Totally disappointed in what Paul Roos had to say about the matter. GWS is an example where a club has built a strong list with marquee players through the draft and continued to retain the majority of those players through on field and off field performances.

While GWS has struggled this year through injury there is no mistaking the quality of the list that they have built. GWS have been and will continue to be a premiership threat.

The AFL needs to support Gold Coast through mechanisms such as the draft and academies. Growing home grown talent is the future for the northern clubs and the way forward. Allowing northern clubs to pilfer talent from southern clubs through mechanisms such as Cola and ambassador rolls is out dated and questionable as to if it actually works. Paul Roos thoughts on the matter are a little old school and out dated.

Interesting that CFC was the first to object to Roo's comments, time will tell if this means anything.

Pick 4 & 5 & Oxley :) is a lot better deal than what Adelaide got for Danger.
Yeh, but we are giving Oxley so ofcourse were the better offer of value to them ;)

Really wouldn’t be concerned about the AFL. If they do it legally and this marketing thing is around 300k that has been mentioned. He will make a lot more than that commercially playing for us, Richmond or Hawthorn off the field than visiting a school for Gold Coast.

Still not overly sold on the acquisition of Lynch, depends a lot on Moore. If we lose Moore bringing in one very good KPP is a must, if we don’t I don’t think we need.

Surprising to hear Roos being so passionate about Gold Coast given his ambivalent views towards GWS.

I get the sense that Sydney have it deeply in for Collingwood, perhaps extends to Roos. I also had the impression earlier this year he was interested in the Pies coaching gig if the wheels came off for Bucks. Maybe he senses that's gone.

Four clubs ahead of us!!

Hawthorn, Richmond and Hawthorn, Richmond and Collingwood are reportedly in the running to secure his signature.

Nothing in that article that says hes any chance of staying......

I listened to the interview live, Evans did not sound confident at all.

You’re exactly right that we want the Sun’s to keep losing. If they finish with the wooden spoon then they would be receiving pick #2 as compensation for losing Lynch, in that case they would be mad to match our offer with the hope they can get a better deal with a trade.
+100

Tom Lynch thread on the Tigers board is at 120 pages.

Why are they so bitter with us re Treloar when they are the reigning Premiers and likely to go back to back??

On a side note I was speaking to a couple die hard Essendon supporters that "had" to leave the game early because of the Tigers supporters behaviour.
Both of them have never left a game ever in the past. Weird lot these Tiggies.

I went to the game for my nephews birthday. Had a fair few tigers supporters around us & they were fine.
All clubs have their nutters. By the way the Tigers these days are very well setup right across the field & well coached.
Richmond had 3 defenders as the last line of defence all night (including Rance) & the bombers couldn't move the ball out of their defence.
Because of this setup not too many teams are going to kick fast break easy goals against them. Plus their pressure & tight zone was impressive.
Bombers had short kicks picked off by the Tigers fast men plenty of times throughout the night.

Does anyone think we're going to sniff around for luke dahlhaus or rory sloane?

All depends on salary cap after we get the priorities out of the way:

We should first see if we can keep our good young guys who are out of contract (or in the case of Moore get good trade returns if he does actually push to leave), and then try and pick up a best 22 KPP (doesnt have to be Lynch/McGovern, i just havent looked hard at the market - and personally I'm glad Macdonald has re-signed because I think his market wouldve been overblown as a FA).

If we get those done, then I would be very happy for the club to go after those two guys on short cap-friendly deals. Dalhaus you'd reckon would go up forward allowing JDG and Stepho to spend more time in the middle, and Sloan improves any midfield.

And it might be at the expense of some vets who could be expendable depending on how the above priorities go.

Fair enough re the game.....I am just passing on what they experienced at the game.

As for the Tigers game plan...….pretty sure we matched them in that area.
I still don't fear them to be honest. Its doesn't mean they wont go back to back though.

Suns’ pitch to Lynch revealed
By SEN 2 hours ago

Gold Coast CEO Mark Evans has revealed the Suns’ pitch to out of contract superstar Tom Lynch.

Lynch is out of contract at the end of the season, with many tipping the 25-year-old to come back to Victoria. Hawthorn, Richmond and Collingwood are reportedly in the running to secure his signature.

Gold Coast is set to miss the finals again, languishing in 15th, but Evans has explained what the embattled club will propose in hope of keeping Lynch.

“The things that I think are important to him is a great relationship with a coach he thinks is a modern coach and great communicator,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“As a football manager and a list manager, I’ve already proved to him about how we want to integrate our leadership group in the major decisions for the club.

“We have solved the facility issue that sat with the club for seven years.

“I think what Tom needs to see in all of that, if he believes all of that, he needs to see the hope that Stuart Dew, Craig Cameron, Jon Haines, Steven May and other important leaders around the place, are going to help him get to a premiership in his time.”

Evans also said the Suns and AFL haven’t had a discussion about potential ambassadorial funds to help keep Lynch.

The league must keep an eye on competitive balance, but that shouldn’t make them get directly involved in Lynch’s future, according to Evans.

“I know the discussion over the last couple of days has drifted to should the competition itself do something to retain Tom,” he said.

“I think that’s our job and it is Tom’s decision to make.

“The competition must keep an eye on competitive balance and over the years, there has been lots of mechanisms to help with that.

“My concern and watch for us as we go forward is that free agency doesn’t distort competitive balance. Not so much about Gold Coast, but the entire system.”

I feel for Gold Coast. They've gone absolute putrid on field at the wrong time. But they're paying for not getting their house in order earlier. Also they had no qualms poaching opposition players like Ablett so it's coming full circle now.

Quicky you don't send the second in charge of the AFL there if you don't feel guilty about how they set them up initially.

Personally I don't think two teams in Queensland will work until the Academies provide players for them.
That could be ten years away IMO.

I just skimmed over the most recent few pages of that thread. I reckon they're starting to wonder (second guess their confidence) about the motive behind Bucks' comments on radio yesterday as well.

I liked the one about giving Tom's girlfriend a $500,000 job like we did Treloar's :p

The best part about it is that Treloar has changed girlfriends since. His girlfriend is literally now an employee of Collingwood :tearsofjoy:
