I know only a little bit - agile and quick key defender who can also pinch hit forward. He is however an atrocious kick, more of a third tall type, and, simply put, nothing special as a player. I've only seen bits and pieces though.

He's 200cm which is big enough, giving up a few kgs though.

I'm wondering where we will find a Stefan Martin type from - Martin was horrible at Melbourne and only really started hitting his straps from 26-27 onwards.

Interesting thing with Martin that is often forgotten- he actually played a good season as the first ruckman at Melbourne when he got the opportunity. But then jamar came back from injury and Martin couldn't play second ruck.

I loved McLaren when drafted but as a key position player delisted by a team crying out for KPP talent after one year it doesn't send a great message. Not sure what the story is but I find it hard to believe Sydney would give up so soon if there was anything there. I did like him last year though and was shocked when I heard he was delisted.

Yeah, son of Damian Bourke ex Geelong and Brisbane Bears ruckman was listed at 193 cm and 89 kg at the start of 2015 made his debut in the
last round of 2014 against Geelong which was ironic. Brisbane tried
Marco Paparone back and had Harris Andrews emerge as a player too,
a bit like us with a lot of young KPP's who do take time and struggle
to have strength of consistency. Rookie at best similar stats to Joel
Hamling.

He is the son off former Geelong captain and played for Bears Geelong passed on him despite playing for Vfl in his draft year.As far Sean Mclaern was drafted last year by Swans as 19 years old in Tac Cup predominant played as Ruckman is 197 cm tall the Swans tried to make him defender will the arrival former bulldog player Micheal Talia his fate was sealed.

Just having a think about Brisbane's KPF situation. So they got Walker and they are 99% chance of getting Schache. I also think that whilst their stocks are very young they aren't as bad as what people make them out, particularly with a 2nd or 3rd tall in Walker and a top 2 pick in Schache they now look pretty good. In addition to McStay who was their number one KPF they also have Freeman and Close (both of whom I don't think are your number 1 KPF types) but both of whom could be dangerous as that 2nd tall forward.

In future trade periods if we can't get someone like McStay (who would be perfect for us), I'd certainly be enquiring about the other 2. They can't all fit in there.

I think Gorringe would be worth a punt with a rookie spot given his raw attributes are what we're after in a ruckman

Very surprised to hear we're looking at passing up pick 51 (or the pick in the 40s that it'd likely become) in favour of signing a DFA

You could say pups that Port Adelaide stuffed up in terms that they
started recruiting young talls only to back flip the last two years in
first getting Ryder and this year grabbing Dixon maybe they were
influenced by Hawthorn to a degree. If you don't have a fairly sound
list base cherry picking players does not work.

Those players demanded trades to Port though

At least Port have shown the direction they are taking early. They may have blown 3rd/4th rounders on these guys, but we did too on the likes of Fuller and Young for etc who are no longer at the club also, who also became surplus very quickly with others flying ahead of them.

Why would we trade a first round draft pick (what it would take since he's contracted) on another midfielder when we're struggling to fit them all in as it is? We almost doubled the Crow's (the best clearance team all year) clearances in the final (46-26) and yet we still have to somehow squeeze in Libba, Koby and Clay into that team next year. We've also got Hrovat, another inside mid that can't play any other position being wasted in the VFL. Plus 4 of our last year's draftees are potential future mids as well (Mclean, Dale, Daniel, Hamilton).
All whilst we are genuinely struggling for KPDs and Rucks.

Our VFL midfield is going to be embarrassingly good next year(embarrassing because it's wasted talent/trade currency).

The Talent is not wasted, you need a list 30 plus strong to be any good. There are always injuries, players leave and so on.

Inability to fit everyone in the best 22 is great for spot competition. You have to keep adding quality to the list and you can't be worried that some guys are going to have to play seconds.

But agree what we do need to bolster is not the midfield, but KP depth. But if a good kid pops up, who's a mid, and he's better than the KP prospect, then you take the mid. Keep adding quality.

We do need to look at another young ruck option, so I think you could be right about someone like Gorringe. We do need some depth added to the KP defenders. I will be surprised if we don't pick up a mature aged KP defender for the main or rookie list. Currently very vulnerable in that area. So perhaps that's why we might look at a DFA?

Agree in part. The bolded part I see regularly posted here. On the surface it appears obvious and logical.

My concern is that it is unlikely that many really tall kids are going to be better than a small at draft time simply because of their natural development paths (in short the big kids with growth spurts are more likely to be way more 'unco' than Caleb Daniel).

Issue I see is that if we strictly follow this view then we will never spend a good pick on a tall as there is always going to be smalls whom are 'better'.

And that seems to be the way it's played out for the last 6 years under Dalrymple. For a guy known to gamble at the draft it is a remarkably 'safe' strategy.

The strategy can only work if we can attract (and afford) KP/ruck proven AFL talent - and we haven't done this yet (yeah Boyd is still unproven).

Thats assuming he can find a place in their best 22. Not something he was able to do on a regular basis in a team not exactly overflowing with players of his type. Apparently it had something to do with having "T-Rex" arms or something.
