The mistake you are making is thinking Lyons is a fringe player.

He has been lowballed because we know we need to lose a player and unfortunately we have too many of his type. He wants to stay and lowballing him is our only leverage.

He was a regular 22 player in a side that finished 6th, we aren't talking about a guy who came in and out of the side or is coming from a bottom team.

You need to have a look at his stats for the year, they were quite good and he also knows how to kick a goal.

He would easily finish in the top 10 of your B&F and figure highly.

Add that to a quality player you could pick up at 13 and you guys aren't being lowballed.

Whatever the reason for Lyons' late development, it happened at Adelaide. It's not a factor Carlton have to buy into, just a sales pitch.

Cripps was our most astute/fortunate selection ever. Still a lot of hit and miss in this draft range.

with carlton's recruiting form pick 13 could be a Kane lucas, if the crows are happy to give a guarantee it will be a quality mid, id be happy to take the swap straight up. lets say 10 brownlow votes in first 4 years or crows give us 2020 pick 13 or better.

Crows posters seem pretty happy to part with pick 13 & Lyons - a good indication that SOS is on the money when rejecting that deal. Whatever they give for Gibbs, it's gotta at least hurt a little. Same as losing Gibbs for us.

Lyons is a below average player. That is an objective assessment based on the below average salary AFC have offered him. AFC know him better than you, and me, and declare him to be below average.

its a given that Lyons is a jet...
there is two plausable explanations why the Crows offered him peanuts:
1. they have a cap squeeze going on and couldn't possibly have room for a bloke on 600K
2. they have been low balling him all year to get him primed to trade out, as they have been working on bringing home a gun mid all year...

Compare their stats and he compares very well given he spent less time in the midfield.

On a serious note, I would be happy with either of these 2 deals:

Gibbs + 45 for Couch + 13 + 2017 2nd rounder

Or

Gibbs + 58 for Atkins +13 + 2017 2nd rounder

Going by the rage he has had hurled at him in autopsy threads over the past decade (myself included) it would seem most posters have got what they wanted. Something about careful what you wish for......

You'd want pick #13 and a talented youngster or another 1st rounder out of it.

Having 2 cracks at a 50/50 prospect we should nail one of them. If we don't, that's our fault.

Having a 50/50 prospect and a talented youngster, well if the pick doesn't work, at least we still have a talented kid who could be a decent player.

Getting a 50/50 prospect along with a 24 year old who's struggled to break 50 games means that he hasn't shown much and if we stuff the pick up we've totally lost out on losing Gibbs.
