I understand that but y is it always us getting things wrong? I am not familiar with what's available up there. By the sounds of it they have got the amount of people that would interested wrong. Surely you over cater not under cater. Just look at the commited lions supporters on here saying they won't be going because the venue is shit. Annoying.

I'm not sure what more the club could do in this instance, there's nowhere suitable to play. They've been trying for years to get something built, with assistance from the AFL and the government (no club can do it on their own), and it's largely fallen on deaf ears.

Burpengary would fit the crowd... Sure, it's further out, but it would fit the potential crowd. Whilst there is interest and people are keen to see the Women's team in action, a trip to Burpengary would put off less people than Brendale, simply due to people being able to gain entry.

The whole league underestimated it. Collingwood was meant to play the opener at a ground with no stands that held 5,000, but were fortunate enough to have Princes Park as a back up when it looked like it was going to be too small. They also could have gone to Whitten Oval, or Victoria Park, or Casey Fields...In Brisbane we have have The Gabba (which they asked to use and were told "no") or suburban ovals. As TBD sort of alluded to, if this was a rugby or league or soccer game there would be suitable in between sized venues, but they simply don't exist in Brisbane. Burpengary is an option, but has its own negatives that may effect the crowd numbers, the main one being that it's not in Brisbane.

Wests at Chelmer would be viable and right next to the train station, or Yeronga which is a pretty good venue now.

Edit meant Sherwood, the wests ground is very up and down.

Maybe me Brisbane Geography isn't great but isn't Redcliffe right next to Burpingary and how many does Burpingary hold?

Redcliffe is about a 30-minute drive from the Burp grounds so not exactly next to it. Burpengary could hold probably a tad more than South Pine (admittedly though I haven't been to South Pine only going off google maps) so probably about 6-8+k if quite comfortably IMO. Less parking IIRC though I don't think it can hold anywhere near 600 cars. I'm not a fan of the Burp and I'm still scratching my head as to why the Moreton Bay Regional Council more or less wasted a few million of my tax payers money on a facility that is so far away from anything. Saturday is more about the venue than it is the game. South Pine is the shiny new government funded community development, and deals were done a long time ago. They would have looked at this last year with the idea that "We can get the Hornets there, NEAFL and the new AFLW".
Now is their first real event, to turn people away will be a poor look, but it would look far worse to cancel. They will still be able to promote a packed out huge event after the fact, with photos of big crowds behind someone cutting a ribbon, I expect. Contractually, who knows what is in place, but getting NEAFL and AFLW games there would have been a bit of a coup for someone.

What this all shows is that Brisbane is in dire need of another facility for medium size crowds.
If this mother of all stuff ups is required, to show all levels of government that there is a need for something to be done, and the Brisbane Lions can show plans for an all in 1 facility at the Airport.
Then i encourage everyone to get down to South Pine on the weekend to show them just how much we do need it.
The more Kaos the better i say.

SOUTH PINE SPORTS COMPLEX THIS SATURDAY!


Following on from two successful outings for our Women's side, be there for our first home game when we take on Collingwood at 3.35pm.



There will be loads of fun for the kids including NAB AFL Auskick at half-time, a variety of food outlets and drinks, inflatable waterslide (bring your togs!), entertainment and more!




Gates open from midday and you can catch all of the action of the Hyundai Help For Kids Brisbane Lions Female Academy v Gold Coast SUNS Female Academy teams at 1pm.



With the incredible popularity of the Women's Team and large crowd numbers forecast, the Club is urging patience from supporters on what promises to be a historic day.



South Pine Sports Complex is an elite community football facility, but with the large number of spectators expected on Saturday, you should be prepared for standing room only amid a thrilling match day atmosphere.


The Club has ensured a Reserved Area for Foundation Women's Members and you
can collect your wristband from the Membership Marquee on the back oval - thank you
for your support!


There will also be a big screen, so you can catch all of the action from any viewpoint
around the ground.


Other important information for the day includes:

• With weather forecast for sun and hot temperatures, be sure to bring sunscreen and a hat. We'll provide a free chilled water filling station - bring a bottle!
  
  
• There are over 600 parks available onsite, but where possible we urge you to carpool or make sure your car is full.
  
• Our good friends at Uber have provided a $20 discount code for members and fans who are NEW USERS and will have a dedicated zone at the venue for pick up and drop off. The code is LIONSAFLW.
  
• The team will sign autographs post-match on-field, so get your FREE banner and collect as many signatures as you can.
  
• There will be a big screen, so you can catch all the action from any viewpoint around the ground.
  
• There are plenty of toilet facilities at the venue.
  
• Please avoid bringing any large shade structures as they will not be permitted as we trying to maximise spectator views.
  
• No glass or alcohol is permitted to be brought into the venue, there is a bar and licensed area onsite.

If you miss out on a spot on the sideline, head over to nearby Eatons Hill Hotel to catch all of the action on the big screen in the outdoor function space.

I think they're now wanting to turn people off going, not make it easier.

When you think about it, how ****** is that? We have a struggling club that people want to support but are being discouraged to do so. We're trying to expand the game in Queensland and people won't be able to get in the ground. We have a new league that we're applying a handbrake to it being properly established. We're showing piss poor support for the growth of an elite women's sporting comp, when there is research which indicates that it will have positive impacts on public health and wellbeing.

Talk about an own goal.

Is their lighting good enough for a televised night game (AFL brought in mobile lighting to enable Pr. Park to have a televised night game, v. Coll.)?
Does Yeronga have a turf cricket pitch, which is used in summer for cricket?
If not Yeronga, could it be moved to Metricon? Is Brenvale Oval in the south of Brisbane/close to Gold Coast?

This game at Brenvale Oval is looming as an easily PREDICTIBLE embarassment -for AF in Qld., for the AFLW players, & the skills they would like to showcase, & for the sweltering spectators. Only winners the other codes, & skin cancer specialists.

Yeronga is the home of aflq there is some shade but not a lot. it is a good ground with a good surface. There are lights but may not be tv quality.

The fog can roll in at night at certain times of year.

Metricon is down the coast, brendale is in brisbane....just

A quick Google would answer the location questions and the cricket pitch query and a small glance at the fixture would show that we don't have night home games.

Come on at least put in a little effort!

You're correct. The explanation for this farce of a DAY TIME game in Qlds'. heat & humidity at a distant, small, flat venue (thus very poor spectator visibility) with no cover is now apparent.

From the Moreton Bay Regional Council website of 15.2:-
Mayor Allan Sutherland said "...the AFL's women's debut...was the PERFECT (my emphasis) way to celebrate completion of the multi-million dollar South Pines Sports Complex AFL precinct...".

It won't be moved.

Great for the pollies... a pity for the AFLW players & spectators, & for promoting AF in Qld.
