News Conor McKenna tests positive for COVID-19 - Wait, what?

I just don't get it.

People were told they couldn't visit a dying relative in ICU because of the risk of transmission. But somehow the Bombers are magical unicorns and they can lick balls, spit, go to the gym and tackle each other, but as long as they spend no more than 15 minutes at a time doing so, they are immune?

It's a wonder this Covid thing ever made it out of the wet market eh? All those people must have spent 15 minutes or more pashing a bat for this thing to even get going!

If another Essendon player test positive next week or the week after, or a Carlton player does, how much do you think they could sue for?

What?

The players won't be able to visit anyone in ICU. You comparing apples with oranges.

Do you want the game to be played or not?

Yet the AFL has changed its tackling rules at training based on this positive result but players this player tackled are A-OK to play [emoji848]

Like the government, their rules make no sense

One tackle outdoors does not warrant quarantine, that’s what the DHS is saying. If it did you would have to start quarantining players from previous weekend games

Today - AFL to players 'please sign this new waiver'

I dont give a shit about the AFL - its the government and their bullshit reasoning's on rules etc. Its just consistently inconsistent and they wonder why people dont follow the rules. Actually the AFL does shit me - dont hi-5 - fistbump, dont sing the song together - but tackle each other

How can he literally spit on his hands and snot on the ground and they say 1 player is in danger?

No way I would play them if I was Carlton.
Yes, how dare qualified people in their role at DHHS have more idea than random blokes with no qualifications on BF 🙄

Depends on the agreements they strike regarding risk. It's the old story of perceived pressure.
If players agree, even verbally, that the rules being applied to them, which are different from everyone else in society, are fine and acceptable, and the government authorities support it, than it's difficult to make a case you weren't aware, informed and accepting of the risk.
Difficult, but not impossible!

So the protest in Melbourne caused a spike in cases in Victoria but the protests in other capital cities didn't cause a spike in their states cases.

Strange. Almost like the spike in Victoria was caused by something else.

The protest is a super convenient 'out' for those who were against the protests in the first place

Supermarkets have been packed for flipping weeks

Not suprised that Moreland is one of the 'hotspots' - I even made a post weeks and weeks ago about how the Coburg mall area of Sydney Rd was chockas with Old Mates and Nonnas even during the peak lockdown - I drive trams down Sydney Rd & Lygon St - Lygon St was deserted, yet Sydney Rd was basically the opposite

It just means they all took the same risk of having players from the same line in the same groups.
Pretty sure you lot would be singing a different tune if all of McKenna's group were wiped out for 2 weeks but the rest of the team still had to play missing your first choice defense.

Meanwhile other clubs actively decided to heed the advice given and reduce that risk.

One other player effected suggests whatever protocol they decided to follow, it worked exceedingly well.

Nah it’s pretty easy actually. How can the govt help ****wits who go and get tested and then walk off into shopping centres? Do these people think “oh well if Adam Saad can tackle...” . Of course not, you’re an adult it’s not that hard to follow basic rules.

On another thread people like me said when they opened these testing facilities that the government were idiots to have testing at shopping centres because you cant help stupid. Of course they were going to go shopping - most of them who got tested would be nuffies.

Intubation drastically increases the chance of transmission

By having a consistent set of rules and restrictions that apply to everyone and not just everyone except footballers?

These are probably the same people who are feeding Dan his daily script about not hugging friends and family, yet they have just adjudicated that an infected player hugging a team mate is not considered a close contact. It's great that Essendon can field a full team but surely you can understand why people are a little baffled by this.

Car parking areas are best place to test, that’s why footballers go to Marvel. A lot of cities have done same thing

Oh so Saad tackle someone so gee that means I have symptoms I’ll get tested...hey I’ll pop in and do some shopping. Is that your thinking? How ridiculous

So apparently training with an affected player from the state with 5/6ths of current Covid cases (the entire Essendon squad) is less of an issue than a socially distanced interview with a TV reporter on your front verandah from the state without a case in 4 weeks (Ollie Wines 1 match suspension).

I wonder what the difference is.

Of course not you hysterical fool.

My thinking is if the DHHS allow someone spray snot everywhere, hug and tackle his co-workers for 14 minutes at a time, then what harm is there going over to my mate's house for a few hours with some friends?
