44 disposals tonight and utterly dominant. Got rocked by an elbow last week and recovered to be swans best player. Stood up in '14 gf when they got flogged. Excellent in '12 when they won. Abused the freo midfield last year to no avail.

17 finals and averages over 30 disposals a match. And he doesn't just accumulate at this time of year, he brutalises you.

For mine Kennedy is clearly one of the best finals midfielders of the modern era. Better than some much more heralded legends like voss, Judd, Buckley, Bartel, hodge, black, Vag, McLeod and Hayes.

I don't reckon he has played a bad one. Am I over the top here or does he get glossed over a bit?

I love most of what you have said, but this doesn't sit well with me, I remember 1997 and 1998 and McLeod played some of the best footy I have ever seen, winning the 1997 & 98 norm smith medals.

McLeods 1998 final series

SF vs Sydeney 17 poss, 3 goal
PF vs Dogs - 19 poss, 7 goals
GF vs North - 30 poss

Also McLeod's possessions will carve you up, he was deadly.

He is a legend and gets far less credit than he deserves.

Ablett and Dangerfield are prime examples. Great players, but over-hyped up because they play(ed) for Geelong rather than Sydney.

No way... if you said Selwood then I'd agree. Gaz is the goat, or at least our generation. Danger has won every award in a landslide this year.

I'm really glad this thread exists...if Josh had have kicked straight Saturday night I think we'd be talking about one of the all-time great finals performances - 40+ touches and 3 snags wouldn't have happened very often in September.

It lends credence to my own theory that the toughest players excel in finals. He is a beast. I remember when the consensus was athletic types were the future of the game. The common consensus was wrong.

Hard to dispute this!

Yeah, between him & Liam Picken it just kinda proves that contested beasts are the guys that will drag you over the line.

Also the top shelf aboriginal players, Long, Matera, McLeod and Pickett.

Wow a gangly awkward looking J Roughead and a tattooless overweight Bud.

Bartel, Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Selwood. Everyone looks so young. Shiels looks about 10 years old.
Kennedy himself does not look like the brawny, contested ball machine he is today.

JPK backs this up with excellent endurance too. I was truly surprised at how often, especially late in the game, he was the one working to provide an option or make the next contest. Work rate netted him an extra 10 touches easily to go with the ones he mined at the coal face.

Honestly thought he was pretty decent last night, albeit with a few mistakes mixed in - 24 disposals, 6 clearances, 12 tackles and a goal.

Was arguably BOG against North in the 2014 PF as well - 26 disposals, 6 clearances, 8 tackles, 3 goals.

Was also arguably BOG against Fremantle in the 2014 QF too - 32 disposals, 6 clearances, 6 tackles and a goal.

Was also pretty good against Carlton in the 2013 SF as well - 22 disposals, 3 goals, 2 goal assists.

Hasn't really disgraced himself in most of the other finals he's played, either. I mean, he's still only 23, just coming into his prime now. Has played his fair share of good finals so far I think, and will most likely play a fair few more as he travels through the prime of his career.

Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Good, honest, hardworking footballers will always have a place. Every club has them, and needs them.

Bloods culture died after 2012 with the recruitment of Tippett and Franklin and that was clear for everyone to see during the 2014 Grand Final. The Swans have underachieved with their list from 2013-now.

JPK remains an embodiment of that culture. One of the few left at the club which is now more about "Bondi culture".

Absolute champion of the game.

You should embrace that Sydney are a glamour club now. Making big money from a sponsorship with Qatar Airways while also getting the positive coverage of taking part in the gay pride game.

They have had the strongest list in the league on paper since the arrival of Franklin. "Bloods culture" is dead. It is a new era at the Swans.

He definitely had the frame to build upon it though. Just had a lot of puppy fat at that stage.

Then he became Conan Mk. II without the majestic mullet.
