Injuries have stopped us from challenging this year, would have probably snuck into the 8

but now we can bottom out in a shortened season which will help our list long term

If anything that says alot about where the list is at and the fragile structure of the side.

I love a player that can basically win a game off his own boot or be the barometer for the side (ala Goldy/Cunners) but that becomes a liability, part of why the 90s team is so great is because Carey wasn't the end all be all, but he certainly turned a maybe game into a sure thing.

Interesting who will Daw come in for? Tarrant, McKay, Walker and Daw all in the backline? Maybe Walker will start forward, wouldn't think they would drop McKay

I wouldn't be surprised if either Taz or BBB get rested as part of a rotation system for the upcoming 5 and 4 day breaks. I think teams will start to make big changes, which works for us, if we want to give our second stringers an opportunity to fight for a contract. Taz has been playing a bit sore, so I could see him rested. With 3 games between August 1 and 9, I'll put my money on Taz and Walker getting rested for a game here or there with Maj and Durds stepping in to the back 6.

As Gold Coast has shown there are considerable rewards for being worse than mediocre. They probably now have the most exciting young list in the competition. The AFL has helped them out by overreacting and handing them the number 2 pick last year. We have been honest middle of the pack toilers and have had only two or three top ten picks in ten years.
We overestimated our list and where we were coming out of the two preliminary finals and topped up at the wrong time. Hawthorn and Clarko have made the same mistake over the past few years. This is the fifth year since their last flag and they are probably further away from their next flag than they have been since Clarko got there.

We got enough of a handout when they gave us Thomas for a couple of second round picks. It is on us to start turning some of these talented kids into footballers and getting the team to play a consistent winning brand of football, AFL House isn't going to do that. We have the talent to do better than we have been.
