I don't have a problem with the outs.
Ideally there are more (you know who), but unfortunately there aren't many putting their hands up.
This obsession with Hampton is weird, he's proven that he's not AFL standard and somewhat of a liability.

In a couple of weeks when we have more names to choose from, I fully expect the Mackays, Atkins', Kellys of the world get dropped. But for now, it is what it is.

SANFL watchers... who's been the better midfielder lately out of Wilson and Hampton?

Wilson by far.

My biggest concern, is we bring this 60m+ kicking player into our side, and yet we won;t even be able to take advantage of it because our forward structure sucks ass and there's not gonna be a single forward inside our 50 for him to kick to.

He's just going to be banging it in to a vacant 50, or down Sicily's throat all night because we will refuse to do anything about it and let Sic do as he pleases.

I think you're right in that Wilson's skills will work better at the higher level - been carrying the SANFL team and played out of position.

I actually think if we are going to persist playing Kelly maybe we should throw him up forward in a lockdown role against Sicily. Body type, speed, size are all quite similar, and its not like Kelly's not used to the assignment, he plays it every week, he has just never done it in the forward line before. Plus he's so out of form as a defender maybe this could be a way to get him back to his best without the added pressure of leaking goals in the backhalf!

And Sicily is bordering on AA for me, so even if we just make his day slightly harder it will be beneficial to the team!

The AFC way. Swing the axe, hit the kids.
No accountability for under performing senior players.
That's bloody funny, made coffee come out of my nose.
It's because the under-performing senior players have figured out ways to duck that axe.
(It's the same problem that my best mate has with his 19 workers --- 3 or 4 of them are excellent and have risen to leadership positions on-site. At the other extreme, 6-8 of them consistently make mistakes, waste time etc but have mastered the Art of doing as little as possible without getting the sack. )

Seems that you've just described pretty much what he's doing in the SANFL now anyway. Please don't be concerned by it, just accept it.

So maybe we keep scrapping to get in and you never know
I've thought a lot about this, too.
The optimist in me wants to believe that with (well, most of) our best players back, we might go on a Bulldogs-like run, but:
--- we'd need to win 7+ out of our last 10 Minor Round games, and
--- Pyke will have to address the disunity within the group (regarding blatant selection-favoritism, salary-favoritism, the Warped Minds debacle and the after-effects from losing the GF last year).
Several of the current group are not playing for each other or for the Club --- they're playing to extend their careers or raise their price on the market.

I always believe that decision making (in most cases, Hampton maybe not) can be improved. Wilson is still a little raw I think. But he has a valuable weapon for an inside midfielder that we are most likely not going to take advantage of because of our poor structures and forward play of late.

At this stage I have no problem giving him a go to see what happens. I struggle to see as a mid how he will improve though with a dramatic increase in speed and pressure at the contest

Given the weather tomorrow night itll be hard to tell. SHould be a big scrap.

I'm not seeing Wilson as an inside midfielder at AFL level, his lack of agility and turning circle of the Queen Mary will see him nailed regularly by any opposition midfield with a defensive mindset. His skill set would be better served on the wing or coming off the back of the centre square, he's a dead set straight line runner.

Out:
Sloane
Crouch
Smith
McGovern
Laird
Lynch
Knight
Brown

Massively underdone/playing injured:
Crouch
Walker
Jacobs

Off field:
Chapman - Still Chairman ( genuinely believes we only use 5% of our brains)
Burton - Still Head of Football (introduces CM shitshow)
Hass - Still High Performance Manager (see injuries)
Continually give gold pass to under performing senior players, while dropping youngsters without a seconds thought
Plus too many more too list

Gee whiz it's hard to be optimistic atm, and I'll be shocked if we get within 10 goals...

Can't see us getting a win here. Probably lose by 40+.

Best case scenario I can envisage is we somehow snag the lead in the final quarter, the crowd start making some noise, the Hawks decide to lift for Burgoyne's 350th, we then start chasing tails helplessly for the rest of the quarter not able to get our hands on the ball and end up losing again.

I dunno, it was only a few weeks ago that Hawthorn got humiliated by Brisbane, they aren't going well really.

Neither are we I know, but weather will help us IMO and we have made decent changes, if not enough.

So has Carlton. Fagan and Bolton probably understand Hawthorn a little better than most

Firstly, I must congratulate you for reaching 50 posts without mentioning Scott Thompson.

Secondly, please provide a list of all the supercoaches over the last 30 years that have maintained winning form with between 5 and 7 of their best dozen players missing.

The selections reflect a mindset of choosing the best available players amongst the 34 available players. From the 12 players named in the Twos
Keath missed the first half of the season and is still struggling in the SANFL.
McPherson has played one SANFL game this year. All our other backmen in the Twos are top-up players.
ROB is struggling with a busted shoulder.
CEY looks cooked.
Edwards and Jarman would struggle to get a game at many SANFL clubs.
Himmelberg, Davis and Signorello have yet to play three good games in a row.

We have omitted Murphy and Fogarty because we are reluctant to play too many KIDS coming off a six day break. If they were injured you would be the first to complain.

The only true contender is Hampton. Now I would have played him in front of Mackay, Kelly or Atkins just to make a statement but do you think that Curtly is the key to a win on Saturday?

IMHO, our selectors still believe in miracles and have selected the best available team. I think we have zero chance and I would prefer to make a statement this week.

Yeah I agree, if they are protecting Murphy and Fogarty, they really didn't have too many options. Injuries are a big part of our problem.

Hawthorn made sure to shut Sicily down. I highly doubt we'll do that because then we'd have to deviate from the way we want to play.

Sam Jacobs? Why? At what point will he be dropped or is there no stage he will be dropped regardless how badly he plays? If he will never be dropped we have reached a new low. Otten? Why as well? Hawks by 60 plus. Don, drop the spin and start getting ****ing real. It's starting to wear thin.

I’m more interested and excited about after bye changes. Could see
In- Sloane, Lynch, Laird, Brown
Out - Gibson, Kelly, Mackay, Atkins
And Sanfl
In - Knight, Gibson, Mackay, Kelly. Atkins. Dear
Out- 6 top ups leaving 18 listed

Wowsers....there’s more spuds in this team than you’ll find at the Smiths factory.

Cheney is a recycled wanna be
Otten I like....but his best is behind him
Jacobs is totally cooked and is way past being a useful ruckman
Atkins is the weakest, softest player to ever pull on a footy jumper
Hartigan panics like a 4 year old on a rollercoaster when under pressure
Kelly is playing sore and gone backwards
Mackay is Mackay....most useless 200 game player in the history of AFL
Jenkins is stone cold lazy....can’t take a contested mark to save himself.

Why after so many poor performances are some of the above getting games ????

Anyone who thinks we will get within 10 goals of the Hawkes is totally INSANE

This team is a complete mess....all but the Brisbane and Carlton games now are almost certain losses.
Zero spirit......zero accountability....zero loyalty.....and the worst managed club in the AFL.

The sooner all concerned accept this....the sooner we can move on....assuming Burton, Hass, Hart, Roo and co are willing to go ???

Otherwise we do it all again next year ....and the next....and the next.......
