I keep hearing how disappointed people are that "we haven't done more". The only way to make certain that a counterparty will do a deal with you is to ensure it is a great deal for them, i.e. pay overs or accept unders. I can't see this strategy being too popular around these parts.

If you're working on deals but mindful of what you are giving / getting, with the other side doing the same, then the process is harder. Looking for win-wins is where all clubs should be, and that is why we are pointing and laughing at Hawthorn - their "win" is saving salary cap, but at what cost?
I think I'm disappointed because I have no idea of our direction any more and based on delisting the 4 and the snippets from JB, I assumed we would be really on the front foot to get us out of a middle of the road ladder position. We can only do that through draft or trade and I just hope we get some more picks tomorrow.

I agree trades are tough but to be honest I would have been ok to let go of a couple of others at slight unders to really attack this midfielders draft.

I'm hoping we see a couple of picks tomorrow

While I'm not at all pissed off about us missing out on a "big fish", I am pretty disappointed that we will only have one top 25 pick in this years draft. With the likes of (maybe) Petrevski-Seton, Taranto or Scrimshaw available at 11 it would have been great to find a way to get another 1-2 picks in that range and get a combination of Venables, Florent, Simpkin and Cox as well. With our need for pacey, skilled midfielders this is literally the perfect draft for us to attack, yet instead it looks like we'll be going into next year with Hansen, Black, Thompson, Swallow and Tippett all still on the list. I know some of those guys have very little currency, but surely we could have at least traded Hansen/Thompson and Swallow in order to upgrade our early 30's picks to late teens/early 20's?

Also, I think we should have been looking closely at trading next year's picks, for example 2017 1st and pick 33 to Gold Coast for say picks 8 and 24? Gold Coast have so many picks this year and we need to get young talent in ASAP, that kind of pick would likely get us our Wellsy replacement in Petrevski-Seton. Now I'm not saying we haven't made any attempt, but you have to ask what our guys have been doing over the last 10 days if the only deal we get done is a late pick for Ahern (a deal which I am a big fan of btw).

So yeah, I guess with the term "aggressive reset" being thrown around and the potency of this years draft as well as the amount of talented players looking like they will slip through our fingers, i guess I feel pretty disappointed that our guys haven't made more of this opportunity. :(
That is exactly how I feel. Well put.

Players nominating 'preferred clubs' should be stuffed off.
Yeah it's absolutely ridiculous. Players are given way too much power, especially having the ability of being able to reject trades to another club. The AFL should take a page out of the NBA and clubs should be able to trade players to whichever club without consent.

Our issue is we want the best and offer nothing, will won't trade our first draft pick unless like last draft we get one back and don't believe it will impact on who we have the opportunity to select.

We expect the best but offer up dregs. Am sure our 'team' get their trade proposals off BF....

Hansen,Black, McKenzie and Mullet for pick 5 thanks.
Or

McKenzie, Mullett, Hansen and Black for pick 5 thanks.

We don't take risks like other clubs.

Well about time. Happy to have he and Ahern and shut up shop. Maybe a pick upgrade to boot if it suits. 3 picks in the top 40 and the two aforementioned players would be a good result with the potential to be very good!

Nice.

This will be our last trade. Pickett wanted to come to us with Ahern (opposite what was being reported) but we didn't want to offer a 2nd rounder for both Ahern/Pickett.

no mid table 2nd rounder for two early 1st round pick players 2 years ago? Sounds cheap.
