He looks promising, but how many good games has he played?

Do you really think he is worth playing $1M - double Eddie & much more than Tex?

Not for me at this price, as he is still an unknown.
Its the price you will have to pay. . Plus draft picks to wrench that sort of player. I would do it if jenkins went.

Fortunately you don't run the football department, as paying $1m pa for Lobb is ridiculous & would destroy our cap space & endanger future signings.

Promising young player, but far from warranting being a top-10 AFL player.

There is something to be said for not completing ignoring the market - though I don't believe some of the media speculation - and also for considering his value within our system

Where we need to be careful in terms of value within our system is that we are 11 games into our fast, sling shot, switch and charge, build from the back game style.

We don't know how robust it is, it could be worked out in the second half of the season when we have return fixtures against teams that couldn't work us out the first time

If we need to adapt, there might not be quite so much space to run into and I don't want to pay JJ to run into space that might not exist. Certainly not for 4 years

I'm not convinced he's any better than he was last year, and considering the potential impact of our game plan and the other massive effect of just 2 games on his tally, I'm uncomfortable assuming the paradigm has changed

If he wants to stay, I'm sure we can find a deal that makes sense.

If he wants to max his value elsewhere he should absolutely go and do that.

The sky will not fall

I think he might be better than last year, in that I think he's more likely to get goals from other sources (leads or contested marking) than in years past. No idea if the stats back that really, just my eye test. I don't know that his getting goals through pace is something that's likely to fall away- he's always done it.

I tell you one thing that really would concern me about letting him go though: Walker's still trading on potential to a large degree. He does a lot of things well, and I know this is role influenced, and yet, he's not a take a game apart forward. He does not kick bags. His most in the last few years is 5 or 6. A good haul, but doesn't stack up to the highest tallies of the really elite forwards. What would his career high be? 6? Jenkins is showing a better capacity to do that, and also to do it regularly. You can discount his goals against the Saints sure, but the Bulldogs are performing to a premiership level in defence. It's something I value in particular.

7 against Brisbane last year. I generally agree with the sentiment, it's a bit of a shame Tex has never had that gigantic 8/9/10 goal game we know he's capable of. I'm still not sure he has lived up to the full extents of his potential.

So the guy who was 4th in the coleman last year is trading on potential?

Could you replace jj, with Sam day? What you could trade Jenkins out opposed to trading in Sam day... Could you get Sam day with 2ND 2017 and CEY package?? What would you want in trade for Jenkins?? Sam Day would be cheaper contract ??

Switch around the defenders they each get and see what their goal tallies would be.
I think tex's goal tally would increase only get one and not the best defender and I think Jenkins might decrease copping the best and quite often a second defender.

Not sold on Day but if he came here, I wouldn't be trading the bank to get him either. 2nd round plus a player seems high given the heights he has reached so far

If Tex sat in the goalsquare and/or in an open forward line as much as Jenkins did then he'd kick bags himself. Part of what Tex does is work up the field, drag defenders out of there and help move it forwards so guys like JJ and Betts can get those easy goals.

He is a natural athlete that is handy in the forward and ruck, but is not specifically brilliant at either.

A lot of interesting comments here, but this one here is very well said.

What I would say about Jenkins is what a few other people have said in other parts of the Forums - while he might snare a some goals, most of them are lucky, out-the-back, opportunist goals, where he plays more like a Small Forward than a Key Position Forward. Yes, he's super quick, and (as mentioned above) is "serviceable" in both Ruck and up Forward....but he doesn't demand the ball, and isn't as naturally talented as either Lynch or McGovern. Not at all demanding he be chucked out right now - far from it. But in the bigger scheme of things, we have a smorgasbord of Forward options in Tex, Betts, McGovern, Cameron, Menzel (when he gets the chance), Milera, just to name a few. What we need to seriously focus on is getting one (or more) absolute Gun Mids, not to mention a defensive equivalent of Betts down back. When you look at the teams that beat us, it's normally because of Gun opposition Mids and Small Forwards (think Puopulo)....not our lack of Forward power.

Thankyou. Spot on. :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

When summing up different players, you have to look at the bigger picture....just like mentioned here.

On a side note (nothing to do with Jenkins), the one stat that people often bang on about that has me grinding my teeth is "total possessions". Lots of players rack up huge numbers of stats, but it's what they do with them that counts. Time and again I've seen players get the Pill, then immediately hot-potato-it to a team mate less then 2m away....with 10 opponents on him....only to be tackled to the deck. Yet the idiot responsible for it earns another possession on the stats sheet. And keeps doing it for the entire game.

Oooh the senile old duffer is talking tough :D

I've got to sign either for the next 4 odd years and there is no comparison - Lobb all the way.

Obviously
Thanks quoted

Oh and insulting people , even gently, is a sign they have gotten under your skin ;)

If Jenkins goes how bout that McKernan bloke from the bombers? He has some potential! He He.
He he. The Crows are getting a reputation for turning unknowns into stars, but could they go the Crows-->Bombers-->Crows route and still work their magic?

Back on the Rory Lobb thing, a million may seem excessive, but people have to factor in that it's 2016, a million ain't much in the scheme of things anymore (Dangerfield is playing for "unders" on 800k over at those flogs). Bigger salary cap coming. Lobb is exactly 4 years younger than JJ and already showing amazing potential (that contested mark...). Spare Dangerfield money and the glaringly obvious reason that it is EXTREMELY hard to lure a non-S.A. boy to Adelaide.
