Bev then might have got the shits when lost place. Hopefully he's learnt.

I don't mind this train of thought to be honest. I've long been a supporter of giving Grant an additional year and I think this would be a pretty good outcome for us.

That said I know I'm less of a fan of DMac than most on here so that's also a factor in my thinking.

The place won't be the same without our Spindles ... At last Played pretty Good team footy consistently but got the worst yips of his career. Kept trying his shots cuz even he thought he couldn't keep missing.

Meh, watching him get outbodied, outmanoeuvred and outmuscled time and time again in that ressies final V Essendon makes me believe he's not as good a one-on-one defender as he thinks he is, and he sure as shit struggles with the zone, so I'm not crying about his departure, let alone without adding his treachery in.

Oh come on, its not like they did it by accident. Obviously the player Dal rates and would have picked at 11 is just as likely to be there at 21, but now we have an extra pick in the 2nd round. How could that not be obvious?

That's an assumption, there's a possibility that the thinking behind the trade is "you know, player A at 11 is incredibly similar to player B at 20, no biggie to go with B, with the bonus of gaining 21", which is all good unless player A turns into a superstar and player B doesn't, then it's an issue. But that could also work in reverse and player B can end up the superstar, in which case it's genius.

But even if it is as you say (targeting the same player), then it's a bit of a gamble that other recruiting departments won't do their research/cotton on and pinch this player we have in mind between 11 and 19.

There's also a gamble that someone that Dalrymple's rates as top 5, 6 or 7 inexplicably drops to 11 (with no chance of dropping to 20).

We really can't judge this for certain without Dalrymple's actual "hit list" in front of us - exactly who he would take, and where, in ranked order. We'll get rumours of this and that, but without that list to judge this move absolutely objectively, we're all basing opinions on half cocked info. And chances are that we'll never get to see that list.

If the player we hoped to take at 11 falls to 20, and turns into a gun, then it's an excellent trade, but if he gets pinched or we had a chance to get a potential superstar at 11 and didn't purely because of this trade, and pick 21 doesn't compensate, then it's clearly a failed trade, no matter the thinking/strategy behind it.

We'll only really begin to have a reasonable idea on how good this move was by about 2023 when these possible/actual recruited players have a number of years in the system.

Until then absolutely ripping into the footy department for their "stupidity", or on the flipside, giving them pats on the back for "such astute trading", is pretty silly and premature.

I will bump my KPP thread and mash my keyboard so hard il probably need a new laptop if we do go short people again. Completely ruins time in giving young talls time to develop while the rest of the team progresses, meaning there's a chance we fall short again and get exposed come finals time one way or another.

Getting Talia to Syd seems more of a relationship building exercise with Pickering and Syd. Good riddance to Talia whose trade value and playing ability has been massively overrated by a few here.

We've always had a good trading relationship with them imo. Would've liked it if we pushed for their future 3rd instead but meh, 69 was irrelevant this year due to our list size.
