Derm just missing a chromosomeDerms a peanut, but we do need more young stars
Finlayson should come cheap as untried at afl level, but the downside is he's untried at afl level...........would be able to be a swingman as well though.I highly doubt he'd come cheaply. GWS would want our first rounder for him and at the moment mids are a much higher priority than a third tall.
I was thinking something more along the lines of a Josh Bruce deal where we may nab a bargain due to lack of opportunities.

I think we'll have to get in the ears of the guys we want early as Carlton will take the bulk of them over the next couple of years I reckonNothing seems a certainty for the new brand/franchise clubs no matter how many young stars they have so let's just see how this plays out. A few apples are gonna fall off the tree and we need to be ready with the net.

King was actually reasonable, he's spot on that we need more young stars
Think he's still bitter about his good mate Watters getting the bootWhat is it with Dermot and Paddy? I hope the kid has got someone wise in his ear just telling him to ignore it, otherwise it could seriously dent his confidence. Seriously, DB is a buffoon!

Players have to choose to go to Carlton, I can't see too many choosing to go there in the next couple of years unless they are searching for opportunity.I think we'll have to get in the ears of the guys we want early as Carlton will take the bulk of them over the next couple of years I reckon
Why on earth would they wanna go Carlton?I think we'll have to get in the ears of the guys we want early as Carlton will take the bulk of them over the next couple of years I reckon
Yeah I was only really talking about the gws guys who can't get a game - they're the only plastic with stacks of talent not getting a game.Players have to choose to go to Carlton, I can't see too many choosing to go there in the next couple of years unless they are searching for opportunity.
I think both clubs will encourage it and make it hard to go elsewhere, the silvagni factor, carltons list being unique in having a lot of space to take on young talent in bulk, a fair number of ex-gws guys already on the list. Why on earth would they wanna go Carlton?

We all have confidence in the bloke due to the way he holds himself off the field, the on field performances will click soon enough.
Prestia, Whitfield, Stewart & Hurley.
Trade period looking juicy already.
Realistically can only jag one or two at a stretch.
Whitfield has to be the key target surely???
O'Meara is a 99.9% certainty to end up at Hawthorn at years end. It's all dependent on how the patella tendons hold up through the year. It's as done as Scully to GWS & Danger to Geelong is what I've heard (& that's all the way up here in ShitneyIf O'Meara's knee comes up ok this year and he decides to come to Melbourne I think we are a huge shot at getting him. There's been dialogue there for a long time now. I think people are forgetting what an amazing first couple of years he had. If he gets back to full fitness he's a superstar in the making.
I'd say Prestia will end up at Dees if he goes, there'll still be some love left between them.
Whitfield is an interesting one. And Hurley will/is listening to other clubs in case he decides to test the rules with delisting himself. We are one of them.
)There's no doubt that it must take some toll, but I beleive Paddy has enough gumption to be able to look beyond it. His personality that is shown in the public eye seems to be one of a relaxed, but self confident young bloke with enough intelligence and good humour to work past what others say and think of him. It's got to pretty corrosive on Paddy's self belief if a "legend" has a personal vendetta against him making it as a footballer. If I was 20 and some industry legend went public telling everyone how shit I was it would probably have smashed me. He's really just a flippant prattler with no regard for anyone else but Dermot. He's known for doing absolutely no research for his commentary or media roles and for forming strong opinions which he stubbornly backs. It's a pathetic stance on kids career as such and makes me see him as an enormous campaigner.

The bloke must have known (if not have been told) he was good enough to play the game at an elite level from a early age and those around him would have set him up to be realistic about things like copping flak from previous champions of the game.
It's not as if he is alone on his journey, the club would have been working with him very early on about structures and procedures to handle any pressure whether it be physical or mental.
I'm getting a bit tired of reading about DB on this board. He really isn't worth mentioning because like you say the bloke is a stubborn, unprepared tosser that will do anything to try and remain relevant and obviously has some deep seated issue with the club.
Doesn't seem to have coached anywhere except for his son's junior side which he loves consistently reminding us aboutHe was supposedly over the fence from our zone and has always loved spinning the line that he dodged a bullet. He said he'd never coach us because we didn't have "the cattle" just before we came good and he is just generally dismissive about us. He did play footy when we were a perennial spooner I guess.
