What he seems to be missing is the AFC would have to have had some kind of understanding with Bryce that they would get a deal done. How would Bryce feel if we walk away at this point? More importantly, how confident will future trade targets be in requesting a trade to Adelaide?

I seem to remember a certain Nick Stevens requesting a trade to Collingwood that didn't eventuate, but that doesn't seem to have stopped them attracting players.

To expand on that Champion Data guys comments;

We shouldn't trade him; he's too good, and it will come back to bite us on the arse if we do.

Get rid of Thommo, trade Douglas, trade Mackay; but Lyons should be a core player for us, for 5-8 years.

The problem is that you can only trade people who have currency. In order to get decent pick etc or quality back in yu have to give up something of value. Lyons has currency as those stats show, so while I agree with you that he is a good AFL player, with quality disposal, he has value on the market. Thommo, Douglas and Mackay have less or about the same currency Henderson has atm. None.

One last thing before I leave your board. Seems from IM's that some of you don't want me here which I respect. Carlton are not going to to take less than Gibbs is worth because they do not need to trade him. Adelaide are not going to pay more than he is worth because they do not need to take him. The deal will get done, I understand early next week, and all of us will be a little bit disappointed but not very disappointed.

Heard Kane Cornes (who I generally like in the media) on trade radio say if Carlton want more than pick 13 Adelaide should just walk away and look at another player.

Who cares how Bryce feels if we walk away. As long as we were honest and upfront in terms of what we were prepared to pay, then it's entirely his issue to deal with if Carlton refuse to accept fair value.

More than welcome from my perspective :)

I don't think Knight can shit his pants and blaze the ball out of bounds in the pocket often enough to cover the McKay role.
Knight's career goal kicking is 8.5. Accuracy is nowhere near low enough to take David "2.12" Mackay's "momentum sapper" role.

I did read or see somewhere, possibly Jake Niall, saying Gibbs may get another year added on to his contract if coming to Adelaide.
I also mentioned the possibility. Turn his 3 year Carlton contract into a 4 year Adelaide one where we absorb his $600,000 and flatten it out a bit. Just a possibility.

Disagree, class on the outside is what you need and Gibbs is that guy. You will not dominate the competition with Gibbs but you will be in the frame. The other thing about Gibbs that you may not know, is that hie is a great role player. Quick to understand the strategy and the context. He will be a very good player for you and will add more than the sum of your list and him.

I like Gibbs and he certainly brings class but he alone wont be enough.
We fell short with Patrick 'dominating the motherf#cking brownlow' Dangerfield. I don't watch a lot of Carlton games but I doubt he influences games on the same level of Danger, Danger was ripping games apart.
We haven't improved enough in other areas to win with only Gibbs - very happy to be wrong though.

He'll get a game as ous side has no link up players. Like it or not but we were worse when he wasn't in the team. Our team has no speed in the middle...ditto. yes we have Cameron and Smith but not playing enough time in the middle. Until we fix this problem Makay stays

22nd in the b&f on votes per game whilst Hampton and Knight were injured plus Milera getting only a few tasters. Then there's Seedsman who was curtailed by injury. Mackay won't be near our 22 next year unless we get injuries again to the same group of players. Like it or not, he'll be in the SANFL most of the year.

I'm happy to have you posting on our board. If some are having a tanty over the respectful way that you have posted, then that is on them.

Should name and shame. Your posts have been fair and reasonable. I am sorry a few brain deads don't appreciate the information you bring.

Exactly. Let's not forget he recently had a chance to come across but chose stay on a long term contract. I think Carlton being unlikely to win a *** in his career has as much to do with his wanted move as anything.

Wow really? Nothing wrong with a difference of opinion, I don't mind others posting in here.
That Carlton mod who came in here was flat out trolling for a while was pushing his welcome.

One of our list people (can't remember who) said at the start of this trade period that we had pick 13 and that this was the same pick we used to grab Lever a couple of years ago. He went on to suggest that we may uncover another player of similar quality in this draft.
I wonder if 13 is on the table.

i assume Gibbs (or his manager) came to us so he must realize that we can't do the deal at any price.

The interstate media are saying we look like amateurs if the deal fails, but we couldn't know Carlton's asking price until negotiations started. Do they also believe that if we overpay with two 1st rounders or 13 + a Lever, Crouch etc for a 28 year old and compromise our future, then we won't look like chumps?
And Bryce's feelings are the last thing we consider. We would have been in his ear 2 years ago when he was a free agent and he broke our heart then. We've simply moved on and are having another crack.

So long as no one wakes up Geoff it's all good mate!

I hope so, certainly should be the case. Where did you hear that?
Someone posted it a few weeks ago... & was a respected poster.

Heard that also heard his reply was well see and is stepping up his training.
A few are putting in some hard yards, Looks Like Pyke gave the hard word to a few of them.
Of course he's going to say "we'll see" because we always pick him

Adelaide would have been in talks with him all year, in his ear, this is not entirely about coming home to be with family. Adelaide have got him to agree to coming home, AFC now need to deliver on that. I'm not questioning whether the deal will get done, just saying we cannot walk away like some have mentioned.

Hawthorn were in Gunston's ear all year before he was traded, they weren't just an innocent beneficiary of the trade.

Thommo has none, but I reckon Mackay and Douglas could get us a 2nd rounder if we worked it right.
