Those ****ers calling NS medalist before the games over. How professional can you get.

Dusty is so damn good he bursts into threads about the son of god. How good is that!

Yep, astounding when you think about it, but that practice added the fuel to suggest Voss was robbed, and he wasn't, IMO the 2002 GF is in the top 3 games i saw Buckley play, he was epic for entire game, as i said earlier, the Voss shit comes from the Burns bump.

And

by the time both Ablett and Dusty turned 26 just judging by that time not anything after Dusty has had a better career

Sigh.

We get it.

So had Selwood, so had Judd, so had Fyfe.

It doesn’t matter.

Ablett, unlike all those names mentioned, played exactly 100 games in which his primary role was as a small forward. In a relatively average side, he didn’t shine. He was serviceable, flashy, but ultimately not that great at it.

In 2007 he went into the midfield and became a genius.

Compare that to the other players, who are midfielders, and have been around the ball their whole careers. Of course they are going to have had better ‘at the same point’ careers.

It’s like saying that Cricketer B has had a better career at the age of 26 than Cricketer A, because he has made more runs at the same stage, while completely ignoring that Cricketer A played his first four or five years as a bowler.

The Son of this God was always going to be good as long as he put the work in.

17 minutes and 35 seconds into this video just look at the pure skill of his Dad with such ease kick on his wrong side and kick a goal most on their kicking foot cannot do.

He accumulates like few others, has obscene skills in close, tidy disposal in general and makes excellent decisions under pressure. No one else ticks all of those boxes.

One of the most important attributes a player must have, which isn't really highlighted in any stats apart from disposal efficiency.

It's baffling how Geelong supporters can be this mind-meltingly sooky someone even dares to compare a player to one of there players and they have a massive tantrum TBQH fam it's pretty sad no wonder they call you hand baggers

He’s not even been a Geelong player for the best part of a decade.

You realise that you’ve been trying to argue this with supporters of every single club. As much as you don’t believe me, the multitude of posters in this thread talking about his status in the game are not Cats fans disguised as other teams’ fans.

Put you in the category of ‘well if anyone tries to use a logical argument and refute what I’ve said I’ll just call them a troll or accuse them of having a meltdown. That will show them.’

does gary have any flaws in his game? I don't see it

perhaps what makes him great, is there is no area of weakness for oppositions to target or exploit

Reading the play and balance.

He knows where the ball is going ahead of time and that allows him to get so much of it without being bigger, stronger, quicker or fitter than his opponents - not that he isn't quick, fit or strong but he doesn't have the physical advantages of a Dangerfield or Martin.

Then he's so perfectly balanced he can move left or right, kick left or right or handball left or right. Combine core strength, footy smarts to know what he's going to do with the ball and a beautiful compact kicking motion and he's just superbly balanced

Came here just to say balance, Well said mate. The most balanced player I've ever seen.

I know different sports but Roger Federer is very similar in this regard, They always seem in control and are always level they make the sport they play look very easy.

You don't say. Dusty has been a star since day 1 clearly better than anyone on Collingwood's list been a star for years whats next you say some hack like Adam Treloar is a "star"
The joyful thing about admitted trolls is that there is a wonderful ignore feature we can use on them.
Much like I've just used on you so now your inane trolling won't distract the enjoyment of this thread.

Michael Voss is better and also Dustin Martin at the same age has polled more Brownlow votes than Ablett

Ablett had played in 2 premiership sides and won a Brownlow by the age of 26 - one more premiership than Martin's played in. Ablett also turned 26 in 2010. In that year he had more possessions, marks, tackles and goals than Martin had this year, despite playing in one less game.

Ablett also had 8 consecutive seasons with 20 or more Brownlow votes, from 2007 to 2014. Dusty's only had 3 so far. Maybe if he can keep it up for another 6 seasons you might have a point.

Just a good, strong Christian player with good, strong Christian values. He was way better than Dustin Martin in his prime, blessed with the poise of Brad Green, the rationale of Joel Bowden and the will of Shaun McManus. I also really like how he left Gold Coast in a crisis of faith, no need to watch any of their games next year other than the ones with him, in which he will still be their primary marketing tool.

There is Ablett jr and then there is daylight....at his peak he is by far and away the best player we have seen in the past 25 years and certainly in the top 5 of the past 50 years! The great football tragedy was he wasted his time up the Gold Coast for so long...no finals appearances since 2010 and footy has been the loser!

His balance, agility and awareness are freaky. Rarely loses his feet, and is rarely out of a contest or caught cold.

In 2007-2009 he was doing things I've rarely seen, like crawling out from under packs and running off with the ball.

Some Geelong coloured glasses hyperbole there.
Seriously, he is a level down from the Carey's and Lockett's of last 25 years and also his Dad to mention another.
He is certainly not far and away better than Voss, Hird, Nick Riewoldt and a few others of last 25 years.
He is in similar class to Judd, Harvey and probably 3 or 4 other mids of last 25 years also.

I can buy top 20 of last 50 years but kidding yourself he is certain top 5 territory that has the likes of Lethal Leigh, Carey, Lockett, Jezza, Robbie Flower, Bartlett, Hart, his own Dad and a few others in such a conversation.

Then he is an average footballer if you think that. Hyperbole? I think Ablett jr has proven himself, but i do accept the fact that football fans today hate the fact he will be playing for a better team next season. His years from 2009 -2014 are extraordinary and i see plenty of daylight there... he is in a class of his own in the mid field department. Fan theories are like hot dogs at the footy, we know they lack any real substance, but we can't stop eating the things because they're fun to eat. Luckily for us, Big Footy is a perpetual motion machine that endlessly churns out insane reinterpretations of who was the best or worst in our game.
