weitering & collins would build a defence for the next decade

buckley collins plowman
byrne weitering docherty

plus sheehan tuohy smith dvr dick. lots of potential

Id be OK with Collins at 11 if we get a good slider with 8. If anything, his chemistry with Weitering should mean we lock in our two key defenders for the next 10-12 years in one draft.

Ideally for mine we'd go:
1. Weitering
2. Curnow
3. Collins
4. Best available mid
5. SOS

Ill be dissapointed if we take Burton at any pick before 19. Dont wanna waste picks on very risky prospects. We just traded away a South Australian forward with question marks over his knee.

It certainly seems like we're going to go tall at the draft, with Burton at 19 a real possibility if Crows don't strike with their 2nd pick.

Given Burton seems himself as a midfielder going forward, a draft where we'd get 2 x KPDs to lock out KPDs down and draft a possible CHF in Curnow + 3rd tall in SOS would be a win on talent alone.

2016 should see us hit up a midfielder with a top 5 pick and transition Doc into the midfield full time.

Gotta say, on his own - Collins is impressive. Not up to me to say he's best available at our 3rd pick, but the Collins/Weitering partnership is mouth-watering.

I'm not all too keen on Collins. He's not bad but I think we have other needs to address. I don't see him as best available at 11 either.
I am warming to him. Much better tank than Watson. Bottom ager so you would hope there is further improvement (even if he looks 28). Stingrays coach was a massive wrap for him on the radio this morning (a real Micky Turner style pump up) and due to my low sales resistance I would be happy to use 11 on him.

Not convinced on the McKays now. Apparently poor jumpers who have been able to use their height in juniors.

Seeing both Towmey and Anderson tip Curnow to us has got me incredibly excited by it. I had never contemplated him as I thought he would be easily gone. If only Melbourne could pass up on Weideman then we can go 8 Weideman 11 Curnow

1. Weitering
8. Weideman
11. Curnow
19. Burton/Gresham/Hibberd

My not too keen list:

@8
H. McKay
Burton
Balic
Collins
Gresham
Mathieson

@11
Balic
Collins
Bonner
Tucker
Gresham
Mathieson

@19
Go nuts

SOS would be very happy with himself should that be available.................the smile would be too much :)

Not sure why people are so keen on this?
This is exactly what people were thinking when we drafted Watson and McCarthy in 2010.

Just because they played juniors together doesn't really mean they'll translate to an awesome partnership in the AFL and Weitering will form a good partnership with whoever else we have.

Would hate the idea of using 2 top 19 picks on 2 KPD's, simply due to historical evidence that a lot of good KPD's in the AFL can be found at later picks and traded for cheaply, where as the gun forwards and mids are often high draft picks and cost a fortune at the trade table.

Its also not necessarily a good thing to have your FB and CHB the exact same age/draft.

McKay is exactly the type we need to draft.

Casboult is best as your stay at home full forward whereas McKay is really just an amazing athlete for his size. Much like Lynch of the Suns he's a good mover and a great mark. Plus the Crows seem super keen at 9 so best we take the forward without any injury issues/arrests while we can.

Will have to get used to pronouncing it 'McKye' though

I would normally agree. But Weitering, 195cm runs a 15 beep and can actually play football. Collins is not that skinny project type tall, we wont need to wait 3-4 years to work out whether he will be another bust

The guy from the Stingrays on SEN this morning was talking about the big Sudanese ruckman and Weitering. About Weitering he said the usual things ie complete packadge but what suprised me was he said he hasn't done any upper body weight training yet, just legs. If that is the case he has some good upside when you add upper body strength to complement his ability between the ears. Even this pre season should see some gains.

Why is averaging so low in possessions? If he's a "great mover" and a " great mark" should be averaging more than that. Plus his disposal efficiency is very poor, but I've seen nothing of him to have my own thoughts.

I'd say because he's still a bit new on the development scale. You're paying for potential here.

Still, I'd rather Weideman obvz... either way - long as Curnow is in Navy Blue, I'll be happy.

Watson played for Vic Metro, McCarthy for South Australia.

So ummmm, different situation?
