I cannot claim any of his good work as I had written him off. If he does end up coming good I will be very pleasantly surprised. But surprised nonetheless.

Neilson is a beauty. Come and watch him in the VFL if you can and you'll see what the fuss is about. Reckon he'll make it based on what I've seen this year.

The travelling Tigers headed to Beaconsfield on Saturday afternoon to face Richmond in their last game before the mid-season bye.

Holm Park Recreation Reserve, which recently hosted a AFL pre-season match, was the venue of choice and Werribee was looking for its fifth consecutive win after starting the year with two straight losses.

The North Melbourne contingent hit the scoreboard early, with Anderson, Mountford, Larkey and Hibberd all kicking first quarter goals to give Werribee a 10-point lead at the first break.

In a tight, low-scoring encounter, Werribee kept its noses in front throughout the middle two quarters. Swallow was influential in the middle, while Fordham chipped in with crucial goals when needed.

Werribee led by 14 points with a quarter to play, but Richmond started the final term with all the momentum and quickly cut its deficit to less than a goal.

A stalemate ensued for the next 10 minutes, but deep into time on, Werribee found what looked to be the sealing goal. Richmond quickly hit back however, and the margin was just four points, 28 minutes into the term.

Werribee was able to hold on, aptly winning by five points for its fifth victory in a row.

After not playing at any level last week as the AFL match day emergency, Swallow was influential this week through the middle, racking up plenty of the ball and using it well going forward.

Able to both stop his opponent and find the ball, it was a well rounded game from the Kangaroo as he continues to improve with every week.

Swallow the extractor
Despite Richmond investing plenty of time and effort to neutralise his influence, Swallow was still able to find plenty of the ball at the contest.

His second quarter in particular was a standout, his disposal count well into the double figures, with a handful of clearances as well.

Preuss v Maric
Braydon Preuss had one of his toughest tests of the season, facing veteran Ivan Maric in the ruck all afternoon.

The two battled back and forth, evenly splitting the contest; a reflection of the entire match around the ground.

Mid-season bye
After a slow start to the season, Werribee enjoys next week off now with plenty of momentum, aiming to return to the finals after missing out last season.

It is comfortably inside the top eight with a 5-2 record.

The only issue being is that Daw is contracted for another two years. Always thought it was a bit much putting him on a three year deal considering he output at a AFL level.

I've seen you mention needing to train harder a few times. Care to extrapolate? Big difference between his training not being up to standard as opposed to not going the extra mile in his own time.

Durdin will be fine. We just need to change our expectations. He isn't a replacement for Tarrant he is a replacement for Hanson. He plays that role very well.

Was a big part of that win against Melb. Was stopping Demons getting first to the ball. And since our next game is against Stkilda I think he'd be up for doing the same thing against their midfield.

He didnt play a bad game but his kicking is still awful and he was about 10 meters away from me when he roved the ruck tap, broke through a tackle and then butchered a handball straight to a Richmond player resulting in a goal. No one has ever doubted his ability to get the footy or lay a tackle. Its what he does with it that counts.

Have a look at the highlights package and see what mountford does when he DOESN'T have the ball. Chases and harasses like a man possessed. I would've had him Best with Neilson 2nd.

If your relying on a stats sheets as to who was best on instead of people watching or coaches votes you got no right to be criticizing those of us that actually go to the VFL and support our young players. Us "self appointed commentators" do it for those on here that appreciate the feedback.

I dont think Swallow should be in front of mountford at this stage. On all reports he had a good first half but disposals hurt him in the 2nd half. The guy cant figure out which foot to kick on most of the time. Ive loved his effort for years but hes not coming back from this
