I don't think Lecras plays any different now than he did 8 years ago, just at the moment it stands out more because of his age.
As for Parto, I have seen him play a few times and he has done little to impress. But not seen him the last 8 weeks.
As for him butchering the ball, well Priddis and Masten have been the kings of that for 10 years and Gaff ain't much better either so he should fit in nicely.

You're massively downplaying the significance of Kennedy's absence. He missed 5 games and we went 2-3 during that time.

And that's not counting the Giants game where we were ahead when he went down and ended up losing.

Was more pointing out that none of the teams currently in the eight have Kennedy playing for them either. Yet we've had him for all but 5 games where he's delivered comparatively more goals that anyone else in the competition and we are still losing and playing shit footy. Hell we managed to lose last week with him in the team and kicking 6 goals. Its a hell of an effort.

This goes to my comment around a top four list delivering a bottom eight performance. We've got an A grade defence, A grade forwardline and as much as our midfield is a joke it does contain two brownlow medal winning mids (including the bloke who won a B&F last year for the best team this decade), Gaff who was an AA last year and Shuey in his prime. I accept that yep Nic Nat is a gaping, hideous hole and Lycett has compounded that but its no excuse for where we are at as a club.

This is some really great data you've compiled.

WCE are going to be in a world of pain over the next couple of years from this. Freo are going to win a flag before WCE.
Hey hey hey i know your pissed off and the team having been absolute trash and we all know it! But i think your over reacting, Freo will NEVER win a flag. N.E.V.E.R!

He's obviously not 100%, so why push him?! Play him every other game maybe, his 4 goal game when he came back from a break was good, but he din't capable of sustaining that! Karpany, while not a star, deserves an extended audition.

With Priddis, give him a couple of weeks off, I think having Shuey, Sheed, Redden, Mitchell and Yeo moving through the guts would make us look a lot different.

I don't see why it's so hard to use "rest" or "general soreness" to make selection changes.

I actually disagree.
I reckon the midfield functions a lot better without priddis and Lecras in it. We have won games that priddis at least has missed. We look totally cohesive and quicker without priddis.
If next year priddis and Lecras aren't playing along with Petrie and the older players we will be better for it.

The fact is we haven’t finished off games this year well at all,” Simpson conceded.

“But in 15 out of 17 games, I think we’ve been in front halfway through the third quarter. There’s a lot of good to take out of that, but there’s also some concerns about how we are finishing off games.

“To try and dismiss what is happening late in games is silly, so we’ve got to look at the whole part. We are really pleased about what we are delivering for two and a half quarters, but there’s a real concern about we are finishing off games, and anyone we play knows that, so that’s something we’ve got to embrace.

“We’ve got five more games to work on and we’re up for the fight.”

While Simpson intended to keep backing his team in, he hoped to find opportunities to filter some of the club’s young talent into the line-up before season’s end.

However, he said the club’s fledglings would not be given a free pass into the side by virtue of their birth certificate.

There’s got to be some integrity with selection as well,” he said.

“Planning for the now and for the future is really important, but we’ve also got to look at the kids coming through. I think we’ve got a pretty good balance in our side at the moment.

"If you took out Drew (Petrie) from the weekend, we would have been younger than Collingwood. We’ve got an eye on what we’re doing going forward.
If there was integrity with selection then why have LeCras and Priddis been selected week in week out, despite their obvious lack of form and positive contribution to the team? And I'm gobsmacked that Simmo believes we have got a good balance in our side at the moment. Has he been watching the same West Coast Eagles football as the rest of us? I'm afraid I'm losing/have lost confidence in his ability to be our coach going forward.

I know everyone is calling for blood but I am really struggling to see any good candidates for a head coaching role this year.

I have asked this previously and the only one close is Sumich, which I personally think would be a big mistake.

Fair enough to call Simmo out, I think he needs to take some of the blame for our under achievement of the last 2 years but please someone give me some better realistic options.

He is justifying the balance by saying we don't have a problem for 3 and a half quarters but is looking for the problem after that.

He dismisses the age factor and is looking for other issues amongst fitness, mental, fatigue and will to win etc.

Simpson's press conference has me more concerned than ever.

"Some of the things I don't think we can fix this year in regards to fitness and speed, but some we can really work on."

So we aren't fit enough? How come? Why is the team put on the park not able to run out games? Has our program all of a sudden become a third rate fitness program?

We can't fix lack of speed? How about dropping players who can't run, drop a couple of talls who can't run out games and actually add players with leg speed.

EG: Out: Priddis, Petrie and Le cras. In: Karpany, Partington and either Wellingham / Hill.

Sure Hill and Wellingham are not the long term answer but they do add leg speed.

"We're looking at everything, we really are, and the one thing we can get right is our effort.
"We've got to get the balance right and play a team that's willing to fight for four quarters."

So to date we've been continually picking a side that doesn't do that. Why?

These admissions by Simpson don't read very well as to his coaching ability. I'm normally a 'glass half full' Eagles supporter and poster on here but I am losing a bit of faith in the abilities of those in charge to make the right decisions.

Get ready for a rollercoaster few weeks, lads. Hopefully a few careers don't implode any more than they have whilst we're 'forced' to play them.

I think the lack of fitness line was a cop out.
The AFL system requires all players to meet certain fitness targets, it would be probs the same at every club. If players were lagging behind we would know about it as the media cover pre season time trials etc.
I agree with him there is nothing that can be done now about their fitness but I don't believe that's the issue, lazyness is the right word and he will not say that about his group, no coach would.
But if they actually are not fit enough then Simpson should be in trouble.

Spot on, his presser raised some pretty concerning questions and you outlined them succinctly.

That's not really what he said.

And what he said was basically true. Everyone calling for Partington's inclusion is doing so based on the fact he's getting high-20 possessions and kicking a goal a game. That's great but it's not the be all and end all. If he's not working defensively or he's butchering the ball then his stats alone won't justify his inclusion.

I've only watched a few Royals games this year but he's never stood out to me and made me think "wow, we need this kid in the seniors immediately".

I want him in the side but that's more because I think we're not getting enough kids through the system and he's the obvious answer to that.

I get your point , so taking into consideration you have seen Partington Play and the defensive side to his game is lacking how would u compare his game to Hills and Mastens piss weak tackling turnovers and defensive games ?

Why won't Simpson play young guys like lamb karpany and co. They need to be getting games into them now. Worsfold is playing all our young kids and just not for 1 game he is sticking bye them and it's paying off. Woosha is doing an unbelievable job with our youth and building for a flag

Because we made a GF 2 years ago he's going for it while he thinks we're in the 'window'.

To Simpson this means playing older players week in week out, with no regard for the future, or who might actually be a better fit.

Well Woosha is largely to blame for our (WCE) midfield incompetence as it currently stands.

He's come into Essendon from the outside and been able to coach with a squad he's had nothing to do with. While Westcoasts squad is aged and decrepit without the institutional strength to rectify it.

Yeah and u have been in a fast decline since. The writing was on the wall mid last year that you were not going to win a flag with that list but he still persists. Clarko nearly got the hawks to another GF last year but still had the courage and vision to understand that he had to move on club champions and rebuild the list.

Don't disagree, I think a lot saw the writing on the wall.

Those good games we played end of last year could have been to our detriment as it gave hope to our squad again, hence the top ups this year.
Seems those games were a flash in the pan.

Simpson is a goner.

What a catastrophic, dismal, waste of 4-5 years his tenure has been.

Absolute disaster.
