We badly need this type of player ~ a high flyer that can complement JK. None of our forwards are of this type - not JK, not JD, not Lecca, not Waterman nor Allen. Someone to fly over the top would add another element to our attack. Yes, we have Nik Nat, but he will be rucking most of the time.
Not sure what he adds that Ryan can't, apart from the serious injuries (injury prone body?), and habitation transplant.

So what position does he play?

Half forward / mid?

Like the sound of elite kick and a left footer.

Interesting to see were we rank him. Is he a preferred pick or backup in case who we want has been picked up already such as Kelly?

Or possibly a rookie spot?
Bayley Fritsh is a small forward, so we should compare him to Liam Ryan, or draftees like Gryan Miers.

If it comes down to taking a punt on Hartung as a DFA or using our last pick in the draft on some mango like Schloithe, you’d go Hartung without a second thought surely.
No.

Lets not get distracted people. We need midfielders as our number 1 priority. Also priority 2, 3 and 4.

Everything else is secondary. We still have Riolli who hasn't played yet don't forget.
Not saying we shouldn't get a small forward late in the draft but honestly I don't care if we don't.
The last few years our only weakness has been our lack of an engine room.

I am sure the eagles won't do it but I wouldn't be opposed to using every pick on midfielders in the hope we find 3 or 4 good ones.

I am sick of having a good forward line and no-one to get it down to them. If it wasn't for our backline this year, we would have been way down the ladder.

You're shitting me.

You'd prefer Sloth aka poor man's Hutchings over a young AFL quality player?

The **** out of here.
Hayden impressed me almost as much as Kelly this year, so I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't share the love around a bit. He offers a hardness around the ball and a goalkicking prowess that Hartung doesn't. A much better option with a late pick/rookie slot.

Whilst I don't disagree with the gist of what you are saying , we need to get our heads around the fact that the recruiting team have stated that they will focus on midfielders AND small forwards. So expect one or two small forwards to be in our draft haul.

Truth is we need both midfielders and small mids.... but in that order... mids first.

Spot on.

I am a big fan of Hayden's game.

But Hartung isn't AFL quality. He was just delisted by a bottom 8 side.
Sloth is like a Cox or McGovern. Could be a good player, as unlikely as that is, just needs a chance.
We already know Hartung is no good.

The more you look at players I am starting to lean away from Hartung. As long as we utilise all the positions on our list meaning 40 main list spots.

We need to look far and wide to try and rectify our lack of development in the 21 to 24 year old group. If that means drafting a full list of 40 plus every rookie spot we are allowd then do it. I just cant see us having a salary cap issue so why limit our main list to 38 or 39?

Last year we could have drafted Ryan or Kelly but we simply didnt use those places.

So what do we know about this Guelfi 20 year old Mr Fix It? Plays for Claremont.

Sounds like a versitle type with good pace, endurance and has a good defensive mindset. What are his skills like?

Potential rookie :heavycheck: ?

Would prefer Zac Langdon..... very tricky around goals.

I agree the eagles said that but I don't understand their reasoning.

We have Le Cras, Cripps, Riolli, Karpany as small forwards. - Not sure why we kept all these but we got them. If we get another small forward it makes some of these guys obsolete. Le Cras has one more year but the rest still have many years if we keep them.

As I have mentioned before, my half forwards would be resting mids or young mids like Venables and Ah Chee, plus whoever we draft and rotate them through the middle. As long as they can be dangerous forwards. I wouldn't put a Redden type in that position.

So my forward line would look like:

My reasoning for the half forwards. They need to be goal scoring midfielders these days who will also chase and tackle.
I left out Shuey because he would be better actually resting on the bench. But imagine if we had the luxury of playing Shuey in the forward line. He would probably get 40 goals a year.

Nicoski role with better decision making. I see him as a HF at AFL level.

The reason we kept Le cras , Cripps, Rioli and Karpany was that only one of these four is reasonably consistent and not in their final year. That being Cripps.

Le cras is playing his last year most likely.

Karpany is a fringe player.

Rioli hasnt even debuted yet and all Rioli's have hamstring issues and Willie is no exception.

Cripps when fully fit is up there as our best defensive forward. We need at least one more plus mids who are more than capable around goal and who can defend. Kelly and Ah chee fit that bill. Id like to see Meirs or another goal kicking small mid picked up.

100% agree that if we get a small forward I would prefer a potential Midfielder/forward like Meirs. I am not opposed to getting Liam Ryan at the end of the draft but to me it is not a massive priority. If Ryan played then I only see room in the team for one of Le Cras, Cripps or Riolli.
