Have you been there? I mean the streets are clean and the trains run on time but its certainly not my idea of a desirable State.

Political discourse is frowned upon, speech is policed, and it is extremely stratified whereby most of the middle class have a live-in Philipino housekeeper and all the blue collar jobs are performed by temporary 3rd world immigrants. Car Registration cost circa $100k.

Have been there a few times, but never lived there, nor have friends who live there, so I couldn't provide much of an informed opinion. Maybe I'm wrong, but I always considered Singapore a watered down democracy of sorts, having some electorate accountability, despite being a one-party system. From the outside, most Singaporeans seem pretty happy from what I've garnered and it's a safe and prosperous enough country. Certainly not the worst place to be from my experience. One thing that deviates from my post however, is in regards to minimal government intervention in daily life.

I don't see the car rego cost as relevant though. Surely this is more about the size of the place and population than it is the political system? Shanghai has a similar situation for example, where buying the plates can cost more than the car.
