Look at the last 10 years, clubs just don't get star forwards with 2nd round picks and above.

Which is why I made the comparison to Dawes. If you want a star, you have to either crash to the bottom of the ladder or inherit one as a Father-Son.

Given our likely mid-table finish, trading for Schache might have to be the way we go for a younger highly-rated talent...

That's all I heard last night..."No darling".
I often get..

Don't
Don't.....Stop
Don't....Stop
Don't..Stop
Don't .Stop, Don't Stop, Don't Stop........................:D

Offer schache 500k worth no more when Danihers new contract is just above that.

May will be excellent if we can land him

Do you honestly think Daniher is on no more than 500k?

I would have a look at Tom Lynch from Adelaide before I sigh Sam Reid.

It would probably take a fair bit of prying though, since he's apart of their leadership group (I think) but he plays 3rd fiddle over there and McGovern and Otten are both starting to present themselves as forwards.
I was hoping we'd have a crack at him when he left St Kilda.

Anyone from the below list is worth getting for various prices (KPFs only)

  • Walker
  • Jenkins
  • Schache
  • Daniher
  • Mccarthy
  • Hawkins
  • Lynch
  • Wright

Didn't bother with Franklin, Kennedy or Boyd as all three are on long-term contracts

I would trade Sidebottom and Blair if they were up for it :p

May or may not add a first round pick to the above.
Blair has no trade value. Steele is not the player he once was but as they say "you don't appreciate someone until there gone" just ask Hawthorn.

Blair has no trade value. Steele is not the player he once was but as they say "you don't appreciate someone until there gone" just ask Hawthorn.

The Blair part was a joke, but I'd like to think Sidebottom still has the trade value of a second round or thereabouts. He's the type of player who'd probably need to be packed up with something to get anyone.

Bruce: Age 25; 197cm; Wt: 102kgs; Games: 76
Kck: 6.8; M: 4.5; CM: 1.4; HB: 4.3; TK: 2.3; I50: 1.4; GL: 1.4; BH: 0.8; Clang: 2.5

There you go! I thought he averaged more goals. Also noted his highest season goal tally is 22. I thought he'd had a year he'd kicked over 50! Goes to show you need to check these things :o

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this! I watched quite a bit of him in the VFL back then and kept thinking 'this bloke has it and has what we need' ("need" being a young marking key forward to help Cloke and develop alongside Moore, who wasn't quite rated as highly by some at the time). Unfortunately, he went at 47 (IIRC?), after we had traded 44 for Jesse White, when we still had Quinten Lynch on the list to play that same role...:'(

Yep. I'll add another couple to that as well. Hibberd and Newman. Pls dont take this in any way shape form that I think I know better but between the three of those boys we had options on how to fill a couple of structural weaknesses (forward life planning for post Cloke and ball use out of the backs). In all cases they would have cost us little but instead we went in other directions. If you stuck Hibberd (or Newman) and Brown in our side now we would be a lot better.

Again just to be clear I think Hine has done a pretty good job but I dont think in the last few years we have been as bold and creative with our latter selections than we should have.

Bruce would be a great fit for us. A really good fit. What would he cost?

Not a lot but he would want to leave. My understanding is that he is pretty rusted onto the Saints so its unlikely. Particularly given highly likely they can play Bruce / Membrey and McCartin in a post Roo world. They will be spending their discretionary $$$ on elite mids and thats good news for Bruce and wanting to stay.

I just get so angry that we could have / should have taken Ben Brown. I know we looked close....love to know why we didnt pull trigger

yeah he did but its a new world in list management and faced with off loading him vs keeping JK I think i know whihc they would aim up at.

I'm pretty sure they'd keep Patton. GWS is big on exhibiting culture and loyalty, otherwise they'd be closer to GC. Players leaving for the mother of all contracts isn't unprecedented. Trading a guy that's taken unders a number of times to stay at the club, never makes a big fuss about re-signing, and tends to re-sign months ahead of others out of contract would not play well into that.

Would love May at CHB, we seem to take opposition players in pairs at the moment, Greenwood and Wells, Howe and Dunn, Treloar and Adams, this would be Schade and May.

I wonder what we could get from Freo to go with Mayne

DeGoey or Sidebottom to GC for May, maybe a 2018 2nd round pick swap for their 3rd round.

Don't like what Schache will cost, think we've given up far too many 1st and 2nd round draft picks, and to use it on a speculative young Full Forward would be irresponsible. I would however trade our likely top 6-7 pick for a quality established FF especially if we were able to land May without using it. I think we are a quality Key Back and Key Forward away featuring consistently in finals.

From a free agency perspective, Sam Reid is the only fit.. . So for the right price i guess Reid would be ok.. Would help us structually but not thrilled at the idea.
