AFL Club
Essendon
Deserves recognition.

Taking part in the guard of honour for Jobe yesterday.

It's not something I remember opposition clubs doing in the past, seems like it was just the player's own teammates and officials. But nowadays once the siren has blown they all seem to show respect to retiring players.

I have seen it when the opposition club has also had a reason to take part for that player (such as Geelong for James Kelly's 300th), but this was simply for an opposition player. I think it's great to see personally and I hope Essendon do the same in future in that situation.

Yeah everyone's doing it. The Cats did it for Pav's 300th or was it 350th. Dogs did it for his last game.

I think only one team has forgotten to do it in recent memory. Cant remember who but they were roundly criticised for it.
Coach and Captain apologised the following day.

But kudos to the crowd of Freo supporters who stayed. Could have easily left or booed.

Less common NOT to happen now isn't it?

I seem to remember WCE doing this for Rohan Smith circa 2006 when he had his 300th and last game in the semi final..

...and WCE circa 2006 were basically the Evil Empire, so who knows what this all means?!

Pies didn't do it for Scott Thompson and his 300th game. They were vilified for it but surely it's their call whether or not to do it.

I don't think the Dogs were able to wait for Pav to leave the ground as their plane was warming up on the tarmac. But they made a good banner in his honour.

Dogs went to stay but Pav with media commitments knew the Dogs had to go and told them to.
