He's a 20 year old mid-way through his second year in the AFL system.

Has a long way to go, but has shown some signs already and we're giving him plenty of time to develop.

That's not a stuff up. That's called committing fully to player development, and it's something good clubs do. All the time.

Time will tell if it is or isn't. For now, all we have are our opinions which we are all entitled to have.

Hard to see another club offering more opportunities than us at the moment.

All been demoted and who knows what another club may think &/or offer to get a young disenchanted player across as a preferred senior player (not saying they are but can be played on as a recruitment angle).

I dont really see Wallis as a good fit in our midfield, if people are convinced that Kennedy is going to be a long term member of our midfield.
Cripps is many great things but quick over the ground is not one of them, Kennedy also not quick and adding in Wallace would make a rather pedestrian midfield no matter who else you throw on the outside.

Exactly. This is a guy injured for much of his under 18 year so him taking a little time to develop not surprising. You would hate to be in situation he only on 1 year contract and all of a sudden had a break out year and scored 35 goals as a small forward and out of contract that same year.

Two year contract gives him some time to develop and confidence these guys trust I can make it in time and also us some security in case 2019 season all of a sudden becomes a Butler type year of Tigers last year. One year contract you leave for the Sam Rowe and Alex Silvagni types or a guy like Mullett.

FFS, the kid is barely 20. Hall of Famer Dominator was still finding his feet then.

I'd argue Polso's showed the least out of any player taken in the 2015-2016 drafts. Cuningham's best has been awesome, but he's only shown it in patches.

Both Macreadie and Kerr look comfortable at the level, despite needing some obvious development. Both have deficiencies, but they can certainly be worked through. If we get the best out Macreadie he'll be a gun.

Was a bit of a draft bolter 'ol Polso only playing a handful of games in his draft year - cutting it up in school footy mainly. I couldn't see much hype around him, and his lack of size is a bit of a concern given his speed is pretty overstated. He's got a nice kick, but we haven't really seen it at AFL-level given his low-production in admittedly some difficult games to come into.

Would have waited to the end of the year to assess given the difficulty we're going to face in finding the requisite number of players to let go.

You are kidding aren't you? The requisite is a minimum of 3, think Polson would have been safe despite the extension

I'm talking in terms of the rebuild as a whole rather than the administrative conditions we have to adhere to. I'd rather have waited til the end of the year to extend his contract - especially given how strong this draft is expected to be.

He was a late pick and this draft alone won't finalise our shortfalls

Do you really think a decision 6 years ago when he was 17 by completely different people would impact upon his thinking now? Does that mean he wouldn't go to GWS or Bulldogs either? Or maybe he wouldn't come to us because SOS didn't pick him... rubbish comment.

I would have been happy with a 1 year deal for Polson. Forget AFL level evidence but he has struggled at the easier level in the VFL.

Our VFL team has a direct need for midfielders. He should be able to compete a bit better than what he has. His body type historically suggests decent early career form.

2 years is mehe given we will be chopping some older deadwood.

I'm not saying it is a pressing issue, but it's a gifted contract on what we've seen so far.

As I've said, I'd rather wait until the end of the year to finalise the contracts for guys like Polson. A 2-year mid-year extension on the back of 2 AFL games and patchy VFL form is a bit overzealous.

Says a bit about your character to go back at me personally about a comment. Toumpas and Wines were seen as similar players and Melbourne went the other way. For some people that wouldn't sit well, regardless of some personnel changes.

Macreadie I would think an exception to this. Given our oversupply of tall backs, surely if some club came asking and willing to offer a goal kicking small forward we would consider.

Surely we need to add some value to him before a trade. He at least has to get on the park and show us what he is capable of.

I also thought the Polson 2-year contract was pretty OTT.

He's show a few very small signs and 'looks' an AFL player, but we haven't seen anything substantial in his few games that'd suggest he's worth another 2 years. I would have waited til the end of the year, maybe offered one but it wouldn't have wholly surprised me if he'd be delisted.

That being said it's far more constructive for the development of the group not to have too many 1st and 2nd year players running around the senior team.

Probably a bit either way. Small risk to sign for 1 also. If he becomes a gun thats great.

Yep, simply put we don't know. Keep him hungry with the knowledge he can earn a big payday if he improves a lot.

I agree.

Suspect it's another 'statement' from Bolts and co that there is a contract available for those young guys who put in to meet their designated KPIs (whatever they may be; in the case of Polson, perhaps win less of the ball and pressure/tackle more?)

Yeah of course you would look at it, but the reality would be that he would most likely attract offers similar to the players we have targeted that werent getting a game at gws. Now SOS may have a view that he is not good enough anyway- in which case he probably wouldnt want to play him- just to confirm that to other clubs. BUT it seems to be the consensus that he could be a very good player long term, in which case why are we entertaining offers.......clearly SOS wants some depth in our talls.

Ya never know, but i reckon we're into him BIG time. It makes sense that we are to me. Perfect player, perfect time, for our team.
