For those of you who get to the VFL. How is Rainbow looking?
Never seem to hear much about him, and not a good sign when someone like Cunningham gets a game in the pre-season before him.
Does anyone think he will be retained on the list?
My gut feel is his days are numbered, but I would really love a young guy who is a beautiful kick to make it.
Heard DVR was very immature when first arrived I guess as we saw in his first year didn't do much.
Has shown those green shoots at stages so far hope he gets a game towards end of season and gets another year no excuses.
Might even be steak knifes but doubt BB would give away a young player that has that word "potential" .

I'm honestly so big on all our 2015 draftees, SOSO shining in the Magoos already just confirms that. I think all of Weities (obviously) Curnow, McKay, Cuningham and Silvagni will be quality players and I have a lot of hope for JGM

I just hope our older draftees, the Rainbows, Smiths, Gowers, Fields etc can show something in the back half of the year.

Also #****tradingformarchbank

Let's find some mids.

Take a seat. Um ... about Fields. I'm so sorry.

Lets say Weitering and/or Plowman goes down to injury. You dont think having Marchbank would be benefical?
Definitely. Is it worth the cost of getting him? Absolutely not.

We should definitely target another tall defender in the draft, just not in the first round (which is at minimum what a trade for Marchbank would cost us)

Our first round this year should be focused on midfielders only.

Yep. And next year as well imo.

We need to get 2 top 10 picks this year and another 2 next year. Spend all 4 on the best mids available. I wouldn't mind throwing our 2018 first rounder in the mix to obtain an additional top 10 pick for 2017 draft.

My view is we need at least one more good young key defender, or a proven experienced one for when Rowe retires (I am hoping Rowe has many years left in him).

I reckon we are OK for good young tall forwards and the focus should now be on bringing in good young midfield prospects, and as above another good young tall defender.

Honestly, I think we need to stockpile 506 good young mids in the next 3 off seasons.

Regarding the List Management, as of Round 9, I would make the following changes:

Delist: Forster, Dick, Tutt, Wood, Gowers, Smith, DvR
Delist however it will be made if necessary: Gorringe, Whiley
Retire: Walker, Jamison
Up to them to call it a day: Armfield
Trade: I just don't see that we have anyone who has any currency that is worth to other more than they are worth to us. Maybe if GC come back for Everitt.

So that could be up to 11 players on the senior list and 2 on the rookie list, so that's another 13 list changes.

a much stronger midfield will itself bolster our defence, and attack for that matter. I can't see how we could get 2 top 10 picks this year though.

All we can do is try. We will have to give up a decent player. Given that this is a deep draft especially with mids, even if we can only obtain an additional second round pick this year, that might not be so bad.

Correct me if I'm wrong but GWS could potentially have 4 first round picks this year, Fremantles (if McCarthy goes there), Geelongs, Collingwoods and their own. Could there be some sort of trade involving one of their first round pick for a bundle of our 2nd or 3rd round picks and maybe a player so they get more points?

Definitely many ways to skin the cat this year

If Carlton can get Marchbank for the right price it's a no brainer, forward, back or wherever. He's highly regarded by GWS though, so he's not going to be a bargain.

It's more likely SOS will find bargains in GWS's lesser lights. Even last year, before all this interest in trading with GWS, Carlton still failed to recruit the only name player they were targeting in Thomlinson. It's going to be much harder to get a good deal this year because there will be more competition for the best players.

Ploughman and to a lesser extent Sumner are the prototypical players to target imo. High draft picks with talent and desire that haven't been able to stay on the park long enough to impress. Of course careful due diligence is essential but it's the cheapest way to pick up high end talent from GWS. I'll back SOS in to spring a few surprises.

Can i ask one thing was it suggesting jack frost or was it the second rounder that coped the bigfooty treatment.
Or a lil of column a and a lil of collumn b?

For me it was the second round pick, if it was the PSD or as a FA or the 5th round of the draft then id have him, but then i laughed more when you said "to complete our backline'

There was a lot of talk that we should have taken Collins with pick 19, to partner Weitering.
Just from what I've seen so far, I'm glad we didn't.
Not that I don't think he might make it at the doggies, his just not the right fit for our back line.
It's ok to be a key defender and be 193cm tall.
But if you are a defender around that height you need to either have very good athleticism and agility like Nick Hayes or have a high football IQ and read the play better then others like Plowman.
JGM makes a lot more sense , has a more rounded game then Collins IMO.

I dont understand how people can say JGM makes more sense? He lasted to the rookie draft and Collins went 19 which was considered a slight slide. To also say your'e glad we didn't take him is a little strange as the person we took instead is struggling at the moment.

To simplify, here is our top 20 players in terms of trade value. It's not really worth discussing anyone else on our list.

  1. Patrick Cripps
  2. Jacob Weitering
  3. Bryce Gibbs
  4. Sam Docherty
  5. Marc Murphy
  6. Levi Casboult
  7. Matthew Kreuzer
  8. Zach Tuouy
  9. Ed Curnow
  10. Lachie Plowman
  11. Blaine Boekhurst
  12. Charlie Curnow
  13. Harry McKay
  14. Dale Thomas
  15. Andreas Everitt
  16. Liam Sumner
  17. Nick Graham
  18. Simon White
  19. Liam Jones
  20. Kristian Jaksch

I feel like there aren't any real obvious trades looking at this list.
Nothing obvious which is true, but as we found out last draft that we can package multiple picks to gain high picks. Third round picks are attainable from quite a few of those players and we can always package them up real nice for trade.

Casboult, Jaksch, Curnow, McKay and Silvagni

Not sure if your'e aware but none of the players you listed are good forwards, some might be but none are. McKay has never played a game, how do you know he will turn in to a great forward? Curnow looked good in the few games he played but we have no idea if he will be a forward or a big bodied mid. SOS has never played a game, Jacksh whilst i hope he comes good has managed what 2-5 games in a side that finished last in 2015 and will most likely finish bottom 5, Casboult marks well but so far that about it.
Seeing as SOS took Cameron, Patton, Tomlinson, Boyd with top picks shows he values KPF a lot. Take the best available in the draft, if it's a forward then so be it.
