If Richmond finish top 2, they're a very good chance to go back to back. They play the MCG well while the interstate sides crap themselves there and now they have the experience playing and winning finals together. Will be tough to beat with the home ground advantage.
Yeah it'll be impossible to stop them making a GF if they finish Top2.
Apart from playing the ground well it's the crowd! So loud, gives them so much energy.

As if things weren't 'meltylicious' enough around here, anyway.

Just imagine where this board would be if we had recruited Lids.

I really would rather not.

The melts would be astronomical - and id be leading the charge. After the HMAC quicksand pit that developed, the club had to pay some attention to injured blokes. They did and it fell thru.

I dont have a big enough broom for that.

Didn't we dodge a bullet with Deledio - what makes clubs so obsessed with these injury prone players? How often does it work out - seems to be it goes wrong way way more often than it goes right. Richmond got future 1st round and 3rd round pick - what a steal !!

The fact our club was offering up Caddy as part of the Deledio trade is scary and worrying.

Hardly ever. If you ever want to know why I'm dead against getting older players, injury-prone players, and especially older and injury-prone players, Brett Deledio is a pretty good example.

Absolutely incorrect. Richmond asked for Caddy and we refused.

Is that how it transpired though?

"The 24-year-old Caddy said that when the Cats were exploring a trade for Tiger gun Brett Delideo, he had been asked whether he was interested in a move. That was probably the original reason why. Brett expressed a desire to go to Geelong ... it was put to me if I’d like to look at it (a move to Richmond)."

Either way, it would have been a lot more palatable if he wasn't under contract at the time.

But whom is asking the bolded? Richmond to Caddy or Geelong to Caddy?

The story changed after the deal was done as I recall it. Tigers approached. GFC said piss off. Tigers approached again with better off and it changed and he went.

Plus, by the time of the second approach Prestia had signed with Richmond, so wasn't there speculation that he even spoke with Caddy so the two of them could be reunited.

Or his manger asking him. There are at least 3 ways the idea as first mooted.

RICHMOND is still hopeful of landing Geelong on-baller Josh Caddy before Thursday’s trade deadline, with Tigers football talent manager Dan Richardson advising fans to “watch this space”.

The Tigers originally requested Caddy to be a key piece of the trade puzzle that would allow Brett Deledio to join the Cats. However Geelong was unwilling to part with Caddy in any Deledio deal, which led to talks between the two clubs breaking down.

"watch this space" suggests that Richmond knew there was a strong chance they'd secure him despite Geelong's reluctance to have his name on the table. That says to me that Caddy had expressed an interest directly with Richmond and it's possible Geelong wasn't at that point aware of his preference.

It’s funny that 2 years post fact people are still trying to invent errors for the club.

The club make plenty on their own without having to invent more.

Josh Caddy said:

“That was probably the original reason why. Brett expressed a desire to go to Geelong ... it was put to me if I’d like to look at it (a move to Richmond).

“I thought it was a great opportunity to further my career. I’m so grateful for my four years at Geelong. I got to experience some amazing things and play with superstars of the game.
So now your saying Caddy is lying and the club didn't ask him about moving to Richmond as part of a Deledio deal after it was clear that Deledio expressed his desire to come to Geelong. It was discussed by the club and in the end thankfully didn't happen - stop lying by denying it wasn't on the table early on. Thank god we have the internet and direct quotes from players involved to call BS on statements made here.

I'm going to say yes he isn't being totally truthful about how the talks went down & whom approached him about the trade:

RICHMOND has already spoken to Geelong midfielder Josh Caddy about a possible move to Punt Road with Caddy seen as the obvious trade for Brett Deledio.

Caddy is understood to have spoken to the Tigers in recent days prior to going overseas and his management have also been in contact with Richmond which identified the strong midfielder as a potential exchange for Deledio, who wants to join the Cats.

But Geelong, while aware of Richmond’s interest, has not offered Caddy to the Tigers as part of any Deledio trade. The Cats acknowledge the deal must involve a player being shifted out due to salary cap concerns and the need to satisfy Richmond.

Doesn't seem that Geelong was necessarily the one to initiate talks with Caddy or put him on the trade table. It's always interesting to listen to and read the stories from players & clubs before, during & after the process because the stories do change at every step.

Ultimately, he went to Richmond because Prestia went there and called up his mate. Same with Kersten & Hamling going to Freo - it was something that Kersten was looking at and once he was pretty set on it during that season, he spoke with his best mate Hamling & asked him if he wanted to make the move back west also, so that they could play in the same side again

I still need clarity around which party first proposed a switch to Caddy. Your quote (his words) still leaves it open to Richond making the first approach, his manager making the first approach or Geelong making the first approach. The earlier comment that the discussions hit a wall still suggests to me that when Caddy's name was proposed by Richmond or his manager Geelong said "No".

Caddy's manager Peter Lenton told NAB Trade Radio on Wednesday that he had held conversations with both clubs about the situation, but said Caddy is keen to remain at the Cats.

"I've had chats with Richmond and they've indicated their desire to get Josh through if Brett was to depart," Lenton said.

"I've spoken with Geelong and Josh is happy where he is. He bought a house three weeks ago in Geelong so he was never planning on moving anywhere. So that sort of puts a different perspective on it.
October 2016

Even more pertinent is his manager's comments a year later when talking to Jimmy Bartel:

The push came from Richmond and they made him an offer he couldn't resist. That's clear from his manager's comments in the interview with Bartel.

Yes, I'm aware that he still had a year left with his contract at Geelong and we could have played hard ball but look at where that approach got GC with GAJ in mid to late 2016.

Does all this really matter in the end? Well done to Caddy getting a medal and playing well with a move he wanted....all the best to him.

I’m still very happy with Parfitt and wouldn’t change a thing.

I wouldn't change it either. When someone throws around the word "lying" even in a hypothetical sense I think it's worth looking for any evidence to refute that call.

Does anything really matter? Let’s just shut down BigFooty eh?
