It doesn't have to be sexist. Is it bullying? Is it offensive? If you are saying it about someone you dislike, who you do not have a bantering relationship with, is it mean spirited?

A lot of efforts being made to shut down the discussion and not many of them are very articulate.

The majority of enthusiastic 'push back' to discussion of this issue is centred around it being called sexist and misogynistic. There's been a lot of a posts from people who found the comments quite inappropriate, crass, humourless, downright stupid etc, but don't see where the sexism comes in.

Of course, if you say that, it's because you're ignorant or some such. This is why it's just a shitfight...

As Socrates posited, society is always in a constant battle against chaos (sic freedom). When freedom of speech may contribute to violence against a section of society then it must be moderated until that issue is redressed. Do you really need hate speech to make you laugh?

The push back I am engaged in centres around trivialising it as an issue at all. The whole PC gone mad, it's just a joke, wouldn't be an issue if said about a man, she writes some nasty shit so had to expect to get some back kind of rhetoric.

I've had plenty pushing back at me and I haven't suggested this was a sexism issue and I've not taken anybody to task for suggesting it was a silly thing to say but not sexist.

The connection is that the comments were made in a week where the AFL are promoting gender diversity and backing domestic violence causes. It is bad week timing wise.

The other connection is that domestic violence often starts with disrespect or bullying.

I am not sure anybody has said the comments were akin to domestic violence or as bad as domestic violence or likely to lead to domestic violence. Purely a respect issue.

Good point. The timing is really bad. White ribbon week, the introduction of a female competition, and said during a major fundraising event. It's also totally disrespectful whether it's directed towards a male or female recipient.

Drawing a correlation to domestic violence? Can't really see that at all. It's shocking timing from Eddie, JB, and Frawley. Shocking. They made a gag and really didn't think of what was happening around them. It's also been blown so far out of proportion and completely unrealistic correlations have been drawn between the comments and domestic violence, which is wrong.

Once again, the media has made a mountain of a mole hill and decided to draw in the correlation that Ed is perpetuating violence towards women instead of removing the sex card from it. What if it was Mark Robinson or Damian Barrett? Would we be having this discussion? No.

We can't see that this was said because of the fact both Eddie and Caroline Wilson really don't like one another can we? Because it's not like they don't have a history? No, let's put that aside and play the sex card because we want to line up the boys for making a dumb comment which just so happens to be in white ribbon week.

Everyone on this site thinking that this has a sexist element to it perpetuating domestic violence needs to stop and examine the issue before opening their mouths and buying into the media mud fight.

Unfortunately Caro is an utterly despised figure in the AFL industry. She has relentlessly pursued certain figures, Hird, Brayshaw, ....and would not stop until their lively hoods and families were impacted.

She has called for people to be sacked, punished, sanctioned, fined. I think its time she stepped away and left us alone to enjoy our game without her crap.

The AFL landscape would be much better off without her in the industry.

As for the comments, slightly over the line depending on who you are as an individual. I didn't bat an eyelid when I first heard it but after it being analysed to death it seems a little worse than just a general joke.
