List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

Well his main strength is nullifying opponents one-on-one. Not sure how that translates into being a midfielder.

"As a bottom-age player in the Under-18 competition, Dangerfield played predominantly in defence. It’s almost impossible to envisage now, but the star Crow was actually accused of not being ‘attacking enough’, as he focused on shutting down his opponent."

Likely a reason is the Crows were hoping for one of the ones who went before our picks hence needing pick 13.

#baffled
And yet everyone who went in every pick up to our second pick was pretty much exactly who everyone expected to get picked.

Probably since end of trade period and now only Oliver would have gone from being a chance at 13 to not.

I know, I know! It's a plan to get two first round picks from the Cats in 2022.

I'm astounded that out of all the players left in the draft at that stage, the only one the Crows thought was good enough to pick has come from Geelong. I can't believe it!! This kid better be good, and stick around forever. :p

Why are we picking a replacement for Cheney?

Jesus mate. Think beyond the label for 5 seconds. This kid won't be a defender. He isn't even remotely like Cheney. He will play midfield. He is going to be a classy midfielder.

After watching Doedee's highlights I like the look of him. Him and Lever are prototype HBFer's. We will obviously look to push Smith and Hampton up the field, but Jaensch's days look numbered now unless Laird goes to the midfield really soon. Obviously Cheney, Mackay and VB are on borrowed time too

And pretty much everyone who has picked since then has gone against the script.

In other words, the top 12-14 players were fairly well known. After that, there is/was a whole lot more uncertainty, with some clubs rating players vastly differently to how other clubs rated them.

Remember that AFL clubs look at these kids to see their potential - what they could be in 5 years time, rather than what they are today. The AFC clearly sees a whole lot of upside in Doedee, which is not surprising given the degree of improvement he showed in the TAC Cup this year. Compare that to other players, who they (presumably) didn't see that much upside in.

Most of the Phantom Drafters, at least those who actually watch the U18s, see what the players are now and rate them accordingly. Now vs potential goes a long way towards explaining why so many phantom drafts are badly wrong.

Thankyou for the answer. I was asking because so many people have said that Cheney is on borrowed time. I couldn't understand why as he seems like a decent talent to me.

I was living in Sydney when the Southern Expressway was launched to great fanfare and endless bollocks from the Premier that it was a "world first".

Every single person I spoke to said, "a one-way freeway that takes a lunch break, hey?"

The only response I could make: "classic Adelaide."
Now it's a two way expressway that takes you half way to where you want to go :thumbsu:

I understand the confusion. No-one guessed it.

And there are a few questions that have been asked that are fair - but without knowing who we were hoping to choose from at 13, how can you bag the decision?

If our list was Francis, Milera, Doedee, Burton - and we thought there was a small chance that Francis would slide to 13 so we hang onto it, then when he didn't we went for choices 2 and 3.

Looking forward to seeing what the kid can do, I'm sure everyone will get behind him once he dons the tri-colour-hoops.

PS - SEN mentioned that Carlton kept a spot for Matt Wright in the PSD
