It's very much the Hawthorn way. Reminds me of Man U under Ferguson. Everything happening behind closed doors, the transfer window opens, and bang, bang, bang.

Expect the disappointment at the way the whole Coniglio thing went down will have steeled our recruiters....

I think we are going to be let down and will only get a bunch or B grade players. no elite players

We haven’t traded for an elite player in decades. Just because we end up with elite players doesn’t mean they were elite when they came to us - they’ve all been damaged in some way and we’ve rebuilt them and their careers.

Burgoyne, Mitchell and Wingard were all elite players when they came to us. McEvoy was a highly regarded ruckman. Yes we find some great rough diamonds - but stop pretending we haven’t brought in talent that was already pretty damn good.

Burgoyne was widely considered a risk because of his knee. While he had been elite no one thought he would reach his previous level.

Wingard had stalled and while he’s shown glimpses since his AA season hasn’t come on as expected.

Mitchell wasnt Swans best 22. Potential was there for sure but he was hardly even in the top 20 mids in the comp

There is no way McEvoy was elite - he still isn’t. He’s a great role ruckman and would have been top 5 ruck in the comp in 2019 but he was barely in our side that first year.

maybe ditch the angry pills next time?
Dude, Mitchell nearly won them a GF. He was not best 22 in 2014, he was in 2015 and 2016.

Trade. Future 3rd or 4th I'm hearing.
Mean’s we can’t trade a Future 1st in the same period though, doesn’t it?

Or can we do it so long as we bring back a Future 3rd/4th to match the one that goes out?

Spot on.

And to say Burgoyne wasn’t elite is silly. Same with Wingard. Stalled - he killed it as a midfielder the year we got him.

Spida Everett was pretty handy. Joel Smith did OK.

You know that the internet has a wide array of resources available to cross check what you post before posting made up crap - right?

Firstly - I never said McEvoy was elite. I said he was a well regarded ruckman. We paid a decent trade price to get him in - so he wasn’t exactly a plodder was he?

Wingard is a multiple AA player. That he had a slightly down year in 2018 doesn’t stop him being elite. Once again - check the price we paid for him at the trade table.

Mitchell wasn’t a fringe player at the Swans in 2015-16 and people repeating this furphy doesn’t make it any more true. He played 19 games in 2015 and 26 games in 2016. He averaged 27 and 28 touches in those two years. He had played a cracking finals series in 2016 including a brilliant grand final performance where he and Kennedy almost got Sydney across the line. For some strange reason Mitchell wasn’t as favoured by Horse and the Swans list management team - but we still had to pay our first rounder to get him. Yes, Mitchell has gone to another level at Hawthorn but let’s not pretend he was playing NEAFL his entire Swans run.

Burgoyne’s risk is irrelevant. Again he was an elite talent. So elite that both Port and Hawthorn felt he was worth a fairly high price. It wasn’t as if we got him for a fourth rounder like Tom Scully. Obviously our club knew we could get Burgers back to his best - so your claims that ‘no one’ thought he would get back to his best are utter s**t. Stop treating bigfooty ramblings as gospel.

To say that Wingard, Mitchell and Burgoyne weren’t elite talents when they came to us defies logic and also ignores the price we paid for them. We are good at finding talent, we are good at developing talent, we are good at improving even great players. These are all things to be proud of this great club - but let’s not pretend that Wingard, Mitchell and Burgoyne were some unknown suburban players when they came to us - it’s just nonsense.

It’s the player managers that leak the most. We don’t have much control over them.

Possibly but usually only with specific agenda's relating to their clients interests - whereas I can assure you some board members at various clubs leak like sieves!
For one thing board members are not club 'employees' so they are not under restrictions imposed by contractual NDA's. Also, it's no secret a few well established Journo's (C.Wilson etc.) do a lot of leg work to get as many as possible on speed dial...

Mate it's debatable as to if Mitchell was elite when he came to us, probably a level or so below elite but don't post crap like saying he wasn't best 22 without doing your research, that was like 2 seasons prior he was in and out of the 22.

No disrespect intended, but you could cut and paste this for 17 other teams. 🤷‍♂️

Regarding Patton he has worked hard in the USA and also stripped off some weight.
He was described to me as being mentally fragile about his knees and his confidence shot until Hawthorn came knocking.
He’s going to play on a very reduced wage which says a lot about how he sees himself as a player now and being realistic.
He is making sure everyone’s investments are covered and from my understanding is really excited to be at Hawthorn.
Will announce after the finals are done in trade week.
While a lot of people are excited about Patton he’s no certainty of being able to play at s high level again given his injury history. There’s a reason we are getting him for not much. Worth a punt - buts it’s a punt.
