The Footy Show's 2019 format revealed (and other Nine AFL stuff)

The Footy Show was absolute must see for the first 10 years or so. Back in the day before internet made the teams available so quickly, used to either watch it at the club after training or head home ASAP to watch it for the ins and outs, the gossip, the by-play between Eddie, Sam, Trevor, Doug Hawkins etc. Over the years, it lost its edge with a combination of factors and was never really the same after the early 2000's, but still blazed a pretty fair trail that many imitated but failed (Who could forget "Live And Kicking", for one).

Oddly, it was Before The Game which went past it, despite being in the middle of the round, for comic relief.

Tonight was good nostalgia, though and a great reminder of what made the show both great at its peak and so disappointing when it went down the other side of the slope.

Great post.

It was good as a once off special, but * it was dragging by the end.
I don't remember Bec looking so good, motherhood clearly agrees with her

There was but there were also no tables on the ground level so that evened it out somewhat.
However I’m still surprised they couldn’t sell enough tickets even with extra spots, since it used to sell so fast.
I think the lack of plugging it hasn't helped.

I'd love to know what happened to the person who fa'rked that up.
And if the joke was trying to link a dodgy terrine with a tangerine dream, that was lame :D

well only two of them came out, not the whole lot. So who the hell knows what happened there. Was pretty funny.

As for the show- i had it on, but was doing other stuff during eg. reading a mag/posting on BF... it was a nice enough trip down memory lane, but really they could have done it a whole lot better and had better writers on it. Anyway, dm- nice to see all the faces, shame Garry and James couldnt be there, would have been the cherry on top if they had.

Was looking forward to a bit of a reunion style effort, bit of old banter type of stuff. Turn it on, there's Sticks, ok that's odd but I'll let it slide, then out comes Maddern, immediate dampener on what's to come, only to have her awkwardly not talk and hold up silly signs. Gee could the start get any worse, well yes, Sheedy comes out after a few wines with Mrs Hafey and is just weird, stop touching her and being awkward. Poor old Ed had his work cutout and the shows only 5 minutes old. Then they go to Docklands and there's Billy, who I like, with some reporter for no real reason then to get his mug on tv. Lasted one or two ad break and called it a night.

Agree it needed Gaz & JB
Pretty poor if Fox & 7 didn’t release them for a guest spot
