Freo would want an actual pick - not equivalent points value, we wouldn’t get gws 2nd back, & no to fasolo.

Two picks (2nd rounders in a great draft) with the collective value of a first rounder (in a great draft) is still a "pick". I'm not making assumptions on Freo's behalf. They may have their eyes on a couple of WA boys in the low 20s range. Who knows? Look at Essendon's trading last year in terms of what they gave for players that had a first value put on their head.

Fasolo - fair enough. I'm 50-50 on it too.

Yes. That's why I think it will all get too hard and ultimately not worthwhile.

I'd be disappointed should we receive a mid-range PP and handed it over cleanly for McGovern. Don't do it SOS :)

If it's 19 I have no doubt SOS will get something like a 3rd rounder back and pick a very good player. I'm not concerned at all

loving the rumours, but would love to hear us linked with some small/medium forwards...huge area of need right behind midfield.

Wright, Pickett, garlett, polson, lebois doesn't even come close to being acceptable.

Someone like melksham who only cost melbourne mid second rounder and kicked 4 goals on the weekend.
I’d love us to target Dahlhaus for one of those roles. Play him as a permanent HFF.

Shai Bolton?

Oooh, Essendon not offering Goddard a new contract...

Not as a free agent next season. A first round draft pick in a strong side to a bottom team is worth a lot more spent of elite talented youth than it is for having a good player for one season. If we were challenging next year then yes, but we aren't. Shiel is a very good player but he's not top tier, he'll be a good contributor but won't be turning games on their heads.

If we send pick/s their way then something else needs to be involved. Perhaps one of their future picks, something like that.

Using an early pick on a player now is the kind of impatient move that down the track you look back at when you've lost a premiership and sight that for the reason.

I think that either way Shiel plays with Carlton in 2020, let's not wast a top pick. Premierships are won by having as many elite talented players as you can get, not by individuals. We're playing a numbers game and getting the numbers of elite talent up is more important than this.
Agreed.
Next year we will most likely have a top 5 pick.
Next year there will be another gun mid.

We will be kicking ourselves if we trade it for a player that probably only has 5 years of top footy left.

Goddard will be at the suns next year most likely, management approached carlton but we were never interested

Thanks for the info! Unrelated, but do you have any mail on whether or not we are interested in getting Dahlhaus?

End of first round priority pick would be pick 21 after Gaff and Lynch free agency compo, I wish I shared your optimism that not only would that be enough for a contracted McGovern but we would get something back as well. I have a very strong doubt about that which you have no doubt will eventuate and I am concerned.

If Cerra is on the table this year, i expect thats where either our mid 2018 pp or our 2019 1st will go. Feel SOS will want a group of kids relatively the same age to grow together. Add Walsh to the mix and we now have:
Dow
Cerra
Walsh
SPS
LOB
Fisher

All extremely close in age.

There's a part of me that is wondering if SPS wants to get back to WA. Definitely dont want to lose him, but can't shake this feeling.
Where is this feeling coming from?

By all accounts, SPS has bought in to the Club, the Melbourne lifestyle, signed-on for another 3 years, etc.

You're being paranoid

I think that's about the right price for McLovin (the likely PP). But with the past few years' trading shenanigans with Adelaide I am sure both list mgrs will want it to look like they won, so will add a complicated swap of later picks to justify their pay. :)
