Dude get off my nuts. It's my opinion based on the evidence to date. He's done sweet FA at SANFL level and is lucky to get a gig this week. There's nothing to suggest he's going to be anything more than fringe AFL standard.

But if you want to present any evidence to the contrary, I'm all ears. Just a hint though, magic isn't a valid argument.
On the crow cast this week did you argue for giving these young guys a go? I recall you arguing that we need to see what they can do. I glad we are finally seeing what hooch can do

Tough call on the biggest selection melt. There have been some absolute shockers over the last few years
The one at home against GWS in Pykes first year when they picked VB was close, he was terrible but ...

We won against the odds that night too

Otten in the wet last year , oh dear we won again

Maybe we will win again , who else can we pick that we don't like ??!!

They're really giving this game away. Could be a big loss. At least our back line is in tact.

Otten in must surely be due to experience only and the fact of who the hell else is there? Nothing else. Fog obviously being rested again. He must have a pretty low fitness base.

Still Otten or no Otten it probably wouldn't change anything. A loss will get blamed on this single selection.

Thompson in Darwin. Bingo, won that one as well.

It's been answered, but you just follow up with "yes but how do you really know???" like a child.

If you're really that interested, do your own research, watch a few SANFL games, analyse some stats.

I'd love to be wrong because I hate the thought that we blew a flag on a dud pick. So I'll be happy to see him do well. But I'm not seeing anything to suggest that will be the case.
Sorry mate. Some people don't mind having discussions on a football forum.

Absolutely. But you would have heard me suggest Ben for the small forward role. My argument is not to not play them, but to play them in position.

The only thing I can see Otten in for is his experience and usually level head. We've lost Sloane AND Betts AND Mackay this week... that's a lot of games to lose in one hit. I'm not a fan of bringing him in, but I can see why it might have been done.

There is no silver lining to this selection.

We realised last week that we went too tall (because 5 talls has a snowballs chance in hell of working), and instead of fixing it we've decided to replace a talented youngster with a has been. Experience doesn't save you when you are done as a footballer, and Otten so far has looked done. The worst part is by resting Sloane we've accepted that a victory here is unlikely (not that this is a bad move mind you, resting Sloane is acceptable) making this much more baffling.

This is quite easily the biggest **** up of a selection our "committee" has ever made. It's that bad.

Isn't that what Im trying to have? But if you're going to discuss something, bring something to the table, not the generic "how would you know?".

I said to a mate before the season began, the only occasions Otten should be selected in our AFL squad this year is if Sauce, JJ or Talia are injured. Other than that, strictly SANFL with a break glass if no other option arises clause... add him into the mix with Tex and we're just too damn slow, the Grand Final was proof of that.

The only way this selection would make any sense is if JJ is injured (2nd ruck/forward) or Talia is injured and drops out. Other than one of those scenarios, it has to be one of the most bizarre and potentially awful selections the Crows have made in recent years, and that's saying something!

I was genuinely interested in how some of you guys seem to judge talent so efficiently. I don't have that ability generally - I have to wait and see, and some guys seem to develop later.

Dangerfield looked special from the start though.

I'm not being a smartarse here, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, but my son will tell you that I turned to him after Dangers debut and said "he'll win a Brownlow one day".

I don't know about others, but when I look at young players I look for a weapon. They may stink it up for a while, but every now and then they do something that makes you think "wow". There's some kids on our list I'm dubious about because I don't see a weapon. I see a nice even player that will never impact a game. Gooch is one of those. WMJ is another. Greenwood on the other hand, whilst not dominating, has that inside "time" and great hand eye coordination. Lachie Murphy has the goal sense and work ethic. Poholke has attack on the ball.

Remember when Nick Riewoldt started? Couldn't kick for shit. But the kid could run all day and take a grab. You knew he'd have an impact. Rory Sloane, a mid tier pick, comes in and works his guts out. He's not pretty, but he impacted games from early on.

Gallucci has leg speed. But he doesn't get to enough contests and doesn't hurt with his disposals. His speed isn't enough to offset that because it's not lightning like Cameron. He may mature into a good "bottom six" player, but imo he doesn't have a weapon that will make him a Crouch, or a Danger or a Sloane.

PS I've been a CEY fan for a long time, which just goes to show that I know jack shit lol

The Otten selection is just plain awful with no merit for current and future concern for this club. I think the current selection panel should be subject to concussion tests.

Spare a thought for Gibbs tomorrow night who will be highly exposed in the midfield (why not pick Hampton instead for further support). Let us pray that he gets through this one unscathed.

Surely Otten will play the third tall down back as we have been undersized in that area all year and have the personal up forward.
They have no talls up forward though. No Tippett, no Reid and Sinclair has to ruck because they lost their #1. Unless we plan to double team Buddy with Otten and Talia and play one extra down back. Not an awful strategy but I'd be surprised if they did that.

Hell we played in a GF last year. It's not all doom and gloom.
Playing fit players will alleviate a lot of problems as they can get to a contest and affect that contest.
We got nothing from an injured Sloane and an injured Betts.

Pyke needs to go back to last years game style. At present we are chipping the ball around like Port use to do in the Primus years.
We owned the corridor for most of last year and our kicking hit a target.
When the confidence goes the work rate goes because players are just that little bit hesitant to want the ball.
If we go out there with the right mindset and put in an continual effort who knows what will happen tomorrow night.
We are still a good team.

Hope we get get a fit and firing Sloane back soon to go with M.Crouch. Would love to know whether Sloane's foot has got any better over the past two weeks or if playing has held it to it's same average level or made it worse.

Otten is a really strange selection, would suspect there might be a late out, really have no idea where we plan to play him given he's been playing as a defender in the SANFL.
