How much would you pay Josh Jenkins?

I want Jenkins to stay. I always dislike when players who have been developed well by a club leave when entering their prime.

That said, it's not the greatest loss if he leaves IF we get a good first round pick and can bring someone good in.

I'm not sure how many would play Jenkin's role as well, but although he's huge, he's not the contested beast that Tippett was and I'm not too sure how it would affect our structure.

My main issue would be who would give Sauce a chop out in the ruck? Ruck forwards who are effective are rare. JJ's ruck work has improved considerably over the past few years. It could put a hole in our team which, while small, is unfillable.

The 2nd thing was supposed to happen, but I don't doubt the AFL giving Sydney a pass when they complain they can't be competitive while paying someone who's not playing $1 million +.

I'm not so sure about that. I think the AFL looked long and hard at the Buddy deal and got assurances from Sydney that they would not come back with their hands held out if things went south and Buddy retired with 4 years left on his contract.

If it were me, I'd definitely be taking a pay cut to stay at a club that seems destined for success in the next few seasons rather than a little extra to go play for a shitty bottom 4 side that looks unlikely to go anywhere anytime soon.

What they say now and what they say in 4-6 years time can be completely different things.

Jenkins would be nearing free agency wouldn't he? Wonder if this is coming into play. As a late bloomer you'd think it would be on his mind, it's not like he's started from an 18yo got the RFA option in his mid 20's and then FA in his late 20's.

no where near it. he has to be at a club for 8 consecutive years

Most guest writers for papers have journalists as ghost writers who suggest topics, then edit/re-write what the guest has written. Would not be surprised if Rucci ghost writes Bone's articles.

Seems only fair, given that the internet's collection of forums and comment threads are effectively ghost writing Rucci's articles :P

Also, salary caps go up every year. So the average of what players are paid is constantly rising.

Exactly - this is what makes Bickley's argument that "no Crows player would be paid more than $600k" completely irrelevant.

$600k in the 90s is worth close to a million now.

So we send JJ to Freo for that small mid Neale. OK you celebrally challenged posters answer me this . Who is going to replace JJ? I await your replies.

And while you're at it, can someone also tell me what celebrally means? :p

I strongly believe both will stay at their respective clubs.

However, for discussion sake, what about Ty Vickery or Majak Daw

Both would come much cheaper than the asking price opf Jenkins and both could improve in our set up. Both could kick 30 to 40 goals a season and become valuable players with Tex, Lynch and Betts around them.

My understanding is that is not what would happen if Buddy retires after 6 years. I thought the remaining years are paid out in one go (and are included in the salary cap)

Either that or he is carried on the list for the term of the contract and Sydney play with their list effectively 1 player short.

Of course the remaining years are not paid out in one go!!!

So, you don't want to discuss it.

Duly noted.

Calm down, what's to discuss about those two. Vickery has been a spud his entire time in the league. He is 6'9" and plays soft. Daw can't even make NM's side after a few years in their system. JJ is the #4 goal kicker in the entire league.

And that is all you needed to say the first time.

They were angry Buddy didn't go to GWS. His contract will remain entirely in the cap

Key word...."were"

I bet that changes if the GWS are a top 4 side and in a few years the Swans fall of the perch and drop out of the 8.

That extra contract money will disappear quicker than evidence from the LAPD. They won't want the Swans to be a bottom 3 clubs ever again.
