Actually, I think if you're trading depth players (those ranked 19-30) it rarely puts you in a position to draft top end talent. You might end up with a player ranked in that mid teens to 18 if lucky, or pluck a Dane Swan with a late pick if the footy gods are truly smiling upon you. It may assist a secondary trade if using the pick gained as a sweetener but I doubt either Wills or Greenwood would attract anything useful enough for that purpose.

No but it clears salary cap to make room for talent. And can be a sweetener in a deal to land talent.

Still a bit early in the season to determine what Wills might be worth to a team needing a ready made medium term prospect.

As for Greenwood, some decisions will need to be made about how many senior players we might want to carry in 2019. Whilst we arent carrying that many players in this older age bracket we still dont want to be too heavily invested if they are not guaranteed best 22 going forward. Between him, Varcoe, Goldsack, Blair, Mayne, Fasolo, Wells and even Broomhead (slightly different case) some decisions will need to be made about how many spots to keep open for players of this ilk. I'd reluctantly add Elliott to this list too but hes a keeper for mine. Just too good to give up on or trade away.

It looks like Carlton needs some mature mids to help them develop there young mids. How about trading Wills or Greenwood for Carlton's third round pick in 2018.

I can see them being interested in Wills, and Sire if they can't crack senior appearances at Pies.Greenwood not in their age profiling. Their not getting their smutty hands on JDG that's for sure..

He was pick 47 by the way in the 2013 Draft.

Pick 6 = Mathew Scharenberg
Pick 10 = Nathan Freeman
Pick 65 = Tom Langdon
Pick 77 = Johno Marsh

''Charlie'' was a cult figure at Collingwood for his unorthodox kicking style that was jarring to the purist but extremely effective. He was also an excellent contested mark.

His nephew has similar characteristics where his style made recruiters think he was a bit ragged and messy as a player so orthodox football aesthetics would not recommend him as a player. He is a salutary reminder to look at results not style.

“He was a bit ungainly and awkward. A bit messy,” another recruiter said.

Collingwood recruiters Derek Hine and Jason Taylor met Brown and Manson at Manson’s bayside graphic design office and discussed with the pair the option of Ben coming to Melbourne, where Collingwood could help with his rehab and he could live with his uncle and study. They promised to rookie-list him the next year.

He declined. He thought if they liked him that much they should rookie him straight away. They declined."

I'd be open trading both and keeping both.

Is this Greenwoods last year on his contract? If we are to keep him i'd want it to be for considerably less coin than his last one. I think we may have other plans for that cap space. But he isn't bad depth.

Wills likewise I can't see ever being a lock in the 22. But I like it he adds a big bodied hard tackling option in the middle that can step in. But his pace in transition is an issue. I like what he gives in the VFL too!

Do you think Carlton would actually want them though? Greenwoods kicking is suspect and I think goes against the Hawthorn-esque style Bolton is going for. And with Cripps already in the middle I reckon Wills might not fit the balance they'd want.

With Cripps the only player of his type on there list, l would be surprised if they did not a Greenwood or Wills. They need another badly or in a year or two Cripps will be warn out.

Forwards like him don't come around very often. Hines biggest miss IMO........he said it was Tippett but this is equivalent to Tambling over Buddy IMO.
