But how much faith do we have in the admin to make a decision on a decent coach? The last two have been utter disasters. We re-structured the development and recruiting departments around the end of the 09/10 era and that's been a massive fail. The whole football department appears to be dysfunctional. The board? The president? Moorabin has been a tick. But the issues run deeper than the coach. Hopefully we’re looking into an externally run review. From my, admittedly un-itk eyes we need brutal objectivity from outsiders who know how to run a successful football program.

He needs to go, and we need to get Ratten to come and give it another go.

Too often discarded coaches are forgotten but look at Malcolm Blight at Adelaide after failing with the Cats.

Ratten's gotten Carlton to finals multiple times in a team that had Judd Murphy and Gibbs but then nobody else and has also had several years as as a senior assistant under Clarkson.

Richo isn't a coach he's got no tactical sense and the players proved that by telling his gameplan to GAGF. He's crushed the spirit of the club and the players look lost.

I'm not sure if I'd go that extreme. I couldn't comment on how well Finnis is doing his job. I just think our problems to be more widespread than just the head coach. Maybe the coach is ok and we don't have the cattle and our development systems are poor? I don't know. But the entire system needs an overhaul from my point of view.

I’m sure there are wide spread issues that extend beyond the head coach. Bottom line however is that the head coach has the vision & the implementation of strategies for development, recruitment, structures & the game plan. If we are witnessing failings in these areas then the coach must answer to them. He’s 100% accountable no questions asked.

We need to bring in some fresh blood from a winning culture to be a head coach (surprise surprise like Stewart Dew!) and get him to fix Richo's mess because he's done a whole lot of nothing.

He had to fix a ruined list yes but that was 5 years ago, Ross Lyon had 5 years total at St Kilda. Richardsons had his chances now and needs the flick.

Very underrated what Ratts did at Carlton, just thinking out loud...not sure if he’d want the head coaching position seeing what he has been through. Just the way I’d be thinking if I was in his position, will take him away even more from his family.

In terms of list profile it's hard to compare Richo to any of our previous coaches but if you had to choose I don't think it'd be Ross Lyon. Rossy took over an already experienced list. I reckon Grant Thomas is the better comparison. And even Thommo in his 3rd full year in charge took us to within a kick from making a grand final.

Richo's time is running out. He has had plenty of time to develop and grow the list.

If by seasons end we've stagnated or gone backwards I think it's going to be very interesting to see what they do with him.

It's tricky because he's still under contract and obviously there's always the chance that the new guy we bring in ends up being worse. But something needs to change quickly.

I know we're pretty ugly right now, but surely we can tempt a highly rated assistant with head coach aspirations across to "support" Richo until he inevitably gets the arse (if the nose dive continues). Absolute shoe in.


To be honest though I absolutely loathe our history with our head coaches and would prefer to see the coaches box bolstered with supportive brains as a first avenue, rather than knifing the coach first.
