Clement retired early because his wife had significant health issues and he could better support her with a more traditional 9-5 type job and back in WA.

Tom Swift retired? I thought he was found wanting and delisted.

I thibk it was that and vusiness interests

So, I guess it's going to be me who gets this back on track. I think we should pickup McVeigh on a player into coach deal. I await the flamethrowers...
A long with hodge as well, could do worse

With Ballanden on the way, Brisbane's KPP stocks are starting to look ridiculous. Might be an opportunity to prise one away in the next year or two, as much as it would irk Lions supporters.

Three years ago they had the worst KPP stocks. Now they might be the best. Saw Close on the weekend for the first time, he's not that bad. But can't really say either way off one sighting.

Schache hasn't done much to impress so far but has time on his side, but Hipwood is an absolute beauty. The fact that he grew up up here in QLD makes him a tough target though.

I do actually know quite a few engineers who are on $250k+
Yep there would be plenty who do.
But I doubt any of them have just graduated from Uni and are earning that in their first year.
People are assuming that he was offered a massive salary from exxon straight up. I find that very very hard to believe.
No way he would be earning anywhere near what he is at the moment at exon.
What he was offered at exon was probably a career path which would lead to him eventually earning very good coin.
Doctors don't earn 250k their first year out of Uni
Lawyers don't earn 250k their first year out of Uni
IT specialists don't earn 250k their first year out of Uni
Geologists don't earn 250k their first year out of Uni
And...drumbeat......Engineers do not earn 250k their first year out of Uni

I really like Dan McStay has good hands and uses the ball well. Think he could be a really good fullback and replace Dunn in one or two years. Think only Hipwood, Schace and Harris Andrews appear to be their 'untouchables', so would a deal involving a Josh Smith type and maybe a late-ish pick get the deal done for him?

Agree with all of that. I was just responding to the claim that "It's incredibly fanciful for old mate to be saying that an experienced engineer would be earning $250k+"

Paul Connors on Open Mike tonight confirms Judd wanted to go to the Pies but Connors didn't want him to because the Pies did not have the picks or players to get the deal done and said Carlton was the only team that could get a deal done

Paul Connors on Open Mike tonight confirms Judd wanted to go to the Pies but Connors didn't want him to because the Pies did not have the picks or players to get the deal done and said Carlton was the only team that could get a deal done

He made the comments in an episode of Open Mike, to be screened on Fox Footy tonight at 8.30pm, in which he detailed Judd's preference at one stage was to join Collingwood.

"I remember Juddy leaning towards Collingwood at one stage, (but) I didn't want him to go to Collingwood because I couldn't have got him there," Connors said.

"They didn't have the picks, it wasn't going to work.

"In the back of my mind, I thought Carlton, Melbourne and Essendon could do the deal.

"Essendon didn't have a coach (at the time). They (Melbourne) didn't have good facilities, they were at the Junction Oval.

"Greg Swann pounded the pavement and worked pretty hard (to get Judd to Carlton)."

What could have been..............

I think that was pretty well known at the time we didn't have squat to give for Juddy. Hindsight shows he should have probably chosen us. Who knows what would have happened though if he did.

Was that 2006 or 07?

In a system where there's a sub 1% loyalty rate between players/clubs, the 'most part' bit becomes a joke.

Honestly, this whole anti Trump argument is ludicrous. The majority of American voters were anti Trump. The man is a buffoon and not fit for office. At the end of the day though, being anti Trump doesn't automatically make a person a democrat, or a socialist, or even mean they're not a Republican. It simply means they're sane enough to recognize that a narcissistic idiot shouldn't be in charge of their country. As for the intellectual family, his family is full of engineers. Who all earn relatively big money. Why you're painting them as some kind of amazing specimens who value loyalty over the almighty dollar is beyond me. It's not like they're a bunch of philosophical academics. It's an odd point to make because having a college degree in engineering would really have no bearing on a persons attitude towards money and loyalty.

You have no idea what topics I am or am not educated on. What an astonishing assumption.

Not going to apologise for a blunt assessment, and you disagreeing with me doesn't make me wrong. The fact that you're requesting an apology after the mud you've slung over the course of this exchange is beyond astonishing.

*Except for.

Not my problem if you get upset over being called out over an inability to seperate a persons political beliefs and the influence of the prevailing culture in the professional sports industry in their country.

I maintain that if he gets a better offer from a different club he will likely leave. He had multiple clubs chasing him initially and he accepted our offer because it was the best one. He owes us nothing. And I have no grudge to hold with that, he has a limited time in the game and deserves to make the most he can from it.

Is this topic for people to talk trade targets or to just talk s**t about complete nonsense with actually no relevance... not directed at individuals but been off topic since a long way back

My first proper look at the draftees this year will be in the U18 All Star match before the Grand Final.
So can someone tell me the difference between pick 6 and a top 3 pick in this year's draft?

Because at this stage I'd much rather use pick 6 in a trade for picks 1, 2, or 3, than use it in a trade for Lever. Especially with the rumoured salaries on offer for Lever.

Looking back Missing Judd help set-up for to 2010 Flag.

We would had to Trade more then what Blues gave as we would have to find a High Draft Pick

This comes up every year, but the demand at the time from West Coast was Pick 14, Dale Thomas and Sean Rusling...

That actually seems like it would have been good value lol

The difference is a little but not by much imo. Rayner for me is the best player in the draft but it's looking like if Brisbane finish last (I don't think they will) they will over look him for someone else because of a flight risk. The rest is a bit of a throw your name into a hat. LDU/Cerra/Dow/Brander/Coffield/Fogarty could go in any order. Plus there may be someone else not named that could be taken before our pick.

I like McStay too. No idea what it would take to get him, but he re-signed for another two years just a few weeks ago so he's not going anywhere right now. He did admit to thinking about coming home to Vic, so I daresay quite a few clubs will be sniffing around again in 2019. If he keeps tracking as he has been, it would take more than Smith and a late pick I'd think.
