Was hoping Green would win. Didn't think he deserved it though. Poor decision.

But as a spectacle, how shithouse was that? Boring as batshit and lacked any class, strategy or nuance. Looked liked two 40 year Olds that didn't want the humiliation of a knockout while trying to land the haymaking killer blow. So anticlimactic.

It's not really about the level of skill at this point though imo, it's about growing the game and opening it up to new fans to generate more money for the AFL. If there is a top level women's league getting plenty of exposure you're going to get more young girls playing the game at the lower levels, who will want to watch games, spend money on team gear, which will lead to larger tv deals, bigger sponsorships etc etc.

I think in the long run what the womens league allows the afl to do is negotiate from a steonger position against the players assocoation for men because whatever profits are won will have to be offset to the womens league 'equally' otherwise all you screaming pinkos will bandwagon hop to the nearest social justice warrior stop to protests the inequality.

You know who you are.... now run along to the mall and get the feminist cap jobe was wearing when he last did his I'm coming back to football speaking tour.

I hope this wasn't directed at me

You sound like such a pathetic victim
"wah wah, its sexist against men"
Grow up

Was at the women's game last night, got in 5 minutes before lockout. Place was jam packed and the atmosphere was great.

That is great, however an historic game like this, if it was the men playing would have had been at the MCG and had 100K at it.

I think there should be an AFLW and hopefully this will generate more interest and fans for Aussie rules as a whole and bring more women into the game, both as players and administrators. I also think that any woman in the AFL should be treated the same as any men.

However when you start talking about pay equality, this is an entirely different thing. Simple fact is that the AFLW will generate significantly less revenue for the sport, hence the lower pay grade. Unfortunately it is not quite that clear cut. Base on this idea GWS players should be getting paid less than others as the club isn't generating any revenue for the AFL.

I'm surprised how fired up some people are against the women's footy. A couple of guys yesterday were angry saying its BS and they are trying to be like men etc. Who cares. If they want to play footy then let them. If you dont want to watch then dont. The rest will sort itself out.

What historic game for men lol? Richmond and Carlton at the 'G in round one can't even fill it out. FWIW there were a good few thousands locked outside after I went in, should've realistically been held at Etihad in hindsight but it was great to see that level of support.

Your first point is utterly illogical. If it was the men playing, by definition it wouldn't be historic.

As for the pay stuff, even the most fervent AFLW supporters aren't saying it should be equal pay - the seasons are shorter and the league obviously isn't paying its way. But the comp will get bigger and there will be a need for players to be compensated accordingly.

I found the fight enthralling . The 1st 30 seconds when the Ref said let go let go let go . The Ref had Greens arm pinned and his body also prevented Green from protecting at all times against a sleazy King hitting sniper . Green recovered remarkably whilst not 100% . So that was intriguing and I was so happy how Green fought , letting Mundine come at him and countering with heavy body blows . It was clear to me Green won the 1st 8 rounds . Mundine won round 9 with Green doing the Joe Frazier head bob up and down made him look cooked . Mundine couldnt capitalize on that poor defense by Green in that round . The betting odds went wild at this stage and it appeared Green may well be knocked out in the 10th . However Green came out strong in the 10th so the fight was very clear to me that Green won this fight .
Yes it probably should have been cncelled 30 seconds in with Mundine finishing his career fittingly as slimy character and Green Ironically ending his with the Coward punch he campaigns against . I found it enthralling and to say it wasnt the correct decision is ludicrous .

Was watching an old match (collecting Highlights for a Youtube Video actually) from 2010 and saw a very topical sign in the crowd

If only they knew.

With respect, just because you saw it as enthralling doesn't make a counter viewpoint ludicrous.

I note today many 'experts' and people who know much more about boxing than I do saw it the similarly. This doesn't necessarily make me right, it's just how we saw it. It's subjective. Look at the judges scores on the same fight. These guys presumably watch a hell of a lot more boxing and supposedly understand the technicalities better than you and I (or so they should) and yet look at the resulsts they came up with.

I'm no Mundine fan at all. I was hoping for an emphatic win by Green to silence that idiot for at least a little while. I didn't think Green landed enough and did any particular damage despite his supposed advantage in reach and power. He was slow and cumbersome and his defense at times was awful. Mundine I thought, notwithstanding his early snipe, laid more damaging punches. Its just how I saw it.

I just thought the whole fight was disappointing. For two fighters with over thirty years of fight experience it was anything but the spectacle it was billed it would be. It was boring. There seemed to be little strategy, they both looked slow and laboured through the middle rounds like the 40 year old fading fighters they are. Unlike you, I didn't find it at all enthralling and found myself looking at my watch around the 6th to see how much longer I'd have to sit through it. The ref got involved far too quickly and far too often. Green was allowed to get away with his reverse headlock far too much. Mundine's cheap shot was a joke and showed what a sniper he can be. And since when is below the belt halfway up your abs? WTF was up with Mundine's belt guard )or whatever it's called) being allowed to be so high. Basically protected all but his pecs FFS. The whole thing was a a bit of meh, including the dubious undercard pairings.

3 blokes that were experts judging the fight and I disagree with you and any expeert you havent named . My subjective view is that your view is Ludicrous .

I think you both missed the point I was making.

But meh CBF explaining.

Btw Although I may not have said it directly in my last post, I do think women's footy is a good thing.

I think for women's footy to pay off they have to do something about those playing shorts ..Possibly needs to be Lycra tights like the grid iron girls ..

Just saying aye

I've watched a bit of the AFLW and the quality has been better than I expected. Crowds have been amazing - shows what can be achieved with saturation promotion and timing it when fans are gagging for some footy.

Looks like Fyfe has been giving kicking lessons to their women's team.
And they've had lessons in being annoying shits/niggling opponents

Checked their game day thread and they're whinging about the umpiring as well claiming Victorian conspiracies

Some things are just ingrained I guess

Drinking game when watching the AFLW - take a drink everytime you hear the word "elite"

You'll be passed out by half time

Skills tonight a step above the other games though. Crows were good too mind you. Think that some of the congestion last night was down to the pies (lack of) gameplan.

Favourite player so far has been Jakobsson from the blues, clunking a few contested marks in the second half last night really stood out.

Anyone tentatively latching onto an aflw team yet?

**** I love this game, the corporate stooges at the AFL can globalize it as much as they want and I'm on board.
