Delisted # 8: Martin Gleeson - Not offered a contract, finishes his Essendon career on 97 AFL games

Firstly, loved his game. Those intercept marks are a huge weapon.

As a side note, can anyone tell me how the disposal efficiency stat is calculated?

It says he was disposing at 94.7%, which would indicate 18 of his 19 touches were effective.

But there was a play where he took two marks in a row - and both of his kicks were marked by Carlisle.

Surely a kick marked by an opposition player can't be deemed as being 'effective'?

This is right - long kick to a 50/50 is considered effective. Even if possession taken by opposition

I've been most impressed with his marking.
The clamps are coming along nicely.

Thanks, that would explain it.

Quite strange really.

Looking the goods though, young Marty. Still want him to put on a few kegs, but for now we can try and hide him on the least threatening opponent forward and leave him playing his current role.

fwiw, i think the exact criteria is 40m+ to a contest. such are the whims of CD

Just saw Gleeson's elbow injury thing on the replay. Hyperextension by about 20º with about 8:50 to go in the second quarter. Looks gross :(
I think that's how Justin Crowe will describe the injury on tomorrow's update !

Martin Gleeson has been cleared of an elbow injury and is expected to line-up when the Bombers take on the Western Bulldogs this Sunday.

The Essendon defender fell awkwardly during the win over North Melbourne.

He received treatment on the sideline and returned to play out the match with strapping around his arm.

“Luckily for Marty he caught his weight with both hands because one of his elbows hyperextended,” High Performance Manager Justin Crow said.

“Thankfully his full weight didn’t go through it.

“It was sore, we strapped it up during the game and he played on.

“He’ll be ok to train tomorrow and available to play.”

The benefits of being light weight!
