Only Greene knows if it was intentional or not, I've actually done a similar thing in footy without even knowing I did, had eyes on the ball and knew contact was coming, raised by foot and got the guy in the chest, I was only trying to protect myself.

Given his history it's easy for people to have a set opinion on the incident.

Will be interesting to see how the MRP deal with it.

Why should you be allowed to protect yourself with a high foot? Incredibly dangerous thing to do (as we've seen tonight).

If that's the logic then where's the line. Start suspending knees to the head in marking contest.
This isn't black and white, you can make a strong case either way.

You shouldn't, everyone usually puts their knee up for protection.

FWIW I think he'll get 1 week.
Don't think he can get a week. Due to his priors, 2 is the minimum I think.

The line is kicking someone in the face when they come towards you. It's not like he was crouched over.

It's an incredibly dangerous thing to do. Very lucky he hasn't got him in the eye etc.

Again, you can argue the other viewpoint. Protecting himself to win the ball.
Not clear cut.

Dangerous precedent to set imo, 5 years ago tackling was A-Ok and now it's chook lotto as well.
If we're going to grade this as reportable then I'd say careless and low impact. $1500

As I said, you should not be able to protect yourself by putting your foot at head height. It's incredibly dangerous. It's not tolerated in football, it shouldn't be tolerated in the AFL either.

I don't see how it can be low impact when someone cops a boot to the face.

I don't see how it's reportable when it happens numerous times a season and the AFL has not once mentioned it as an issue.
Seems likes rules on the fly again to me if he goes for that without warning of such acts being a no no.

A foot to the face happens multiple times a season? Sorry, have you got some actual examples? Everyone I've seen has said they've not seen it before.

No, using the foot as a protection mechanism. Players do it every season and this is the first instance where it's hit someone in the face, been incidents over the years where foot has made contact to the torso, which under the rules is a sanction-able zone to hit is it not. So if that's never been reported neither should the face.

Dangerous precedent.

No weeks for mine. If you suspend Greene for that then you need to start suspending guys for protecting themselves using knees.
