Traded Bryce Gibbs [traded to Adelaide] - (cont. in Part 2)

They're doing a lot of winning at the Crows, with a young list.

You'd need to have a big change of fortune to become a destination club.

Delusions - Crows have realistically done SFA.

We are 1 year into a 5 year rebuild. It won't take much longer to see the direction we're headed in, and there is only 1 direction for us to go: Up.

No, we won 17 games. And a similar number the year before.

You might find wins difficult things to recognize, but players like them.

That's 17 times singing the song. 17 Gatorade circles. 17 positive weeks on the track.

Carlton haven't had that since Craig Bradley was running around.

Or sideways. Or just stay terrible.

But yeah - it'd be hard to go further down.

One of the other Carlton posters refuses to believe Carlton are still in a rebuild and are now in the "development" stage?

I think the point of that post was to point out that we've started the rebuild, when the OP was implying we needed to start from scratch.

I agree were moving to a development phase after 2 years of extensive list turnover. Does that me we don't need to remain active in turning over the list, trading and drafting.....no, certainly not - flag winners should remain active imo. What it means is that the chips are slowly falling into place for us. We now have the makings of a reasonable spine and have picked up some promising youth (which we must continue to add to). The key now is to develop our young talent into successful afl players.

2017 will be another poor year in terms of wins. But any player were looking to bring over, we will be selling the idea of winning a flag.

As a Carlton supporter would you have done a straight swap Lever for Gibbs, both first round draft picks lever at 20 Rising Star Nom looking like a potential 250 gamer Gibbs at 28 not that long to go. Not at same level of ability ATM but years of upside ahead for Lever?

Absolutely not.

Lever may well develop into a terrific footballer, but we're going pretty well at the moment when it comes to young key defenders.

To trade one of our best mids for another wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.

Weitering could go forward.

Lever is an absolute gun and would be part of our next premiership tilt, I reckon it is unlikely Gibbs will be.

I've heard it all now, This is as bad as when you thought a 29 year old Jamison would fetch a late teens pick. Lever> Marchbank and Plowman and Lever >Gibbs every single time.

Weitering may already spend time up forward.

Not questioning Lever's quality but we clearly rate Marchbank very highly, had already committed to him, and probably wouldn't have brought another key defender in in exchange for one of our best mids.

I did? When was that?

Forgive me, it was another Carlton moderater brotheren Malifice. However ky point still stands, 10 years + of Lever over whatever Gibbs has left any day.

There's absolutely no way the Crows would do that. No chance at all.

It was a similar decision made by the Crows to trade Sean Wellman one of our priority picks who was a rising star nom and went on to become a dual AA for the bombers with D jarman who was part of those 1997/1998 premiehip team and might I add an integral part of those teams

I see it as a win/Win for where the clubs were at

What lack of knowledge in regard to a Carlton poster calling people sooks because they dare question Carlton superiorority. Carton are no good, there is plenty of evidence, even a heavily suspended Essendon defeated the Blues and still you all think your on the right track just because of Silvini.
If Gibbs was perfectly fine staying at Carlton he wouldn't have asked to leave. I'd take the fact he asked to leave when he had the chance as better evidence than a post event interview. What else was he going to say at this point.
It's the Blues supporters with no idea about their list. First you all think Murphy and Gibbs are still going to be around when your finally competitive enough to push for a flag, like it's just around the corner and you all keep constantly mentioning ten game players and in many cases zero game players as ready made stars who will make it 100%. No wait and see,no patience just its definite and if you have an opposing view your a hater or a sook. Unbelievable, and the typical Carlton arrogance that has led the club up this path and why it has struggled to get back.

Lol a bit harsh but agree with your point, that there has been a few players carlton supporters mention will be long term AFL players when in reality they may not play at all.

They have made the right moves recently but are a few good drafts off bringing in the quantity and quality that is needed to rise up the ladder.

Fair call, but do you think it would be a fair and reasonable swap considering the age of each player the upside Lever has against what you are going to get out of Gibbs for the remainder of his career, they are both quality just at different stages in their careers

Maybe so, but in reality this is no different to supporters of any club on BigFooty.

The troll you quoted is just using a very wide generalization to justify his strange and slightly disturbing obsession with Carlton.

They have made the right moves recently but are a few good drafts off bringing in the quantity and quality that is needed to rise up the ladder.

I think most Carlton fans agree with you there. We have every right to be optimistic about the future but acknowledge there is plenty of work still to be done.

If I was Carlton's recruiting manager I would've kept pick 7 instead of trading it for Jaksch and Whiley and used it to draft Lever. That trade irks me no end. Much happier with the way SOS trades. You blokes were lucky he slid to your pick on the back of his knee injury, got yourselves a great young player there.

From what I've been told, neither Lever nor Wright would have been taken at #7.
Marchbank was very high on our radar and Duggan was in the mix, before the aforementioned.

I've said it since the day that trade went through and I reckon my opinion will be justified by the end of Lever's career. Who Rogers would have chosen had he kept the pick is neither here nor there.

Had have many clubs taken Fyfe (effectively in the first round) instead of a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h, etc............

Just saying that it wasn't all Rogers doing for relinquishing the #7. That's what can come about when you don't have a dedicated List Manager.

You also said we need a major rebuild before acknowledging we have been rebuilding. What we need now is development.

Maybe he meant some of your rebuilding players are not the right type or good enough?
