At other clubs.
You would surely think at this stage with the new agreement so close that those who are signing would have something written in the contract to incorporate any increase once the AFL gets its ass into gear.

There are grade 11&12 students in the volleyball squad at my school that are physically more imposing than Josh Watts was after two AFL pre-seasons.
But are they islanders?

There are kids running around under 12s who are over 180cm and 85kgs.

I thought the Mick Taylor method was when you bring him in because your guitarist is too bent then replace him with Ronnie Wood a few years later.

On HTC 2PS6200 using BigFooty.com mobile app
Further your bent original guitarist is found suspiciously dead in a swimming pool and you still roll Mick Taylor out the next day. Then sack him because he isn't bent enough.

This isn't aimed specifically at you Sizie, but I can understand a lot of worry and angst about Schache in the face of everything that we've seen in the last 5 or so years.

In the interests of introducing a bit of perspective as a circuit breaker, I would make the argument that it is very likely that we won't see any movement on contract figures and signing until after the TPP gets sorted out, right? At least it is my understanding that negotiations are still ongoing.

Regardless of any intention to both stay or go, I can't see any deals being done before that, right?

Deals will be agreed, with provisions for upgrades when the negotiations are finalised. I don't see ongoing negotiations as an issue at all in players signing contracts. They will still get done.

I think if Schache asks for Tom Boyd money on the back of only two seasons plus unfulfilled potential you should wish him good luck at his new club. A vital aspect of winning flags is salary cap management and if you start awarding huge contracts based on potential rather than proven results half the kids on your list are going to start putting their hands out which will never allow you to squish enough talent in your cap to challenge the NSW franchises.

Speaking of NSW you have Sydney to thank for the loss of COLA and its a shame because Schache is one of those rare cases where a struggling club almost does deserve some kind of leg up to keep him. Then again unless a culture that inspires loyalty from its' players can be created I doubt you'll be successful since mercenaries rarely dig deep when the going gets tough. Schache may have tons of talent but if he isn't ready to bleed for the club maybe you're better off replacing him with a kid who is. Doggies won a flag last year with a very mediocre crop of KPPs after all.

I hope Fagan turns things around for you guys, there's nothing like winning games for building a team's spirit.

Behind a paywall so I won't post link but there's an article in Herald Sun saying Richmond are after Schache. No new info. Carlton also have made an enquiry and it's thought he could get 700K in the open market. Article also says we've told him something along the lines of he can have whatever money he likes.

That was nearly 2 months ago...this will get dragged out until at least the bye; as will the Schache contract despite the very best efforts of our new team

We lost COLA over a decade ago. Had nothing to do with Sydney.

I confident Schache will sign, but if we lose him I don't think it will hurt us that badly with Hipwood, Close, Walker, McStay, Freeman and Ballenden to choose from in 2018.

Just letting you know all the BigFooty "experts, I know a guy who said this, I know people within the club" have started a post with schace already excepting a deal from Carlton 700k 5 year deal.

Just let you know haha

Better result than Richmond draft pick wise.

We have 2 firsts this year. Dont be surprised to see us offer both 1sts for schache or a 1st and a player. Richmond are fair to deal with and will pay market value.

Yep. We also never had a Cost Of Living Allowance, we (and any other club with below 40% local players) had a retention allowance.

Under no circumstances would it be fair if Schache leaves.

As a club, we may as well give up if our first rounders continuously leave after doing their minimum term.

Thanks for the reassurance mate.

Its tough but Northern clubs also get the benefit of selecting from academies which we dont. It all evens out in the end.

It will just happen in future that clubs will stop picking interstate players with such high draft picks in the fear of them wanting to go home.
