Has never been a big ball winner though like Judd & Shiel...needs to get more involved.

Spoke to a friend tonight who has been working on a Hawthorn football club staff members house for some time now.

The staff member told him that quite a few senior players at the Hawks do not like Sicily with Hodge even suggesting at trade time that Sicily should have been part of the Jaeger trade.

We all know that Kelly is shaping as a gun and he has a fair bit going on at the moment but gee he is going ordinary at the moment. Seen a bit over the last 3 or 4 weeks and he is going backwards at a rate of knots. Surely there is something going on.

The last four weeks he has averaged nearly 28 touches and over a goal a game. He is out of form and he is still that good

I would love to get Kelly, but since losing Cripps, I feel another inside bull should be the main priority. If that is Hopper then great or go to the draft for one. Seeing most of the kids struggling last night against bigger bodies, maybe we need to be focussing on a blend that leans more towards trading for more mature ready players this year like Hopper, Smith, Whitfield. Then draft best available with whatever picks we have left. I know another preseason will see players like Cunners, Fisher, Samo come out stronger and fitter, but we need to remain competitive for the whole season not 2/3. I do have a sneaky feeling we will get looked after a little by the AFL. Either with Levi compensation being Frawley like or a decent priority pick (just a feeling)

Starting to lean this way now Kelly is going to cost way too much for us right now . Just cant give up 2 high picks for him even if Gibbs leaves . Hopper for the 1 highish pick target a bigger bodied mid through the draft . Maybe Saad + Balic then throw everything at Shiel next year .

Offer our top 3 pick, most likely pick 2 and leave it at that. He is out of contract, he doesn't have the same currency as a contracted player would. We'll take our pick to the draft if it doesn't get the deal done. Either way, our rebuild is going to continue nicely.

Saad is exactly what we need.
We'd easily be a better team with him in it.

I don't mind it. As our game hopefully evolves into a more free flowing, instinctive style someone like Saad could be catalyst for plenty of rebound 50s and coast to coast goals - actually in our favour!

Josh Kelly is 20th in the AFL for contested possessions and 11th for total tackles. He averages 5 clearances per match (the same as Murphy). Despite getting many of his touches contested, he's also 12th for total effective disposals, 10th for I50's and 11th for score involvements.

Look at those numbers man. Look at them. He's a 'run both ways, get his own ball, damaging inside/ outside high output mid who gets it 30 times a game and has fantastic disposal'. He's racking up better stats than Murphy this year (who is having a great year), and he's only 22.

If we finish with pick 1, I'd hand it over for him in a heartbeat.

Why on earth would we give that up for Kelly?

That alone tells you he's not worth that.
