Good result both ways IMO. Although I am skeptical Billie Smedts can break into and take a permanent spot in our 22. (maybe with an injury free season he can show us something like his best form). I'm positive Zac will be able to replace Enright ok, he has a bit to go to get up to his standard. He is so durable, he could play up to 100 games for you. (I was hoping for Guthrie or Cocky, but it was never going to happen). With the exchange of picks, I think it evens up the deal. (Your future 1st for our future 2nd) Win/win for both clubs.. Great that Carlton/Geelong have a good trading/dealing rapport, and I hope it continues into the future. Good luck next year in your quest for another flag.:thumbsu:

I care about the well being of all Geelong supporters and I hold grave concerns for a select few after Caddy is given away in a raffle just as Smedts was and just as our last 2 first round picks were. The Henderson pick has been justified but Tuohy is a grub.

If I knew how to upload FB voice messages you'd get a good laugh out of my Carlton friends satisfaction with this most recent trade. They couldn't wait to see the back of 2E. Gets pushed under the ball and is poor one on one.

I also hold grave concerns over the direction this club is taking but that's just me.
I get there may be issues with the cap but if they trade Caddy for peanuts and then sign Lonergan up again as looks likely then I wont be happy. Some long term views must be taken. Plus the person who gave Horlin Smith a 3 year deal should be looked at

I hope it continues into the future. Good luck next year in your quest for another flag.:thumbsu:
You and every other Carlton supporter. :thumbsu:

have to see what happens one way or another tomorrow we will know for sure. but that many journo's getting it wrong to me sounds unlikely

The only way that we're talking about Caddy and your 2nd rounders is if you or (more likely) GWS are giving us a player we want.

Otherwise it's a crazy trade, and we didn't get to be the club we are by making crazy trades.

Why was ruggles dropped for Bews in the prelim? If the argument works for Lang and ruggles then...
It is absolutely not the same thing. Lang hardly played a game and was dropped each time he did.
Ruggles was on a steep learning curve in his first season of seniors and played most of the season.
I didn't agree when Ruggles was dropped he had a couple of bad moments in the Hawthorn game but
had been excellent before that. I assumed he was carrying an injury.
You have to look at the season overall, comparing a change in one game and saying that covers my
earlier comment is silly.
There is a thing called logic and it should be used in any discussion.

We don't have any more 1st round picks for clubs to take advantage of. ;)

WHE is going to the Pies. His entire family are life long Pies supporters and another family member is on the Pies payroll. He doesn't want to play for anyone else.

Fair enough about WHE.

As for Richards, we have something better, that Danger fella has some currency :p

But seriously, surely could work some pick up grades and such

Time for wells to be shown the door if this trade goes through. There doesn't appear to be any reason for it.

You don't actually know that though PO... we assume they are wrong.

We also aren't privy to the discussions or the plan and the end game long term plan.

Nothing will suprise me anymore regardless of what I think the outcome should be

True but I think the club knows what it's doing.

If I may reply ?

That is pretty simplistic. Lids for Caddy would have been fair swap. Reason being Cats get a need addressed. A elite kick, with elite speed. Richmond gets a inside mid who has a bit of campaigner about him, with a good work rate. Obviously that was rejected in part due to his large contract ( lids). It has just been fortunate GWS who always pay overs due to having so many picks can throw us a late first.

Firstly, no it wouldn't have been which is why we didn't make the trade.

Secondly, Richmond wanted Caddy or a first rounder which we couldn't facilitate, so clearly you regard both as reasonably equal value. The Tigers set the precedent, not us.

Thirdly, our midfield depth issues aren't going to be solved by getting rid of one of our best young mids in exchange for a mid 2nd round pick while we're going for a flag. Caddy helps to fill a need too.

Bingo.

We hold the cards Wells should hold out to near the end of trade time and then go bang 15 and 27 or no deal see if Tuggers panic.

To see some people blindly dismissing the article in The Age on the basis of absolutely nothing annoys me greatly, and speaks to a broader problem I have with the way journalists are perceived on BigFooty.

BigFooty is a microcosm of everything wrong with the general public's over-generalised, uncompromising attitude of contempt towards the media. While it makes sense to be healthily critical towards the media, the level of distrust the public at large harbours towards the industry is so completely disproportionate that it borders on absurdity. In the context of the AFL, all AFL-related news stories, particularly trade stories, seem to be read through the prism of this deluded, spurious narrative that all sports journalists are muckraking scum, and people seem willing to resort to obscene depths of confirmation bias to support this idiotic agenda; any time a journalist breaks a story, the media as an industry never gets any credit for it or any enhancement to its reputation, no matter how often this phenomenon occurs, yet any minor detail that turns out to be mistaken, is held against the media as if it were evidence of systemic incompetence. To me, the self-righteous, elitist, condescending way the majority looks down on the media reflects more about the ignorance of those attempting to critique or deconstruct it than it does about the media itself.

Now, I'm no apologist for the media - obviously, there are major flaws within the industry - but personally speaking I put far more stock in the credibility of stories broken by those whose professions it is to break stories than the blithe, over-confident dismissals of those aforesaid stories by anonymous members of the general public, most of whom are in thrall of an irrational, anti-establishment conviction that all journalists do is make things up, despite the mountain of evidence - namely, the fact that literally every single trade that has gone through thus far was reported on by journalists before it went through - to the contrary. Call me crazy. The media may be imperfect, but most of the information they report is still broadly accurate. To acknowledge that fact is to be in touch with reality, which is certainly preferably than continuing to perpetuate hoary old myths about the incorrigible untrustworthiness of sports journos.

If we do lose Caddy for pick 15 and hopefully a bit more in return.

Would we do pick 15 & pick 38 for JOM?
And would GC accept the offer?
Or would we be able to keep pick 38 and trade H-S instead?

If we got pick 15 for Caddy, would people be willing to package it with Carlton's second rounder for pick 6 from Gold Coast? Throw in Hyphen if they're actually interested in him

To get us what though? If the stated aim of the club is to win a premiership in the next 2-3 years, how does pick 6 help us do that? Especially when it comes at the expense of a 24 year old who is about to enter his prime.

1st & 2nd rounder for Caddy? Serious? Why was he dropped a few times? Is he that good?

As I posted on the Richmond board earlier this week, Caddy has not been dropped once in his four years at Geelong.
