Dale Thomas

Through no fault of his own his body has just let him down. Was a very damaging player at Collingwood

Surfing and being on the piss constantly when in rehab didn't do him any good, Dale might have got back to his peak if he had taken his ankle injury seriously.

The other ankle?

Haha.. it's hard to fathom how one doc can say he's fine.. the other terrible. Apparently his ankle is that bad it's making his foot point at right angles.

Pity really.. he tore it up in 2010 and 11. Was an absolute pleasure to watch him play. Gut running.. jumping on opposition heads.. trickery.. one on one smarts.. super evasive skills. Big time player. Bob rose medalist in 2010. Other great finals performances. He was a spiritual player.

Now he fades into the crowd when he plays.

Toughest player at Collingwood alongside Ball in 2010/11, amazing some of the plays he would do just crazy, something people don't seem to remember or want to.

He is still a prick, will never forget how he handled his contract, disgraceful.

He averages 14 games a year and goes into the third year of his four year contract on the edge of the 22. You got sold a lemon.
Who cares how many games Levi avg when playing at North?

Greenwood was fine last year, played 21 games and came 8th in the BnF.

Basically what we expected to get from him, a good solid senior midfielder who has a dip, likes the physical stuff isnt the best kick but is actually pretty accurate around goals.

Not sure how that could be considered a lemon?

Have you seen our other talls? Cloke will play most games. Even if he's just getting up the wings and taking marks he'll be better than what we had last year.

Not too sure about that yet.

I still think it's highly possible that having Cloke in the side hurts your team.

Named to play round 1 - he's a better CHF than Cordy whose natural position is in defence. I expect Redpath's return will be a long, cautious one given it's his third ACL

Dale Thomas was named to play in round 1.....

Betts has been good at Crows, but to say he's made a massive leap since his Carlton days is a bit much. He was very good at Carlton, kicking 50 goals the two seasons before his last when he had a down year. The bump he's had is as much to do with natural progression, and playing with some legitimate key forwards that make his life a lot easier compared to the Blues.

Can understand why Carlton did it though, they thought they had two really good small forwards in Betts and Garlett, and decided to sacrifice one for someone they though was a midfield gun.

They obviously made the wrong choice between both Betts and Garlett (who they since ditched), and in targeting a broken Thomas.

Not hard to imagine a world though where Garlett kicks on and has kicked 50 goals a season for the last few years for the Blues and Thomas had a couple of AA selections. Such are the fine margins in success and failure in the AFL.
He was good at Carlton yes but he's way more consistent at Adelaide. At Carlton he was either on or he could be relatively quiet.

I don't think he would be near the player he is now if he stayed at Carlton. Our forward line is way too crap.

It's not like they didn't exist when you picked him up.

Why'd you pay so much?
Because we needed mids.

Collingwood were happy to let him go for a number of reasons, hardly as simple as him being cooked.

Carlton thought they could get his body right and they haven't been able to.

Carlton just did what they've always done. Throw money at a problem and hope it goes away.

Malthouse and Thomas at his peak would've been enough to drag Carlton from a mediocre 11-11 team to a 5th-8th side.

How Cloke plays this year is entirely up to Cloke.

He has the potential to be the exact player that would fit right into your dynamic lineup (and the guy Bucks has been trying to turn him into the last 2-3 years).
Trav will be best served by losing a couple of kg's, getting on his "bike" and running defenders ragged all day in a roaming CHF role (like he did as a youngster when he got our BnF). Take plenty of marks around the 50-centre square/wing, make room for your other forwards or take your shots from that distance when there arent other options availabe.
Trav CAN do that. It would be great for you guys if he does. I just dont think he wants to. (Or at least this last year or two he's not wanted to do it consistently).
If he does that - he could easily have another 2-4 years in the league as that Reiwoldt like player.

If Trav tries to stay as that gorilla FF who demands the ball every time to come to him in 1 on 2 contests, then your forward line structures go out the window and the defensive side gets an easy rebound more often than not. (Particularly when he doesnt put on any defensive pressure).
You will be much worse off if he plays like that, and cant see Bevo giving him more than 5 games in that role without sending him to the 2s.

Across 8 grand final quarters in 2010 he was the BEST man out there in my opinion. Anyone says he could never play is talking through their arse. He was a star at Pies. Injuries got him and going to a club who are chronic losers finished him off. Even though i hated the way he handled his contract at the end - i feel a bit for him. was my fave player for a while there.

Irony is Betts is on less Money than Thomas and is arguably the best small forward in the game - the area of the ground Carlton need the most help in

Complete gun at one stage. The memory of a few in this thread is very poor or very selective.
He was a gun half a decade ago mate.... Im sure Carlton fans don't care one bit how good he was at the pies, it is how he is at your club that counts, and he has earnt 700k roughly a year at the blues giving SFA in return form wise.

It still kills the Pies supporters that he left? Stop being jilted lovers - didn't you get a draft pick that you used on the superstar Taylor Adams (oh wait)
